Green comeback - anyone else heard rumours .

Post by amwsnw »

Few rumours floating around that Danny is on the comeback trail. Let's not turn this into a green Mundine thread please. Just curious if anyone else has heard this recently. The rumours seem to be gaining momentum

Even if he does he does Danny Greeny won't fight anyone credible. It would just be a circus for his bogan league fans who will lap it up.

Yep a circus about sums it up, the guys 42yrs old and wasn't that good to start with, who's he gonna fight and at what weight?

If he steps it up with someone credible at cruiser he'll get brutally stopped.

Before Brian Minto was Announced into the Super 8 like ages ago Danny Green and Minto had a conversation on twitter and there was a mutual agreement that the idea of these two having a fight would be great

There were rumours floating around 6 months ago. But nothing since. I don't expect we'll see Green in the ring again.

Spot on as usual Kel. :TU:

Danny Greeny doesn't have 1 win a cruiser legitimately. The 2 times he fought legit cruisers at 200 lbs (Wlod and Tarver) he got brutally ktfo. His only wins at cruiser have ???? over them due to fighting guys from lower weight divisions at cruiser or catchweights.

Didn't the Fist magazine rate him as the best or second best cruiser at the time ? How was that possible ? I would love to hear the editors reasoning for that at the time.

so most haven't heard anything, just want to get on here and bag Greeny. Im not going to argue the point rgarding what weight he fought at etc, buut what I will say is he had the balls to step into the ring with Tarver and Wlod and challenge himself. Personally i think he could have had a very successful career at light heavy, which is what I believed he may have been looking at coming back to. Be interesting if Sakio can cause an upset in Canada in the coming weeks.

I've heard that team Green have made Glen Kelly an offer for a fight at 187 pounds.

This was in today's Courier Mail:
AUSTRALIA’S world-rated cruiserweight Anthony “Bull” McCracken will need all his aggression and toughness to hold off Samoan slugger Vaitele Soi in Christchurch on Saturday night.

That’s the opinion of former world champ Danny Green, who estimates he sparred more 40 rounds with the Wagga Wagga meatworker in preparation for major fights with Manny Siaca and B.J.Flores.
The second sentence is the one of importance: Green is training for something, but a bout with Manny Siaca is more than a bit of a joke as Manny was pretty much shot in his last fight downunder.

Green sparred McCracken in preparation for his Manny Siaca fight in early 2010 and B.J. Flores fight in late 2010.

Beltane you need to have another look at what you said in context to the courier mail article..... it doesn't suggest Green is sparring now!

Mate I don't think anyone on here is bagging Danny Greeny at all but just being honest about what he actually did at cruiser. For the most part his career at cruiser was purely smoke and mirrors and if you are honest about it as a boxing fan you would admit this. The IBO gave him the belt by beating a guy called Dominguez (who?) for the vacant belt. He does not have one top level win at cruiser. That is FACT. It's not bashing the bloke, it is FACT.

you sure they didn't say 'australian' cruisers?

Now that would be fun to watch for Jones JR to redeem himself.

There were rumours floating around 6 months ago about a possible Green vs Caparello fight. But absolutely nothing since. I don't expect we'll see Green in the ring again at 42 and after having already not fought for two and a half years.

He's doing OK with his TDG fitness and occasional occasional commentating gigs doubt he will be back(except for Mundine fight which is highly unlikely). According to some he owns half of Perth but who knows with Danny Green.

It's fair to assume he's not struggling for a dollar and I agree with you outside of perhaps huge money to fight Mundine he is finished in the ring.
