What's going on with Kid Galahad?

Post by Horse »

He hasn't fought in over 6 months now, with nothing scheduled.

Is he injured?

His career has stagnated, he needs to get a move on.

No he's not injured.
Just completed a great training camp in the Canaries with Kell.

Yeah but with no fight scheduled there seems little point. Mick needs to step up or watch him go the same way as Froch, Degalae and murray

I'm excited about Galahad too & he's just too inactive at the moment.

There's potential great domestic matchups out there for him.

I fully expect him to make a Matchroom/Queensbury move.

What is his support like? Is he a good ticket seller?

What does that mean?

He wouldn't have been a sparring partner for Brook, so what would be the point of completing a camp if there isn't a fight lined up at the end of it ?

At most it would have been a ticking over keeping fit job, not to be confused with a "great camp" that would have a specific purpose so why try to out a different spin on it?

No spin just simple facts.
The training camp wasn't just about Kell - several of the lads were there.
So are you saying fighters shouldn't keep sharp and bang on the money because there isn't a fight slated ?
I'm sure his team will be announcing something soon.

I like the guy a great deal.....he came through a good/live test against Dickens who ain't too bad himself and is likely to come again.

I also saw him fight Prado on Channel 5 as well, Prado's strictly European-level but a proper little hard case who'll keep on coming, a bit like Kiko Martinez but without the serious pop on his punches. But Galahad just did what he pleased and was very calm and composed. A nice night's work and with plenty left to spare.

Frampton would be the wrong choice for KG any time soon....so hopefully some sense will prevail and he ticks over and goes for a title in 18 months time. If Frampton is still there...it could be a good one.

Wouldn't mind seeing Lenny Daws fight soon, as well.

So, what are the facts, what is a "great camp" for a boxer that doesn't have a fight lined up ?

For somebody boxing at his level and frequency my own personal opinion is that it is preferable to keep ticking over and at a decent walking around weight (like Froch) although others have had a different approach and been successful (like Hatton).

Unless he is hoping for a last-minute job, then I would say that boxers should not be "bang on the money" (if I interpret your phrase correctly).

Your last quote (as usual) infers that you know something without actually saying anything - I am not sure what value these comments add ?

Ps - being in the know myself, I am sure that Louis Van Gaal will be making a statement about Manchester United soon (keep it under your hat though - you didn't hear anything from me remember ....)

Well everyone has an opinion mate.
I watched them train in Fuerte Ventura no mystery.
I have no connection with Barry whatsoever indeed not with anyone at the gym other than as a fan.
If you've taken my previous comments as in the know then you're wrong.
I prefer to see fighters work hard and to be ready whatever the notice - you prefer them to just tick over.
Depends on the individual.

Parsons may not be professionally involved with Galahad, but he is definitely more in the know than nearly all on here when it comes to South Yorkshire boxers!

I think, FWIW, that galahad would actually give Frampton more problems than quigg would. Standing off and posing him some questions, setting traps etc, not trying to force the fight as quigg would have to vs Frampton which would play into carls hands.

Style wise yes, but on the other hand, Quigg seems to have the power to gain Framptons respect at least, not sure Kid does.

I think that sums it up bang on.
If Quiggs power and Barrys skills were combined you'd have the fighter to beat Frampton.

I'm not too sure what's going on with The Kid, but I think that he would be doing well to clock up a few Commonwealth title defenses against good opposition. I think that the Super Bantamweight Division picture will be cleaned p over the next 18 months.

you may be right mate

i just think Galahad could be paper to framptons rock, at least for parts of the fight

whereas if quigg is rock, i think Frampton could play the part of either paper, or just a plain ol bigger rock. But if Frampton plays paper, I'm not sure quigg even owns a pair of scissors. Ha.
