Why Roy Jones & Tyson Don't Like Floyd
Why Roy Jones & Tyson Don't Like Floyd
Its alot of speculation as ya'll know that everyone is saying that Tyson & Roy are outright jealous of Floyd. In a way they are but it's for these reasons
I'm willing to bet. Floyds gets paid the highest every cherry picking, he's a major hyprocrite accusing Manny of PEDs when he himself has been busted
several times not to mention he hires Ariza lol, he avoids and bashes Manny for years now all of the sudden he has nothing but nice things to say,
he steals Roy Jones's check hook and lead rights but never gave any credit lol, he retired when peak Miguel Cotto was waiting for him, he avoided
Joel Cassamayor back in the day, he ducked Kosta Tszu, etc... But the main thing is the PED accusations when he has publically been having known
to failed tests that they were able to cover up from the media. Why wouldn't Tyson and Roy pull for Manny? This is the fighter that everytime gives
100% of himself to the fans and pushes the limit everytime out! Why Floyd stinks the joint! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s9Z2WI4kSJo
Forget about Floyd's skills for a second, tell me he isn't the biggest hyprocrite lol. He switches from calling Pac racial names to he's a great fighter lol
He even steals Roy Jones ring apparel style. The shiny, glittery robes and trunks he has taken ALOT from Roy but never gave any credit. Roy Jones
was very classy during his career saying how he idolized Ray Leonard.

Re: Why Roy Jones & Tyson Don't Like Floyd
Hello Mate, I've heard stuff about Floyd falling tests before. Do you have any links to articles that actually have solid info on it?
Cheers

Re: Why Roy Jones & Tyson Don't Like Floyd
There are no links to any solid info.
There was a speculative thing done a while back by Hauser and picked up by Montoya (2 guys notorious for being anything but objective when it comes to Mayweather).
Seems they had some unnamed source in a USADA lab.
Mayweather's lawyers threatened to sue for slander- which could easily have been refuted by the proof this source was said to have.
The articles stopped.

Oddly I've never heard either Jones or Tyson give their reason(s) for disliking Floyd so obviously these are your reasons.bnovelist wrote:Its alot of speculation as ya'll know that everyone is saying that Tyson & Roy are outright jealous of Floyd. In a way they are but it's for these reasons

Re: Why Roy Jones & Tyson Don't Like Floyd
My humble opinion of why Jones and Tyson don't like Floyd is because he has more money and fame than either of them has yet he hasn't lost and he easily surpass both in terms of skills. They (Roy and Mike) were beaten by their best competition in the more important fights (barring Toney and a young Hopkins for Roy) but Mike has never shown he is a world conqueror as he has been lucky enough to have fought an over-the-hill Holmes (best name on his resume) and he lost to all the others like Holyfield, Lewis while ducking Foreman.By Gav Duthie: Everyone has an opinion on why Floyd Mayweather Jr and Manny Pacquiao have not yet fought. It would be ignorant of me to try and convince anyone either way who is to blame as most are on one side or another and that won’t change.
If you blame Mayweather that’s fine, no problem, what I don’t like is the throw away comments about him ducking this or cherry picking that. With the exception of Pacquiao is there anyone else he should have fought in the past but didn’t? I thought I would have a proper look back at his career and assess the situation.
1998
Top 5 P4P
1. Oscar De La Hoya
2. Roy Jones Jnr
3. Evander Holyfield
4. Felix Trinidad
5. Mark Johnson
Floyd Mayweather debuted in 1996 after winning the bronze medal medal in the Atlanta Olympics. I start at 1998 because this was the first year that Mayweather was recognised in the top ten p4p by ring magazine featuring at #8. He achieved this goal when he stopped the normally durable Angel Manfredy in only 2 rounds to win the WBC Super Featherweight title.
2001
Super featherweight 130 lbs
1. Floyd Mayweather Jnr
2. Diego Corrales
3. Jong-kwon Baek
4. Robert Garcia
5. Lakva Sim
6. Yong Soo Choi
7. Jesus Chavez
8. Acelino Freitas
9. Derrick Gainer
10. Goyo Vargas
Mayweather stayed in the Super featherweight division for three years whilst he learned his craft. During this time his biggest fight was undoubtedly against the late giant Diego ‘Chico’ Corrales. Mayweather destroyed him over 10 rounds knocking him down 5 times on route to victory. Of this list he also beat Jesus Chavez and Goyo Vargas, another respectable win he had at 130lbs was against Carlos Hernandez where he controversially suffered the only knockdown of his career after a head butt.
Is there anyone else on this list that was a MUST fight. Not for me. Ironically you have Marcos Maidana’s trainer Robert Garcia in at number 4. Garcia was a decent boxer in his own right but even he would never have claimed to being able to beat Mayweather. Acelino Freitas was fairly dominant for a while after he beat Casamayor in 2002. A fight against Freitas or Casamayor would have been interesting but not box office.
2001 p4p
1. Shane Mosley
2. Bernard Hopkins
3. Jones Jnr
4. Marco Antonio Barrera
5. Floyd Mayweather
After the Corrales win Floyd went into the top 5 pound for pound for the first time and apart from his brief retirement has been there ever since. I remember at the time he was linked to fights against #4 Marco Antonio Barrera and Erik Morales but again they were not avoided as neither mexican fought at 130lbs until 2004.
2002
Lightweight 135 lbs
1. Floyd Mayweather
2. Jose Luis Castillo
3. Stevie Johnston
4. Paul Spadafora
5. Leonard Dorin
6. Juan Lazcano
7. Angel Manfredy
8. Acelino Freitas
9. Artur Grogorian
10. Victoriano Sosa
In 2002 Mayweather moved up to the lightweight division and challenged tough mexican champion Jose Luis Castillo in his first fight. This bout if any is the one fight where I thought Mayweather had lost. Castillo’s size and strength advantages were apparent and he managed to bully Floyd for much of the fight landing some big shots. In fairness to Floyd he could have avoided the rematch after such a tough fight but he gave Castillo the second chance. The next instalment was once again close but “Pretty Boy” Floyd got the nod.
From the Ring Magazine lightweight list of 2002 the obvious name that jumps out is Paul Spadafora. Spaddy was also a lightweight champion when he outpointed Angel Manfredy. He and Floyd were already seen as rivals after Spadafora’s dominant sparring session over him in 1999. Floyd didn’t really hang around at 130 for too long as the Jnr welterweight division was packed with talent and he clearly wanted to be involved in these fights. Floyd started to call out Arturo Gatti after he destroyed dangerous puncher Phillip Ndou.
2004
Light Welterweight
1. Kostya Tszyu IBF
2. Arturo Gatti WBC
3. Vivian Harris WBA
4. Floyd Mayweather
5. Sharmba Mitchell
6. Miguel Cotto WBO
7. Ricky Hatton
8. Zab Judah
9. Lovemore N’dou
10. Jesse James Leija
I feel at this point Floyd was really coming into his stride. The light welterweight division was littered with talent and Floyd pursued many of the big fights. Of this top ten Floyd fought Arturo Gatti, Sharmba Mitchell, Miguel Cotto, Ricky Hatton and Zab Judah. In 2004 Kostya Tszyu was the main man at the weight but a fight between those two would have been on the Russian’s terms and he lost and retired after his fight with Ricky Hatton in 2005 which made the opportunity for this fight limited to a short space of time.
2007
Welterweight 147lbs
1. Floyd Mayweather
2. Miguel Cotto
3. Paul Williams
4. Shane Mosley
5. Antonio Margarito
6. Zab Judah
7. Kermot Cintron
8. Luis Collazo
9. Joshua Clottey
10. Oktay Urkal
After Zab Judah’s stunning knockout victory in a rematch against Cory Spinks there was a big call for a fight between him and Floyd Mayweather. Unfortunately a certain Carlos Baldomir hadn’t read the script and beat Judah in what was considered no more than a warm up fight. Floyd did the only thing he could do in my opinion which was to keep his obligation to fight Judah and then fight Carlos Baldomir. There were probably a few other fights at 147 he could have taken like Margarito or Paul Williams but he understandably took a bigger challenge in moving up to 154lbs to fight Oscar De La Hoya. Mayweather won a close controversial split decision and then went back down to Welterweight for another career defining fight against Ricky Hatton 43-0. After his tenth round stoppage win he retired and for me there was no real fights that he hadn’t taken at this stage.
2010
Welterweight 147lbs
1. Manny Pacquiao
2. Floyd Mayweather
3. Andre Berto
4. Miguel Cotto
5. Shane Mosley
6. Joshua Clottey
7. Jan Zaveck
8. Vyacheslav Senchenko
9. Rafal Jackiewicz
10. Tim Bradley
During Mayweather’s 2 year hiatus from 2007-2009 the baton was firmly passed on to Pacquaio. He won a second fight with Barrera and a split decision rematch against nemesis Juan Manuel Marquez. In 2008 he bettered both of Mayweather’s performances with an 8 round dismantling of De La Hoya followed by a destructive second round knock out over Ricky Hatton. Mayweather then came back in 09 getting one back after he dominated Marquez over 12 rounds something Pacquiao has never been able to do. Then we all thought that it was primed for the two to meet in the ring. That clearly didn’t happen and as I said before this article isn’t about that its about Mayweather in general and if he ducks big fights.
Again on this list from 2010 some have drifted into obscurity (Zaveck, Jackiewicz) some have went backwards (Berto) and some have improved (Bradley). Again of this list probably Tim Bradley is the only fight that could have happened but we know this was impossible due to Floyd’s relationship with Bob Arum. He followed the Marquez win with Shane Mosley after he had beaten Margarito.
Today
Welterweight 147
1. Floyd Mayweather
2. Manny Pacquiao
3. Tim Bradley
4. Juan Manuel Marquez
5. Marcos Maidana
6. Kell Brook
7. Keith Thurman
8. Shawn Porter
9. Devon Alexander
10. Amir Khan
Light Middleweight 154lbs
1. Floyd Mayweather
2. Saul Alvarez
3. Erislandy Lara
4. Carlos Molina
5. Demetrius Andrade
Floyd has drifted between 147 and 154 over the last few years at a very advanced age to try and get the biggest fights. He beat Ortiz and then Guerrero after wins against Andre Berto and facing Canelo was a big risk considering the size difference.
If you learn anything from these rankings it is that they change so quickly with flash in the pan fighters and overhyped prospects but Mayweather always remains. There is always someone else to fight but not all of them can happen. Some might say Mayweather should fight Keith Thurman next, UK fans might say he should fight Brook or Khan, or maybe Danny Garcia deserves a chance, perhaps he should move up and fight Andrade or Kirkland. There are some that even say he should fight Golovkin but how do we know where these guys will be in another two years and he cannot fight them all. I wasn’t convinced by Maidana as an opponent but his win against Broner put him in that position.
Conclusion
Perhaps Mayweather these days does look at fights with dollar signs first but nobody can truly say he doesn’t still fight quality opponents. Trying to remain as neutral as possible summarizing his career I don’t think he has really ducked anyone. Besides the Pacquiao situation, where I’m not sure who to blame, he has fought at a great level his whole career. Yes there are other fights that perhaps should have happened but did he duck them.
Potential fights
Spadafora (2000)
Freitas (2002)
Tszyu (2004)
Pacquiao (2010)
Bradley (2013)
Still you could go through any fighters resume with a fine tooth comb even Muhammad Ali, Ray Leonard and Ray Robinson and find fights that could have happened but didn’t. If the Pacquiao fight never happens that will always be a blight on his record but as for the rest of it hats off to an amazing career so far.
Both guys think that they deserved more recognition for what they did in the sport but honestly neither of them won against whom it mattered at the time most (Tarver, Holyfield) so with Mayweather seemingly past his own better years yet still performing at a level above everyone in the sport and having never lost sours in their bellies as he is far older and better than either of them at similar stages in their careers past 34 years old.
Add up all that plus the history making PPVs and the brash talk of Floyd calling himself TBE and you can see why both of them are jealous and really have no other reason to dislike Floyd Mayweather.
Jealousy is a powerful emotion, it made Cain kill Abel.

Floyd has wanted this fight for the longest. He was calling out Zu before he was even at 140 pounds. One big reason the fight didn't get made was because of Floyd's contract with HBO and Zoo's contract with Showtime.bnovelist wrote:Its alot of speculation as ya'll know that everyone is saying that Tyson & Roy are outright jealous of Floyd. Floyd fought N'Dou 11-01-2003 (Floyd's last fight at 135)
Kostya fight with Mitchell postponed because of shoulder injury 2-7-2004
Floyd fought Demarcus Corley 05-22-2004 (first fight at 140)
Kostya fought Sharmba Mitchell 11-06-2004 (after postponement from injury)
Kostya loses to Ricky Hatton 06-04-2005 (In mandatory defense. Retires afterward)
Floyd fought Henry Brusseles 01-22-2005 (coming off longest layoff of career at the time)
Now tell me, when would this fight have taken place?

And just who is Tyson to hate someone because of them being a prick? Wasn't he convicted as a Rapist? Didn't he beat his wife (Givens)? When he was younger he used to act all helpful to old women by carrying their groceries then when he got to their houses he would KO them and take all they had.Impractical Poster wrote:Tyson is more famous than Floyd.

Everybody loves Mike. Most people and fighters can't stand Floyd. I highly doubt it's jealousy. I used to be a fan of Floyd's. I'm not any more. Not because of jealousy, but because he's bad for the sport. The dude is as arrogant as they come and is out for himself. No one else. Not the fans, the sport, etc.... Himself. He's a hard dude to like.KBB wrote:And just who is Tyson to hate someone because of them being a prick? Wasn't he convicted as a Rapist? Didn't he beat his wife (Givens)? What does Floyd's behavior outside of the ring have to do with what he does inside of it? How is he bad for the sport if all he does is win once he's in it? What fighter isn't in this sport for himself? The last time I checked they all get a paycheck. When was the last time Floyd has been in some trouble with the law? How long will you hold your grudge(s) against him?Impractical Poster wrote:Everybody loves Mike. Most people and fighters can't stand Floyd. I highly doubt it's jealousy. People act as if Floyd is out starting trouble everyday, as far as Tyson it's just since Mike has left boxing and turned into a sideshow for movies and whatnot that people have begun to embrace him but make no mistake about it, he's still jealous of Floyd. What other reason would he have when he was worse than Mayweather outside of the ring?
It's funny how people stand in judgment of Floyd and pretend their sh*t don't stink, all we ever hear about is the bad that Floyd has done and people replay it daily as though it is continuing and yet we never hear how anyone makes a big deal of the charities he donates to but as Manny throws out a few dollars to the natives of his homeland he is celebrated as caring for the people.

Re: Why Roy Jones & Tyson Don't Like Floyd
Do they dislike him or is this just a figment of people's imagination?
I love watching Floyd box. Regarding his outside the ring self? He seems to lack genuine character and personality and has had to work hard at his image. Fair play to him to have somehow managed to manipulate himself into the kind of mega earner someone with his style never usually achieves. As I say, he has worked hard at it outside the ring as well as inside it.
Someone like Tyson is way more famous and in his pomp, the excitement and hype surrounding him blows anything Floyd ever managed to create out of the water completely. Imagine how much money a prime Tyson would command now if he was fighting? Floyd v Manny would be chief support for a routine Tyson defence vs any current top ten heavyweight! He was a bonafide genuine sporting superstar in his pomp, a once in a generation type.

Re: Why Roy Jones & Tyson Don't Like Floyd
I would guess more people hated Cassius Clay/Mohommad Ali in the 60's and 70's than hate Floyd now. SRL was also one people loved to hate. All had a huge amount of the other type of fans as well, but some think Floyd is mostly hated world-wide.
Tyson and Jones have a definite Jealousy factor. They like most fans have been frustrated with Floyd vs Manny happening, and since Floyd somehow gets most of the blame, he is the most hated because it didn't happen. They were on the top but were not able to stay there like Floyd has, or make the kind of money he has.

Ali was a douche too. The reason he got more hate world wide is because he was much more well known world wide.

I still think Pac may have accepted a Haymon bribe to take it easy on Floyd so that they can have a trilogy. As still dangerous as Manny is nobody
believes that he wasn't offered anything lol that's funny.

Back to the subject though, at least Ali praised Jack Johnson and Ray Robinson...Floyd doesn't do that. What about Omar Henry's family putting up
that donation site to help bury Omar? But when Frazier passed Floyd publically offered to pay for the funeral of Frazier covering the expenses which
would have been publicity for Floyd.

Re: Why Roy Jones & Tyson Don't Like Floyd
Ok so let me get this straight, you're upset that Floyd didn't pay for this one person's funeral when he has paid for others? Is it Mayweather's responsibility to pay for everyone's funeral? He didn't look for publicity in paying for Earl or Hernandez's funeral. Floyd praised Gatti after the fight, he praised Hatton, he praised Canelo, he praised every fighter he's ever faced after the fight, and now we have you here saying he doesn't do that. I challenge you to go and look at Mayweather fights and see the action going on in the ring after the fight is over, you will find Floyd saying good things to his opponents.bnovelist wrote:Back to the subject though, at least Ali praised Jack Johnson and Ray Robinson...Floyd doesn't do that. Well Omar Henry was his chief sparring partner for Cotto which he was paid 50million plus a percentage of PPV. So spending 10k to bury a guy
who helped you get ready for one of the biggest challenges of your career is the RIGHT thing to do. Show some character! He's never spent literally
a DAY with Frazier but out of the blue wants to cover his funeral expenses? Are you serious? Attention whore!!! Of course Floyd was praise Cotto,
and Hatton past guys that he's faced it elevates his achievments. Don't be stupid...Early in Floyd's career you could see Roy's charisma and style all
over his persona not to the extent of Adrien Broner not even close, but still you could clearly see that he looked up to Roy. Those lead right hands
were seen by Roy firsthand...those quick agile lead rights. Hopkins, Mayweather, Ward, and Rigo in a way stole Roy's AGILE lead rights. Roy was
the first I've seen implement this tactic. All I am saying is that Roy knows alot of his style was used by Floyd but doesn't get any respect. None....
In fact, to me from what I have seen...Floyd OWES Roy Jones Jr a Rolls Royce, Range Rover 2015, or Porsche
Roy's charisma and long championship reign inspired a young Mayweather. If there were no Roy Jones, we would've have NEVER seen Floyd's
lead rights and super athletic agility that he's gotten from watching Roy as a youth. Whatever. If I were Floyd with all the big paydays I would have
no problem sending Roy a car or some type of expensive watch to show my appreciation. You know that's just me!!!!!! That's like Broner going on
to be the highest paid 10yrs later but doesn't acknowledge Mayweather lol. Broner making 50 million plus paydays Floyd who??????

to be the highest paid 10yrs later but doesn't acknowledge Mayweather lol. Broner making 50 million plus paydays Floyd who??????
Re: Why Roy Jones & Tyson Don't Like Floyd
Watching someone's tapes is nowhere as important as natural talend and thousands hours of hard work in the gym, otherwise my grandpa would be HW champion. And even if it had some influence, he already payed for watching RJJ... I guess he did not get free tickets/PPV.bnovelist wrote:If there were no Roy Jones, we would've have NEVER seen Floyd's lead rights and super athletic agility that he's gotten from watching Roy as a youth.

Joel Cassamayor back in the day, he ducked Kosta Tszu, etc.
Dutch Sam is credited with creating the uppercut/undercut but you don't hear people come out and give him credit everytime they throw an uppercut, so that point is just ridiculous.
I Can remeber seeing Floyd call out Kosta on at least 2 occassions, so again that argument is invalid!
And the ring attire? Seriously? Do you want to Floyd to thank Roy for leading the way with ring attire? Catch yourself on!!

Re: Why Roy Jones & Tyson Don't Like Floyd
others may be Jealous of the amount of $$$ Floyd is making this late in his career. from what I understand he has kept a good portion of those $$$, which is very uncommon in boxing
Re: Why Roy Jones & Tyson Don't Like Floyd
No he isn't a funny dude, he's just a Simpleton and a Moron. Anyone who suggests that a natural born boxer stole his straight right from another boxer is a total dumb ass.fergusg wrote:You're a very funny dude!bnovelist wrote:Its alot of speculation as ya'll know that everyone is saying that Tyson & Roy are outright jealous of Floyd.
