*spoiler* Pointless "international" titles
*spoiler* Pointless "international" titles
So Sergei Khomitsky has won a title with a great KO. Will he ever defend it? I doubt it. Which begs the open question- is there really any point in international "titles" other than to give hometown favourites something "meaninful" to fight for.

It helps with world rankings.whicker wrote:So Sergei Khomitsky has won a title with a great KO. Will he ever defend it? I doubt it. Which begs the open question- is there really any point in international "titles" other than to give hometown favourites something "meaninful" to fight for.

I know it's not an "international" per se but the IBF Asia title's really get some guys undeserved rankings. Takayuki Hosokawa and Mike Tawatchai for example...
The internationals do the same thing but they aren't usually that blatantly out of whack

Current WBO International champions (as per the most recent rankings dated March 14th)-
Vargas (#1 @130),
Pagara (#6 @140),
Rios (#3 @147),
Spyrko (#3 @154),
Saunders (#1 @160),
Krasniqi (#1 @175),
Bellew (#2 @ Cruiser)
and Fury (#1 @HW)
O_O
The IBF make it harder to work out, but the WBO list theirs in their world rankings.

IBF-
Villanueva (#3 @ 115),
Ambunda (#10 or #11 @ 122),
Coyle (#13 @ 135),
Van Heerden (#13 @147),
Moncelli (Unranked @ 154)
Etches (#10 @160)*,
Zeuge (Unranked @ 168),
Kurzawa (unranked @ Cruiserweight),
Szpilka (#10 @ HW)
The IBF rankings at 122lbs are weird on their site, and Etches has obviously just lost his title
