Rubbish card tonight from Matchroom
Tonight was just to sell Kell Brook. Complete mismatch. How they sold out that arena I don't know! Watching amature boxing is better and more competitive

Re: Rubbish card tonight from Matchroom
I think it was a pretty shit card. It was one of them you'd happily fast forward to the main event which was a mismatch in itself. Pretty poor stuff.

Re: Rubbish card tonight from Matchroom
Last couple of cards have been disappointing and it doesn't appear Newcastle will change the recent fare.
I noted last night Sky only listed Joshua v Gavern and it appears the Canadian show is being shown too but they are 5hrs behind so unless there going live in the afternoon this must be have a separate early morning slot on Sky.
The "big arena" shows aren't always doing it for me. You cant complain at a World or Euro title fight, even if the opposition does appear below par, but the undercards which are filling 1-2 hrs have been very disappointing recently.
Hopefully Leeds could deliver 3 even "ish" title contests, and I suppose we should be grateful that we have 3 consecutive weeks of Saturday night Sky Boxing. (A first this year I think?)

Thing is Stevenson Bika is an awful fighit, at least the WBC have mandated him v Kovalevmaninthemiddle wrote:Last couple of cards have been disappointing and it doesn't appear Newcastle will change the recent fare.

Re: Rubbish card tonight from Matchroom
The Canadian show is an afternoon show so it will be on at a decent time.I was in the arena last night snd felt it was a decent show but was missing a competitive all British fight. The undercard was at a similar level then the Frampton card maybe this one was slightly better but there is not much in it.The quality might be lacking but if you count the international cards it will of been 6 weeks of boxing in a row up to the 11th of April which is more boxing content on sky then usual but then agan after that there could be a big gap between shows if you take ppv out of the equation.

Re: Rubbish card tonight from Matchroom
The card was crap as are most of matchroom's of late
Re: Rubbish card tonight from Matchroom
Dan was mandatory so that can be excused. Although how he got there is anyones guess. The rest of the card wasnt great but IMO better than some of the recent Matchroom cards. I think I know know not to expect much from them & by that standard last nights card wasnt too bad by their standards.
Re: Rubbish card tonight from Matchroom
Was a sh1te card but i dont care i won 130 on brook 4th round
. I hope sky dont ever show frankie gavin again,he is the most boring boxer to have come out of britain, world number one amateur or not he's the best cure for insomnia by a country mile

Re: Rubbish card tonight from Matchroom
Not even a mention last night about next weeks Commonwealth title fight between Wilson and Nelson but there was for the 8 rounder between Joshua and Tavern which is topping the bill
I know Sky are driving the Anthony Joshua bandwagon but they do themselves no favours by not mentioning a title fight that's on the card
Sky and Matchroon deserve all the stick that comes their way regarding this Saturdays show

Re: Rubbish card tonight from Matchroom
If they mention Wilson and Nelson all the casuals will go 'who?' and decide not to bother watching. The only hope they have of selling the show outside the north east is that Joshua is on the bill, without him the viewing figures would be sub 50,000.handsofstone wrote:Not even a mention last night about next weeks Commonwealth title fight between Wilson and Nelson but there was for the 8 rounder between Joshua and Tavern which is topping the bill

Re: Rubbish card tonight from Matchroom
Etches was a decent enough little fight, the McDonnell Euro title scrap was poor as I felt his opponent was poor and hadn't done much to deserve a Euro shot. Gavin McDonnell is very limited imo. So yeh, overall, poor stuff.
Dan on paper was not a walkover fight, never been KO'd though has been on the floor. Clever matchmaking I suppose.

I agree but they should have advertised both fights, even some of the die hards might not watch if its just Joshua against Gavern over 8expe wrote:If they mention Wilson and Nelson all the casuals will go 'who?' and decide not to bother watching. Granted I might sound biased as Wilson is from Dundee and I never thought I'd see someone from my home city top the bill on TV fighting for a title but I would have the same opinion wherever they were from
Do both guys deserve a shot after only a handful of fights? Probably not, even in the lighter weights but one thing it should be which Joshua-Gavern is not.........a contest

Re: Rubbish card tonight from Matchroom
There's no balance in the matchroom stable. Every fighter gets packed off down the same path fighting for daft belts that get them a ranking and then they get talked up as deserving of their shot at a version of the world title.
I feel like matchroom and sky have completely discredited the Lonsdale belt. Whats wrong with having a few lads who will settle at British or European level (and I mean they will win and lose, not settle for being that level) and have them battling it out on the undercard before Brook or whoever? Fight of the year candidates more often than not are for the British belt or involve two Britain based fighters, yet matchroom seem to think they have a well oiled machine that dhurns out great nights of boxing. Its boring!
I gave up sky sports a few months ago, I haven't missed it an ounce.

Re: Rubbish card tonight from Matchroom
I had it on in the pub. I'm a bit blurry about the main event. I remember it finishing in four, but other than that not much.

Re: Rubbish card tonight from Matchroom
Sheffield card wasn't the best (can't really complain about the Brook fight mandatory etc) but the Leeds, Newcastle and Brum shows look a lot worse.
Depending on whether may 30th is ppv or not it may well show if we want a decent card we will have to expect ppv everytime!! (I noticed Barry Hearn already slipping the Brooks a ppv fighter now in on twitter).
If May 30th goes ppv I'm cancelling my Sky Sports no point paying for shit cards like the ones we've had recently plus Leeds, Newcastle and Brum (which I'm stuipidly going to!! Anyone want a ticket?)

Re: Rubbish card tonight from Matchroom
Thoughts after:
Etches...got caught with a very good punch, I think that will wake him up actually, he knows now that's its not all bang them out in a few rounds, needs to box sometimes, can come again for sure.
MacDonnell...I think he thought it was going to be easier than it was, kept getting caught and as above that could be the shake up he needed despite the win.
Gavin....needs to step up the performances now, all the talk about boxing genius and 'its one for the boxing purists' can take a back seat for me...for the casual fans its just boring to watch, you couldn't hear a thing when he was boxing and that wasn't people concentrating on how good he was, its was just boring.
Brook....dominant against his mandatory and you can't ask anymore than that, no issues with the leg either which is fantastic based on the severity of the injury
Not a great night for the TV viewer, but we move on I guess

It wasn't a sell out. They curtained about a quarter of the arena.Eddy wrote:Tonight was just to sell Kell Brook. Complete mismatch. How they sold out that arena I don't know! Watching amature boxing is better and more competitive
Re: Rubbish card tonight from Matchroom
Some of the arena was curtained off & now Hearn is saying that he is a stadium fighter.
