Re: Khan v Algieri official
Who will he pick after Algieri?
Since he moved up he has now faced 3 chaps who's combined records read a less than 50% knockout ratio. He isn't even trying to cover up the fact he don't fancy risking a fight against anyone who possesses any sort of power.
It's a shame but I think he could well be wasting his time waiting for a fight he isn't ever going to get

Re: Khan v Algieri official
I think you're missing the point. If Khan can stop Algieri he's then 'better' than Provodnikov & Pacquiao.
At least that's the selling point to the casual fan.
As a boxing fan it's not the best bout but from a promotional view it's a brilliant bout. And it's in NYC. Even better.
And no one can doubt Algieri's Bollocks.
Also, Algieri has never lost a fight in the USA
Khan has. Pacquiao has. But Algieri hasn't ![[icon_notworthy.gif]](./images/smilies/icon_notworthy.gif)

Re: Khan v Algieri official
Poor poor fight. We heard murmurs of Cotto, Broner and even Brook. But to fight a guy who was kd 6 times in his last fight Is rather pointless.
He is fighting B level fighters trying to get a fight against the top 2. To be fair to Khan though, he has had a lot of tough fights in the past.

Re: Khan v Algieri official
He'll no doubt fight Broner in December too expecting the Mayweather fight next May. He might just lose his standing if Thurman and Brook keep up the rise.
Re: Khan v Algieri official
I have no interest in this fight, and it will be hard to sell.
Re: Khan v Algieri official
How does Algieri keep getting these fights?
Re: Khan v Algieri official
Would surely make £5m plus a ton of glory vs Brook AND still be in line for Floyd/Manny - perhaps even if he lost.
Horrible fight.

Horrible fight.
Re: Khan v Algieri official
I can understand Khan ducking Brook ................. for now. Boxing is a hard enough game but if you're not 100% on it at the top, top level it can be very, very risky. Khan is desperate, absolutely desperate for a Mayweather / Pacquiao fight. At this stage his heart isn't in a fight with Brook and it's far too big a risk to take when Khan is banking on being the next opponent for the winner of the Mayweather / Pacquiao contest.
The stick he's getting is a bit harsh IMO.

Why can't people understand that Al Haymon calls the shots....there is no point in critisizing Khan for this the same way there was no point in slagging off Danny Garcia for beating up that Salka bum, Quillen for vacating the WBO and passing up A fortune etc
Re: Khan v Algieri official
1 of the most transparent ducks i've ever seen in the sport. Can't blame khan though, he has no chin at all yet is making himself a tidy living. He's a bit of a show pony really with his fast hands and glass jaw, a bit like 1 of those street tricksters who do a lot of keepy-uppies and break dance with a football but would be useless on a football field of 22.

Show pony? Really? ![[icon_witsend.gif] :witzend:](./images/smilies/icon_witsend.gif)

Will they buy that? Do you not think the casual fan has the wit to reason that someone giving a crocodile a kick after a leopard has bitten it and lion has killed it doesn't mean a thing.Taansend wrote:I think you're missing the point. The fans can criticise Khan if they so wish. Yeah he's had some hard fights in the past but he's been treading water against low risk opposition (Alexander a possible exception although still not a noted puncher) and thinks that merits a Floyd or Pacquiao fight? Not a chance! It's the way he goes about his business. Prior to Algieri we heard good guys names being mentioned by Khan himself then we get fed Algieri? Who Khan then tries to tell us is an 'A-class' opponent and 'just came up short' against PAC! Don't pish on our heads and tell us that it's raining Amir!

The Algieri fight is a prep fight, a keep active fight whilst Khan waits for the winner of the Mayweather / Pacquiao fight.
This fight makes perfect sense in that context.
Whether or not that super fight will happen, no-one knows but IMO Khan is right to prepare properly for it in case it does.
Re: Khan v Algieri official
I get it's a prep fight and I get he's treading water because he's obviously worried about facing a puncher because one punch and that's his pay day out the window but his hypocrisy knows no bounds. He slates Brook for his level of opposition (and I agree to an extent) but the fact of the matter is he's been fighting B class fighters since Garcia K'od him and he was fortunate against Diaz. Do you think his level of opponent is enough to merit a super fight? He wants to dictate what Brook does before any fight happens between them but thinks it's ok for him to fight sub-standard opposition then has the brass neck to try and fob Algieri off as A class!Ian1973 wrote:Stuarty30 wrote:The fans can criticise Khan if they so wish. Very disappointing opponent either way, was quite keen on the Broner option.

I do think he is worth of a super fight, yes. Lets not forget Khan has won more world titles than Brook has. To date Brook has beaten Porter, Ok, fine, and that is practically it. Jo Jo Dan is nowhere near good enough. Other than Broner who has Brook beat of any significance? Has be beaten Judah, Collazo, Alexander?
Khan is looking after his own interests, I can't knock him for that.

Sorry mate but his level of opponent since two straight defeats is in no way worthy of a Mayweather type fight! Not even close. Yeah he's won world titles but he's also lost them and at 140. I actually think he's looked a lot better since moving up in his last two fights but if he gets left out in the cold again he only has himself to blame. I used to defend him and be a fan myself but his arrogance and disrespect towards Brook just rubs me up the wrong way. As a fan would you not rather he stepped it up? Forced the issue? Showtime aren't even interested in showing his next fight so the story goes. Says it all.

As a "fan" I'd love him to face Brook, for sure. But boxing is a business, Khan has to do what he see's best for himself. It's about bigger pictures sometimes. It can beat frustrating admittedly but ask yourself, if you were in the same position, what would you do?

I can't honestly answer that bud. I just don't know. Whatever I done I wouldn't be an arrogant prat about it regardless. I just don't like this fight and I don't like the way he goes about his business. He accuses Brook of wanting a pay day against him before he loses his belt while at the same time fighting second rate guys and staying safe so to get a super fight! Doesn't matter what way you look at it it's hypocritical. Good luck to him but there is a massive chance he'll get overlooked again.
Re: Khan v Algieri official
If Khan beats Brook then he'll be the best opponent available for the winner of Mayweather vs Pacquiao if they don't rematch each other.
If he beats Algieri then he's still just another top 10 ranked welterweight and not the obvious next opponent for Mayweather or Pacquiao at all.

Re: Khan v Algieri official
Is he under some sort of obligation? I don't think so. I see no reason, given their ages why a fight with Brook can't still happen at some point provided Brook can avoid keep being stabbed.Bodyshot3 wrote:A raised middle finger for Brook and also thousands of British fight fans as well....cheers Amir, now we know you really dont't care!
I think pethaps Khan is looking to avoid a banana skin in Brook so as to keep those hopes of the big one alive.
If he lost to Brook i could well imagine Mayweather completely dismissing Khan and flying Brook in in his place for about 20% of the wedge.
