Denis Lebedev vs Youri Kalenga

Post by diddy »

Tmrw. Anyone know anything about this guy Lebedev is fighting? Surprised that Lebedev is not a bigger favorite. Is his opponent any good or much of a threat?

He is training in Big Bear now. Unless he really improved, Lebedev should handle him easily. Maybe he has a good chin which would explain the odds.

A good chin ain't getting him a decision in Russia. He will need to have actual skills.

He is just better than any of Lebedev's victims since his questionable loss to Huck. The only top-20 fighter whom Lebedev faced since December 2010 was Guillermo Jones and he knocked Lebedev out.

The reason for the somewhat close odds must be his inactivity + the monumental beating he suffered at the hands of Jones who was his last opponent with any name recognition. That beating looked like a possible career-ender at the time (I know about Jones' failed drug test, but it was a serious beat down nonetheless), so there are still questions about his current form being that he he's fought only 2 rounds in almost 2 years against a relatively unknown guy.
Probably Kalenga will need a KO to win, and that shouldn't be easy, at least if Lebedev can still take what he took against Jones before finally going down. I guess he can't even win on cuts/swelling, seeing as Lebedev was allowed to fight on while looking like the elephant man.
I tend to root for the visitor, especially if the deck seems stacked against him, so... WAR KALENGA

Kalenga is pretty good, a big hitter. Its a very interesting bout. As Russians are taking over from Germans cruiserweight division is little by little coming alive.

Watched Kalenga/Masternak on TV and watched Kalenga/Daley in person; he faded late in the Masternak fight but was successful enough early to carry a decision. Against Daley he stole that man's soul. I don't think Denton will ever amount to anything now. Unholy, life changing kind of beating with a KO that made me think he killed Daley. I've seen another fight of Kalenga's too: UD loss to Arturs Kulikauskis. Anyone who points at this as a failing of Kalenga is a 100% fraud when it comes to fight prognostication. Kalenga beat the man retarded and got robbed in one of the worst decisions I've ever seen. Scratch that- it was the worst decision I've ever seen. All Latvian judges and a Latvian ref who docked him a point for basically battering the dude.

Lebedev and Kalenga are gonna kill each other. Kalenga is quadruple tough and fights like Sakio Bika on meth. It's gonna be insane.

Kalenga looked a monster in his win over Denton Daley. Lebedev better be in the best shape of his life. This should be war.

Daley didn't have power to keep Kalenga off him. Don't know who will win, but I don't see the Lebedev fight lasting 12 rounds.

That was a dreadful decision considering that Kalenga clearly deserved to win yet between the three judges he was given only one round. The crowd was vociferous in their support of Kalenga's opponent during the bout but even they could hardly cheer when that BS was announced.

No. He did not knock him out. He took a knee and couldn't make it to his feet. Should've been a TKO. Jones is a steroid abuser, by the way.

From the looks of things if Kalenga wins he'd better head for the airport as soon as he leaves the ring...

This Kalenga is juiced to the f'n gills. This is probably the first time he's actually been drug tested.

So far, Kalenga doesn't look good. He is either hoping to land a wild punch or that Lebedev will gas out before him.

Kalenga will need 3 knockdowns to get outta there with a decision, so he needs to find 2 more at some point.
