It sounds like they could be knowing him soon. Sounds like Adonis vs Sergey is being lined up for Sept/Oct in Canada. Adonis is sitting til then & supposedly Sergey will be fighting some other Kathy Duva 175lber in the meantime. Just gotta get the purse bid done & figure out if we are gonna see it on HBO (if Duva wins) or Showtime/NBC/CBS or w/e else it could be shown on (if Haymon or one of his promoters win).
I hope Kovalev is not contractually tied to HBO, because Duva won't win the purse bid.

no, its fact.bert beat kov.

It's also well-known that Beterbiev, a former two-time European Amateurs gold medalist, beat Kovalev in the amateur ranks. He wants to do so again in the pro game.

I think his contract is up and they are negotiating a new one.
The fight will be PPV in Canada so this could be tricky to negotiate.

Right, judges in amateur boxing in general and Russian in particular are so independent and honest :shame:

That was a fight for a place on the Russian team and ability to get shots at those European championships. Beterbiev had support of high-ranking Chechen leaders, so he had to get that spot meaning that Kovalev had to lose.

I'm extremely confident that at the moment no one in that weight range will beat him. Time will tell.

Campillo came in much better shape than vs Kovalev, and he still got completely annihilated.
Very, very impressive perf by Beterbiev.

This guy is a monster.

But we still have to see him vs a good puncher.

Imo before title shot he should fight one of these guys:
Eleider Alvarez
Isaac Chilemba
Michael Seals
Sullivan Barrera
Yunieski Gonzales

If he can beat some of these, he definitely deserve title shot against Kovalev or Stevenson

Btw: know anyone his amateur record?

Don't know about the bottom three, but Alvarez and Chilemba would be very good opponents. I consider Artur deserving of a shot already but I'd like to see him against a fellow contender who also has momentum and generally good recent form, as I feel Cloud and Campillo were shopworn. I also think that Alvarez and Chilemba have a better mix of skill and durability than the other pair does, and I'm interested in how Artur copes with that type of opponent rather than a limited slugger like Cloud and a solid but notoriously fragile and slow starting boxer like Campillo.

I think fighting a fellow contender would also prepare him more for a shot at one of the champions, which doesn't seem far off.

People keep saying this, but it seems like it'd depend on how much HBO is into showing it. Basically HBO has been doing what Al is doing now. Outsourcing the promotion of fights. Al is just doing it on a wider scale. So if HBO is willing to throw Kathy enough $$ one would assume she'd be willing to find investors to add to her purse bid final number if needed. Kinda like how Warriors(?) bid 3M on Dirrell vs DeGale likely knowing how much they'd be getting from Al thus insuring a winning & profitable for them bid. I definitely favor Al to win the purse bid myself, but I don't believe its a done deal that Kathy won't win it. Its just unlikely.

And I'd assume there is a purse bid clause in Sergey's contract to handle situations like this. Boxers obviously like having belts so to not have a clause that could avoid you losing a title or not being able to win a title would be bad business & Kathy seems like she digs Sergey enough to be watching out for him in that regard as best she can.

He had 300+ fights. And supposedly he only lost 5 fights. Two in the Olympics to the eventual gold medalists both times. Two of his L's were to HW prospect & Olympic Gold medalist Oleksandr Usyk.

I predict you will be saying on a few more Saturday nights & Sunday's how "shot" the guy Artur just beat was before you are able to appreciate what Artur is capable of.

It seems like the earliest we'd get Sergey or Adonis vs Artur is 2016 so this ain't likely to happen soon, but I think most of you guys will be in for some surprises based on what the majority opinion seems to be today.

Beterbiev already smoked Stevenson in a 'who would win?' poll in another thread and I suspect that it's now a minority opinion to think he wouldn't beat Adonis. I've also seen multiple predictions today that he'd beat Kovalev and it seems to me like 'most' people would give him a solid shot in that fight. He's being hyped plenty and I have little doubt there will be suggestions that Stevenson is taking on a tougher opponent should he swerve the long called for Kovalev match, which could determine an undisputed champion, to face Beterbiev; in fact I think you may have already made a comment to this effect.

Hum! I think it is a little premature to say he will destroy him. Think about it a second, you talking about a unified champions who completely dominate Pascal and Hopkins.
I agree Artur is very impressive with only 8 fights and i am pretty sure him and Kovalev will meet at least a couple time. But it will be solid fight until one of them hit the canvas for the count. Right now i see that fight 50/50, due to both guy having great power and solid fundamental.
For Adonis there is too much flaws about his boxing he ll get beat by both of these guys. Bila couldn t hurt him but these two Russian... They can turn off the light of anyone

That depends if Beterbiev can get past Kovalev's jab and maintain aggressiveness. I want to see this fight in 2017

Kovalev could lose focus and motivation by 2017. I would say one of them should beat Stevenson first and then they fight each other in early 2016.

Sh!t hope it doesn't take that long to make.

I think its fair game for 2016, Sergey gots a mandatory in the summer & then it sounds like Adonis & he will be fighting in late Sept/Oct. so assuming a minimum 3 month layoff/training period the earliest it could go down is probably Feb. 2016. Obviously there is a added degree of difficulty with Haymon vs HBO guys so I can't imagine this will be super easy to line up right after Adonis. And this is assuming Sergey beats Adonis in the first place which I don't believe is a foregone conclusion, although I tend to favor that outcome myself. Therefore if Adonis wins I definitely think we see Artur KTFO of Adonis in 2016.
