Brook v Gavin May 30th?
Interviews with Brook and Hearn on http://www.ifltv.co.uk/ hint at it.
Frankie posts on here and some on here have strongly backed him in a fight with Kell.

Re: Brook v Gavin May 30th?
He lost to skeete IMO, can't see him being competitive with brook.
Re: Brook v Gavin May 30th?
Thought he beat Skeete, but agree that he won't be competitive. If Frankie is better than Jo Jo Dan I don't think it's by much.
When was the last time a major title holder defended their belt(s) twice in two months?

Would the Brum show on 9th May be cancelled?
If this was to happen we'd end up with 3/4 decent bills smashed into one "mega-show" on 30th May - and the inevitable IFL interview where Eddie says "what you have to understand is we can't put this bill on without PPV".

Re: Brook v Gavin May 30th?
The Birmingham show will be a catastrophe without Gavin. One month to go and he is the only one to have an opponent named, with the rest of the people on the card not at the right level or it is too soon after their previous fight to have a big fight. It could well turn into a card similar to the one we had in Newcastle on Saturdaymagnus wrote:Would the Brum show on 9th May be cancelled?

Re: Brook v Gavin May 30th?
I think its going to happen but I don't think his proposed fight in August is going to happen. The winner or loser of Mayweather / Pacquiao will be calling after May 30th.
Re: Brook v Gavin May 30th?
I don't see it happening, Gavin is already booked in for a fight on may 9th and I'm betting he and his promoter will want to build up his record and his claim to a world title before attempting to get a shot so soon.
this fight is a step in the right direction for him and maybe even a title eliminator for later on in the year against Kell brook, a decent domestic World title fight would be fantastic for both men, win or lose.

Re: Brook v Gavin May 30th?
To me the fact that both Brook and Gavin have been publicly mentioning the possibility of the fight over the last few days indicates Hearn is probably quite keen on it happening.northern wrote:I don't see it happening, Gavin is already booked in for a fight on may 9th and I'm betting he and his promoter will want to build up his record and his claim to a world title before attempting to get a shot so soon.
He may just be testing the water to gauge public interest.
Re: Brook v Gavin May 30th?
that's a good point actually, sometimes it works just to tease a fight instead of announcing it after all

I'd be happy enough to watch Brook vs Gavin. Would I pay PPV to watch it? No.

Re: Brook v Gavin May 30th?
Would have backed him a while ago. Kell looks huge as a Welter and Frankie really doesn't. You can't go against Brook looking at the form line.Pugilist-specialist wrote:Interviews with Brook and Hearn on http://www.ifltv.co.uk/ hint at it.

Re: Brook v Gavin May 30th?
I've no interest in it. Gavin is domestic/European class, nobodoy's first first fight at world level should involve a title.
Until Gavin proves he belongs at world level, and is deserving of a world title shot, Brook must fight higher caliber opponents. Jo Jo Dan was a joke, he got away with it because he was his 'mandatory'. He's had his come back warm up fight, Brook talks the talk, its time to walk the walk now. With such a rich pool of fighters at 147 there can be no excuses for not doing so!

Re: Brook v Gavin May 30th?
This keeps being mentioned so there must be something in it. Easy fight to make for Hearn but I do t feel Gavin merits a shot. I'd like to see him take on Bundu again.
Re: Brook v Gavin May 30th?
I said from day one of Gavin's career that he would flop - he even called me a prick because of it. Bad choice to fight Brook so soon... it could end him.
Re: Brook v Gavin May 30th?
They're clearly testing the water. If the feedback is even remotely positive the fight will be on (I suspect).

Re: Brook v Gavin May 30th?
Gavin would be out of his depth, good as he is. Kell Brook is in another league.
Re: Brook v Gavin May 30th?
If this happen I fully expect Brook to make a public grovelling apology for any remarks made regarding the Khan vs Algeiri fight.
Frankie has yet to do anything to prove he is anywhere close to world class.

Re: Brook v Gavin May 30th?
Gavin posts here? Good, perhaps he can explain why he is fighting at welterweight to me as it appears to be simply that he is a lazy fukker who cannot be bothered to train and diet correctly
Re: Brook v Gavin May 30th?
Rather Gavin that someone like decarie. If he has to fight someone in the top 15 before a big summer fight I would much rather it be between two brits rather than someone at the same level as Gavin but which no one has heard of. Sure Gavin will be outmatched but so would hearns plan b opponent, and I would definitely be interested in this fight. Gavin will literally have to come good over night or he's in for a torrid night.

Re: Brook v Gavin May 30th?
It is an interesting matchup I will concede that, but I personally think Kell Brook has got bigger fish to fry in a talent rich Welterweight division than Frankie Gavin in all honesty. I would like Brook to fight anyone out of.
Keith Thurman
Juan Manuel Marquez
Brandon Rios
Tim Bradley
Amir Khan
While I would rather see Gavin get the European title and make a couple of defences of that and get a decent ranking before being considered for a world title shot.

Re: Brook v Gavin May 30th?
As someone whos got a ticket for the Brum show I'd be fuming if it did happen as I'm sure Van Herden would, do contracts mean nothing thesedays!
The Brum show already looks shit (only one other opponenet announced with around a month to go!) but doesn't seem Matchroom are bothered about any other shows anymore unless they are pay per view!
I'm a Gavin fan I've been to see him fight plenty before and want him to get a world title shot but have to admit if it was anyone else coming off a loss to Bundu, a win over an awful (trust me I was there) journeyman and a close win against Skeete I'd be saying how poor it was they get a world title shot. Frankie needs a couple of fringe world level wins Van Herden would be a good start...as planned!

Re: Brook v Gavin May 30th?
its probably indicative of the show that it's in Birmingham and I don't yet have a ticket, nor any plans to do so.
Re: Brook v Gavin May 30th?
Dissapointed in myself that I got a ticket early should have waited, thought after Hearn making a big deal about 'boxing returning to Birmingham' it would have been a decent card atleast.Counter-puncher wrote:its probably indicative of the show that it's in Birmingham and I don't yet have a ticket, nor any plans to do so.

I think your last paragraph sums the situation up perfectly.ste1983 wrote:As someone whos got a ticket for the Brum show I'd be fuming if it did happen as I'm sure Van Herden would, do contracts mean nothing thesedays!
