The jab one is very true. Kov is brilliant at it loved how he finished every combo on a jab against Pascal.

Step to the side, not straight back
Elbows in, chin down, hands up

It has been drummed into me to KEEP MY HANDS UP!

Don't sign anything until you've been over it and seen a good solicitor.
Re: Simple boxing tips?
I was told that the jab should come from the chin and that's where it should return to.

Concentrate ALL the time
Defend yourself at all times
Do your groundwork especially your strength work.
Forget anyone is watching you spar, it doesnt matter who wins.

If you catch yourself with your mouth open, close it tight.

The head coach at our am gym always hammers home:
-Start fast and be first.
-If in doubt, jab out.
-Hands up when in range.
He spent quite a few years in the army team, being coached by Billy's bro Chris.

Re: Simple boxing tips?
two rules in our gym. No1. The trainer is always right. No2. If the trainer is wrong. Refer too rule number 1.billy bessey wrote:I'm going to put a board up at the gym with some simple one sentence tips such as
Start and/or finish most combinations with a jab
Start and finish a round well.
Don't give away free punches
One in every 4/5 to be a power punch
Don't jump around when you're out of range
Can anyone add any to these please? Just simple ones as most are complete novices. Obviously I will explain what I mean by them but my gym is a roller coaster of fighters and unless I repeat it fortnightly(which will get boring for the regulars)Some won't know them. Thanking you all in advance

For me the footwork bit is the most confusing. Jabs landing at the same time as your feet etc.... Just complicating things! Head movement is the best advice. A good pair of feet will keep you out of bother.

Good advice. Can you critique mine please, mate?billy bessey wrote:Start and finish a round well.

Remember you're a boxer, so boxing training is what you should do most of.
(too many lads spend the overwhelming majority of their time doing weights, running, floor work, etc, etc, and nowhere near enough time actually doing boxing drills and boxing specific training e.g. sparring, shadow boxing, bag work, pad work, defensive drills, etc. Lots of kids in gyms with great physiques who can't box for toffee).
