You sarky git
Re: warren delivers bigtime for Liam Smith
Shocker of an opponent, should move Liam into the top 3 or 4 with the WBO though, been suggestions that Andrade is moving up in the last 6 months or so. In with a good shout of fighting for a world title by the end of the year, just need to wait on what's happening in the US.
Re: warren delivers bigtime for Liam Smith
Fwank would be just as well going round the local taxi ranks for an opponent. Expected better.
Re: warren delivers bigtime for Liam Smith
will he now give up or be stripped of his British title to allow others to fight for it ??
or be allowed to continue to fight these international fights and keep British also.

Embarassing
This matchmaking is surely detrimental to his development as a fighter.

Paul his elder brother got two world title fights on the back of fights against a losing journeyman in Jamie Ambler and David Sarabia ( who ? not fought since ! ) .

Re: warren delivers bigtime for Liam Smith
The match making for liam has been inept for a while now. I presume he is winding down his contract and will join his brothers at matchroom in due course. It is crystal clear Fwank is just not investing in decent opposition and presumably that is because he knows what's coming...
Re: warren delivers bigtime for Liam Smith
Maybe, Jim - I thought the Carson Jones bout was a cert and it would've been a good scrap.
Re: warren delivers bigtime for Liam Smith
What do Matchroom have that Smith doesn't get from his current promoter? Is it a family decision as I'd have though Warren was established enough to try and get Smith where he wants to be?

Looking at what Matchroom are doing with Stephen...there is no certainty they would do much better with Liam.magwitch wrote:What do Matchroom have that Smith doesn't get from his current promoter? Paul wasn't exactly getting anywhere either until Abraham needed another easy challenger.Boxing Prospect wrote:Looking at what Matchroom are doing with Stephen...there is no certainty they would do much better with Liam.magwitch wrote:What do Matchroom have that Smith doesn't get from his current promoter? Re: warren delivers bigtime for Liam Smith
If you look at the volume of proper world title opportunities delivered by matchroom compared to fwank there is just no comparison whatsoever these days.
Plus, look at how many fighters have left matchroom and been sued, compared to.... Well, you know.
Fwank's priority these days is his channel which is fair enough. I question the amount of money spent on bringing over good opponents for his rising prospects though, as evidenced by the rubbish being fed to liam. A good yardstick to apply in life is to go by what people do, not what they say. They talk of former world champs or world title challengers for liam but time after time they are paying peanuts and bringing in joke opponents. To me both parties know liam is winding down his contract which makes fwank's reluctance to invest in good opponents understandable. It happened with kell brook a few years ago, everyone said the right things publicly but behind the scenes kell would not sign a new contract and it was obvious he was going to jump ship.

Yeah but frankie Gavin re-signed with fwank too and was then off not long after.

Matchroom got Froch the Bute fight, how many other 'proper' world title opportunities have they delivered?JimJim2009 wrote:If you look at the volume of proper world title opportunities delivered by matchroom compared to fwank there is just no comparison whatsoever these days.

They have had loads but the best are May 30th which are winnable and at home.expe wrote:Matchroom got Froch the Bute fight, how many other 'proper' world title opportunities have they delivered?JimJim2009 wrote:If you look at the volume of proper world title opportunities delivered by matchroom compared to fwank there is just no comparison whatsoever these days.

Maybe Liam may just get thrown in ? Big bro Paul won the British then had 6 rounders and got a shot same may happen with Stephen.

Bellew left fwank, joined eddie, and went on to fight for a proper world title. So did paul smith, kell brook, and the likes of Stephen smith, James DeGale, selby, Mitchell, cleverly, etc are getting world title fights this year, add to the list brIan rose, Darren barker, etc. those are off the top of my head, you cannot realistically claim there isn't a big gap between these two promoters at the moment.
Or another way to answer the question is to say are all the fighters who have made the switch wrong ?

Re: warren delivers bigtime for Liam Smith
They've sent loads off to America for shit money, I wouldn't really call that getting them good opportunities. One champion brought over in the 3-4 years they've had the exclusive Sky deal is piss poor.Naandrew wrote:They have had loads but the best are May 30th which are winnable and at home.expe wrote:Matchroom got Froch the Bute fight, how many other 'proper' world title opportunities have they delivered?JimJim2009 wrote:If you look at the volume of proper world title opportunities delivered by matchroom compared to fwank there is just no comparison whatsoever these days.

Re: warren delivers bigtime for Liam Smith
One other point I wanted to make clear. It's important to note the difference between providing your fighter an opportunity and what happens in the ring. All the promoter can do is deliver the opportunity. What then happens is out of his control. Eddie is providing proper world title fight opportunities to his stable of fighters.
The other point I would make is that it's also significant who hasn't signed with fwank, not just list those who have jumped ship. the gold medalists signed with Eddie. Even those who didn't, like agogo, didn't sign with fwank. Matchroom is on the up with a load of potential world champs and stars on their books. I wouldn't blame Liam for wanting to jump ship but ultimately we are guessing at the status of the contract situation. It just seems strange to me that they keep feeding him bums that will cost peanuts.

Re: warren delivers bigtime for Liam Smith
I see your point expe but for a professional fighter, a world title fight is 'it' in terms of their hopes and ambitions. Not everyone can get home advantage, that's life. But either you get the opportunity or you don't.
Re: warren delivers bigtime for Liam Smith
Bellew - Sent away to Canada to get beat up.JimJim2009 wrote:Bellew left fwank, joined eddie, and went on to fight for a proper world title. P Smith - Close links with Sauerland helped to get him the fight, only had the ranking because of Frank.
Brook - Sent over to America, made it harder for him than it needed to be.
S Smith - Done a shocking job with him, yet to fight a decent opponent, lots of inactivity, could possibly get an eliminator at some point.
DeGale - Another one sent to America having to do it against the odds because he hasn't been backed.
Selby + Mitchell - Brought the champions over, done very well for those two.
Cleverly - Braehmer isn't a world champion.
Rose - Sent to America to get beat up.
Barker - Had to go to America for the title fight, packed off to Germany in the first defence.
Frank got Butler the Hall fight, brought Tete over for him and Abril's coming over to fight Derry. Considering the difference between the quality of fighters in each stable and that he hasn't got a major TV channel backing him, Frank's done well for his fighters. Matchroom fighters have got more world title fights, but they don't get given the best chance of winning them.
Re: warren delivers bigtime for Liam Smith
Some fights home advantage isn't possible or is worthless, Brian Rose wasn't beating Andrade in his living room with his missus as the ref and his Mum, Dad and Brother as the judges, waste of money bringing him over. But Barker was sent to America, to fight an Australian, wouldn't have been out of the question to bring Geale over and in a close fight like that home advantage can make the difference.JimJim2009 wrote:I see your point expe but for a professional fighter, a world title fight is 'it' in terms of their hopes and ambitions.
