Kell Brook's next opponent ?
Kell Brook's next opponent ?
After dispatching Iounut Dan ion (Jo Jo Dan) Kell can pick and choose who he fights next and he's even gone on to say he wants to fight twice over the summer.
To be 100% honest, Kell is a real champion in my opinion, he's not one who is going to sit back and do nothing he wants to prove he is one of the worlds elite by fighting and winning.
we all about the Amir Khan fight and what's been said and done there, but domestically he has other options:
- Frankie Gavin is another viable opponent: 3 fight win streak , current British and Commonwealth champion and has an impressive record 22-1
- Junior Witter and I know this wouldn't be a blockbuster fight but it's still interesting: both Sheffield based boxers, Witter has competed at world level and is fighting for the European Welter weight Title this month.
looking over the rest of the ranking's I've found a few other boxers who I think would be a good match for him or at least interesting to see-
- Jorge Paez jr: 38-5-2 record, 27 years old, won lesser titles at welterweight/super welterweight and next competing for the WBA interim super lightweight title
- Gianluca Branco: 49-3-1, 44 years old, has competed at world level in the past and is a constant contender at European level, his only losses coming against Matthew Hatton, Miguel Cotto and Arturo Gatti
- Victor Ortiz: 30-5-2, 28 years old, his last world title fight was against Floyd Mayweather jr for the WBC world welter weight title, proven he can compete witht he top level and is coming of a 4th round TKO win over Manuel Perez
- Sadam Ali: 21-0, 26 years old, just really starting to move into international level so could be interesting should he make it past Francisco Santana later this month
- Akinori Watanabe: 31-4, 29 years old, boasting 27 knockouts on his record is pretty impressive even if its against mainly domestic and regional opponents and has won lesser domestic and regional titles at welterweight
- Paul Malignaggi: 33-6 , 34 years old, he did compete against shawn porter last so he has competed for the IBF title before he is consistently near the top end of the welterweight rankings and has taken Amir khan almost the full 12 rounds, would be interesting to see how Kell handles him
- Chris van Heerden: 22-1, 27 years old, he's the current IBF international title holder and fights Frankie Gavin next so that fight could be an eliminator to see who fights Kell next
if you have any other thoughts, feel free to post and just include why they are good matches

Re: Kell Brook's next opponent ?
Maidana would be nice. A rematch with Porter would be good too. Most listed are not great. S. Ali maybe.... Berto even? I know people say he is shot but looked decent his last fight at least.
Another thought is give Bradley a shot instead of his title eliminator if he wants big fights. Brook had his mandatory, so he can pick.

Re: Kell Brook's next opponent ?
I admit I didn't put a lot of great fighters on my list just fighters who would give him the experience at world level and who didn't have any fights coming up in the near future or would be competitive/interesting for him.
-Maidana I didn't include because he's coming off of two losses to Floyd and I guess he would want to get back on a winning streak before a big fight
-Bradley it would be his first fight this year and he's coming off a loss to Pacquiao and a draw against Chaves
-Berto I was thinking he'd want to unify his interim title in a fight with Keith Thurman who holds the full world title, before going for another belt
that's just to explain why I left those three out of my list, all good fighters but there is reasonable doubt as to why these fights wouldn't happen right now

Re: Kell Brook's next opponent ?
I think it is a decent list, and if Brook wants to stay busy he may get a good challenge by some of the ones you listed. Gavin I heard will probably fight Bradley next.
From what I read it may be Brandon Rios. Brook, like Khan, does not want to risk losing his next fight imo unless it is Khan. Maybe if Khan fights Broner instead of Algieri, Brook could fight Algieri?
I think Brook is a solid champion, and will take on most anyone. He was brought up through the ranks slowly, but properly imo.

Re: Kell Brook's next opponent ?
Paez Jr is fighting for a 140lb abc belt next month so I doubt thats doable.
Paulie is talking about coming back lately so he could be a name guy to fight next. Don't know that thats getting anyone, including Kell & his people, excited though.
Sadam would be a good one.
I keep hearing bigger names like Juan Manuel (if he fights again obviously) & Brandon Rios & I think for where Kell is at those names, if doable, would be his best options.

Haven't they been talking with Marquez ?
Algieri (if he isn't fighting Khan)
Provo/Matthysse winner
Thurman

Re: Kell Brook's next opponent ?
I wanted Brook/Marquez myself, but Marquez is rehabbing his knee and I think there's a decent possibility he won't fight again.
Brook/Maidana and Brook/Thurman would both be great fights.

Re: Kell Brook's next opponent ?
Hope it's not Rios. Rios isn't on Brook's level. Maidana would be great but is coming off two losses.
Re: Kell Brook's next opponent ?
Personally I'd rather see him face Khan but since the DUCK has not learned only how to run but to fly and fly away quickly to an easier opponent then I wouldn't mind seeing him beat up Devon Alexander and get miles of credit off of him like Amir has managed to do even though Porter did it first.
Seriously though (I was just taking shots at Con above) I'd prefer to see him face Thurman, Bradley or JMM and this will help give him more legitimacy and it will also give him a better shot at getting the winner of the Mayweather vs Pacquiao fight.
Some people will argue and say that Kell isn't ready for either man or that he isn't deserving of a fight with either but he has a huge bargaining chip (belt/title) that the winner will likely consider in order to unify and beating either man I mentioned give him notoriety and also earns him more money vs either man.

Re: Kell Brook's next opponent ?
Junior Witter is not just a Sheffield based boxer, he is a big part of the Ingle gym where Brook has trained since he was a child.
From the look of the British and Irish forum it may be Frankie Gavin.

I wouldn't mind to see Rios. If Brook can school Rios the way Pac did, then he will put himself in a position to fight Manny.flob wrote:Hope it's not Rios. Rios isn't on Brook's level. Maidana would be great but is coming off two losses.
Re: Kell Brook's next opponent ?
Khan get dogs abuse for not fighting Kell but instead choosing an opponent who is probably stronger than Kells last opponent. Then it's deemed acceptable for kell to fight any of these namesnorthern wrote: - Frankie Gavin

Khan is accused of being a duck despite the fact he's (perhaps overly optimistically) holding out for a fight against the very best p4p on the planet. Kell however doesn't have to call out the best of the best, it is more than acceptable for him to fight Frankie "I'll never be better than European level" Gavin?
Come on man, if Khan had chosen any of these names for his next fight it would be branded a disgrace.
Re: Kell Brook's next opponent ?
In my estimation I think that Kell should be targeting fights against former Welterweight World Champions. Only fights against these guys would give him the credibility and recognition that he rightfully deserves. Adding a few World Champs names to his resume would do Kell the world of good.
And in that regard, I would say that there's two different categories in this:
Class A
Guys like Tim Bradley, Marcos Maidana and Juan Manuel Marquez who are undeniably BIG names in the sport, but could prove very difficult tests for Kell to navigate.
Class B
Guys like Paulie Malignaggi, Andre Berto, Roberto Guerrero and Victor Ortiz - who I think that Kell would have a very good chance of beating them handily enough.
If Kell starts adding recognised names to his list of victims he further strengthens his cause and adds a bit of star quality to himself.

Re: Kell Brook's next opponent ?
No khan is a disgrace for having the attitude of a world beater but not having either the record or the title around his waist or the will to go out and prove it. example look at his record over the last few years:davie wrote:Come on man, if Khan had chosen any of these names for his next fight it would be branded a disgrace.northern wrote: - Frankie Gavin

2011 -
*fought the European champion Paul McCloskey and the fight was one sided and a lot of people thought it was stopped too soon
*fought Zab Judah who was over matched
*fought Lamont Peterson and lost
2012-
*fought Danny Garcia and lost
*fought carlos Molina who was 17-0 at the time he had no business competing at world level then
2013 - fought once
*Julio Diaz a blown up lightweight
2014
*Luis collazo who's only big fight before khan in his recent history was against Victor Ortiz who I've named
*Devon Alexander admittedly a good win, but he had only fought once that year before fighting Khan
The people I've named are people who have no fight lined up and if they do it sets up a more interesting fight for a promoter, I've named people who would be available to keep Kell busy after he has said he wants to fight twice over the summer months. unlike khan who has not fought yet this year and the rate he's going he might only fight the one that he has announced if he's going to keep waiting for either Floyd or Manny.

Re: Kell Brook's next opponent ?
Jo Jo Dan was a mandatory so you cant blame Kell.
Madiana - Unlikely to take it after 2 losses on the bounce, and doesn't bring much to the table in terms of "Risk vs Reward".
Bradley - Coming off a loss and a draw. I believe he will be looking for a solid win before he jumps into another title fight.
Marquez - I think you need an invite to fight this guy these days!
Thurman - Probably the only likely guy. However Keith may already have a fight lined up or is taking another route.
After that it pretty much just leaves the guys you mentioned..

Re: Kell Brook's next opponent ?
Thurman has too much firepower for Kahn. Brook on the other hand would be a great fight for Keith, Brooks skills vs. Thurmans offensive arsenal
Re: Kell Brook's next opponent ?
It's VERY ironic to me to learn that Brook is now hesitant to take on a tough fight next because he doesn't want to jeopardize a fight with Khan later in the year. KBB, isn't that the same exact thing Khan's doing in anticipation for a fight with Floyd/Manny"? Let's see you justify this one big boy. By your rational, Brook will be "ducking".Personally I'd rather see him face Khan but since the DUCK has not learned only how to run but to fly and fly away quickly to an easier opponent then I wouldn't mind seeing him beat up Devon Alexander and get miles of credit off of him like Amir has managed to do even though Porter did it first.
Let's see who takes on the toughest tuneup bout, KBB. It will be interesting to see your reply.

Re: Kell Brook's next opponent ?
Gavin didn't impress me on the Brook undercard so to be honest I don't rate this match up at all.
Kell may as well fight Porter again as fight Gavin. It makes the Khan v Algieri fight look inspiring to be honest.
Are ticket sales slow for the 30th May bill, is Eddie adding Brook V Gavin a way of beefing the card up ?

Kevin Mitchell the former British Super-Featherweight champion has got Jorge Linares for the WBC Lightweight title and he normally sells well as he a West Ham boy which is not far from Greenwich plus Anthony Joshua is on there too. I think John Ryder is on the bill, or perhaps might get added.darylslinn wrote:Gavin didn't impress me on the Brook undercard so to be honest I don't rate this match up at all.

None of yinz mentioned Sammy Vasquez. I think he'd kick Kelly Brook's ass from Big Ben to Liverpool.
Sammy will be making all of yinz believers real soon. Go ahead and talk yer smack numb nuts

Maybe he could start with a better Alias...A good prospect though. However, even if he continues to win, he probably wont get a title shot before he is 30.
Brook vs Gavin is good if he is waiting ( or ducking as the numb nuts say) for a big fight with Amir Khan. Heck I would do the same for the chance of 1-2 million dollars.
Re: Kell Brook's next opponent ?
Can't help but wonder if Kell Brook is a better boxer than originally advertised.
