Andre Ward vs. Marco Antonio Periban

Andre Ward vs. Marco Antonio Periban

http://www.BS.com/andre-ward-m ... -20--89385

Periban has just ONE win (against a low-level journeyman) in his past five fights. He was stopped in round three by James DeGale.

The fight would be in Ward's home town of Oakland.

Terrible. I know he's been out of the ring for a while but at this rate every fight will be a comeback and Periban doesn't belong in the same ring as an elite fighter considering his limitations and recent form of one win in five bouts.

I think Ward tried to fight Caleb Truax and Dmitri Sartison a year or two ago as well and HBO rejected each of them. Seems to have gone a bit soft since winning the SS...

Its OK for a tune-up, but well... why watch the fight, if you already know (99%) who's gonna win? And its not very entertaining, style-wise, unlike Kovalev-Pascal as example.

Crap fight. Only way this is acceptable matchmaking is if it's a warmup and Ward fights again like 6-8 weeks later.

They could just save money and fight at Andre's gym. Not too many people will want to watch it anyway.

i thought periban beat bika and jack. love and degale were legit contenders.
periban obviously not elite level but he deserves to be in the top 15 super-middles.
looks like more of a comeback fight for ward but they were talking about him fighting
a few times this year.

No matter how inferior Periban is, Ward will probably still find a way of prolonging the agony till the final bell as usual.

Ward would be better off tuning up against Porky Medina

I don't mind it, Periban gave 3 decent fighters a very tough fight and I thought the DeGale stoppage was premature so he may have looked better if it was allowed to continue. Most people would look for a journeyman to get the rust off against but Periban is still a fringe contender I guess. :TU:
Surely it can't be for the belt though?

After so long out he is entitled to a tune up, just hope he can stay active now, alot of time wasted.

At least we will now see where he should be which is in the ring, rather than outside of it commenating for HBO!!. But it is a good way for him to get back in the groove for bigger fights at Super-Middle or Light Heavy.

Andre Ward is a Roc Nation fighter. He has no affiliation whatsoever to Al Haymon.

Ward has been looking for a Cruiser to come down to 168 and fight at his gym... that's why he hasn't been fighting.

I guess he finally lowered his demands.

So is Jay Z really going to outbid Hearn on this if Ward is serious about the fight? What do we think?
