Easy to make, pay day for both, keeps Brook busy and crucially keeps Bradley, who was suggested to fight Gavin in eliminator, out of the Brook narrative.

Superb business from EH.

And if Brook is going to fight 4 times a year. I don't mind this fight.

If this was one of two, it would smell a little worse.

But as another tick over with an story, I quite like it.

Frankie Gavin is going to shock the world!

Frankie Gavin, Welterweight Champion of the World!

I really hope he beats Kell impressively enough to land the winner of May/Pac so Gavin can unify all 4 welterweight belts and be the true, unified, lineal champion.

Personally and going against the majority of most posters on here I think it is a good fight, and a sensible move for both men. Brook isn't exactly a dominant or outstanding champion (yet) and although Gavin hasn't fought (and won) at world class he isn't a young pro so is a good opportunity for him. Maybe Gavin is the kind of fighter that needs something like this to lift him?

So for what its worth I think a decent fight between two good level British fighters.
He hasn't won at European class yet!
Cant be arsed to check his record but I dont think Brook won at European level, apart from Senchenko-mainly inter continental I think, and his resume not exactly brimming with world class named either.

If fighting Gavin, allows Eddie to work kell into a fight with rios in August/sept then it's a good fight.

If he gets another gimme then khan has a point.

If I'm Eddie, I'm trying my balls to get the rios fight, then Bradley will most likely be mandatory so by this time next year, khan won't have anything to say regarding kell, especially if he wins v rios and bradly. I think it's a clever move by Eddie. Sell more tickets, build the noise over a khan fight whilst getting some decent names over

Frankie USED to post on here but arseh0le comments like yours have ensured that he doesn't anymore..
Well said :salut:
Bollox is it well said. He is a boxer. This is a boxing forum. He is a lazy arse who does not diet or train correctly and that is apparent from his physique, lack of strength and increased bodyweight.

I do not give a fck if he does post here, his notorious lackadaisical training habits are fair game for commenting on

Totally agree. Gavin gives the impression he's owed world titles rather that actually have to work for them. Always looks sulky.

It's a good fight. Why wait for Khan, and just crack on instead. This approach paid dividens for Froch. Ward was sat out for a long time, and instead of waiting around for a rematch, Froch picked up huge paychecks, improved as a fighter and acheived significant wins. The more Brook fights the better he is going to be.I am looking forward to this next stage of his career. Khan will have to fight him at some stage or will risk getting frozen out.

To Boxing prospect above:

There are names on Gavins record that compare to many of the guys on Brooks resume-Vassell, Witter, Barnes, Bundu and Skeeteall good pros (imo) I don't think there is the gulf in quality people are saying-and certainly a winnable if outside shot, for Gavin. If he can get up for it and Brook thinks he is for an easy night could easily turn into a banana skin. Gavin hasnt fired as a pro, but clearly has skills and has had some title experience, so for me I don't mind the fight. I have seen a lot, lot worse.

Opportunity for Brook to get some rounds in against a skilful boxer, before he goes on to some tougher defences, opportunity for Gavin to upset the applecart.

I can't see why anyone would complain about this fight at this stage,Brook has taken care of the mandatory, yes he was poor, but Brook had to fight him,Khan ran like a chicken so why not have an easy one ( on paper anyway ),the fight is only a few weeks away, maybe a bit too late to draft in a big name,Frankie however seems to be going nowhere fast so would be stupid to turn the chance down for a big pay day, losing to Bundu did him no harm,in fact it did him a favour,so if as expected Brook beats him up,so what.

Khan got given shit for fighting Algieri, then on the same day Brook fights Gavin, making him look a bit stupid. Gavin shouldn't be anywhere near a world title fight after losing at European level.

I agree mate, but like i say it's quite short notice really for anyone else i would think and Kell wants to keep busy, for the record i think Brook will be far too strong for Gavin and walk right through him.

Has Frankie shown that as a pro he's any better than Jo Jo Dan, and what is that based on (being British doesn't count)? Vassell, the version of Witter Frankie fought, Barnes, and Skeete (many thought he beat Frankie) aren't/weren't better than British level in my opinion and of course Frankie lost when he moved past that level. I can't fault Brook for this considering that most champions would sit on the sidelines rather than take a bout so shortly after their previous one, but in my view it's clearly a mismatch between a good champion and an undeserving challenger.

Not sure where the "good champion" comes from. Brook has potential to be a good champion, but he isnt there yet. I dont think his record is exactky brimming with world class opposition. Boxing history, particularly in recent years is full of undeserving "world" title shots, many of them brits and as someone upstairs said Brook has done his mandatory. This is a money making business, not a sport and this makes good business sense for everyone involved.

Brook traveled to the US and clearly beat a top ten fighter who had momentum and he's generally blown through EBU class opponents, which to me makes him a good champion by today's standards. On the other hand, in Frankie's one trip above British level he lost to someone who didn't win a round when they ventured into world level, he struggled significantly with Skeete and on many cards didn't win, and he's looked lackluster many other times, including in his last fight against a poor opponent.

I'm not suggesting that it's anything but a good move business-wise (protecting fighters through mismatches is commonly good business too) and for Brook it's probably better than doing nothing, but I don't see how it's remotely a good fight based on the merit of the challenger and how he compares to the champion. The trite 'upset the applecart' line can also be used for virtually any bout which involves a heavy underdog and a well-back fighter, including dross like Garcia-Salka.

No pressure on Gavin (unlike every other time he fights), this could work in his favour. I think Brook will win, but Gavin would be a fool to turn down such an offer.

You lose an eliminator, change promoters and get a World Title Shot, only in Boxing!

At one point I thought he would, Brook has turned out to be better than I thought and Gavin isn't as good, especially at welterweight, as I thought he was.
