"Come out here and fight!" Johnson yells to Ali
Muhammad is careful blocking shots, but unable to counter effectively, Jack's speed is obviously bothering him...
Johnson is landing jabs to Ali's face..
And while I do love seeing old articles like this.... I disagree with the writer's opinion that Johnson would of won.
Ali was Johnson SQUARED. Anything Johnson could do, Ali could do it many times better. He was far faster, far more precise, far more accurate, greater ring generalship, etc. you name it Ali could do it--- he would of out pointed Johnson widely, or he would of cut him to bits. I seen many men with equal skills or abilities and attributes like Johnson, and Ali just made guys like that look ordinary. I mean, in all honesty, how many people can you name OUTBOX Muhammad Ali?
Out fight, out slug, etc. is a different story altogether. But Johnson was more noted for his boxing prowess--- and strong, tough, hard puncher that he could be--- he'd have nothing that Ali hadn't seen or experienced either. And everyone knows I am no Ali fan in any degree, shape or form. So if I can say that of Ali in this hypothetical, then that speaks volumes, really of Johnson's chances against Ali.
That article is not fiction. More like science fiction. Ali would easily defeat Johnson as he does everything better outside of the uppercut and is bigger.
If johnson would have won this fight, then nothing in boxing has improved. how can you compare a boxer from the 1900's to a boxer of the 1970's?
Boxers over the years have improved with the latest available technology, better dietry needs, better training equipment, better techniques etc etc. Ali would have easily beaten Johnson whether that was by ko or points.
