Price vs Chisora

Post by Boxerbeetle »

Looks like this one is on - Del Boy tweeted it earlier & Price has re-tweeted so presumably it's confirmed? Anyone know the details yet?

I don't think Chisora has the conditioning to last the distance with a big lump the way he did against Vitali,Price will just play it safe like he did against Costa and his other recent fights and if he sees an opening eventually then he'll finish it,if not I'll suspect he'll be quite happy to coast on points, I don't think this version of Dereck will be able to withstand constant jabs and right crosses from David and will probably need to retire on his stool again

In saying that if Chisora can dredge up the sort of performance that Frazier was able to muster in the 3rd Ali fight, lots of hustling and movement then who knows how Price's gas tank will hold up if it goes into the second half of the fight

Great fight though

Chisora's condition, the first Fury fight aside, has always been pretty spot on. He'll grind Price down no problem, providing he can avoid/take the big right hand.

this ^^

big punch from price an obvious danger....but chisora like a sponge when it comes to eating big shots....as for conditioning....going on past form i'd see price blowing out of his arse long before chisora.

Chisora doesnt have the hunger or desire anymore imo.

hes also looked less "tough" since the Haye fight.

Price will win this i think, theyre not stupid, this will make people suddenly see Price as credible again, or at least back on the road to credibility..

Chisora wins.... and I wont go into any details.... he may be a fringe contender or hard nosed journeyman... but it's more than Price has proven or showed.

I agree and think price stops him early. I don't think fury whacks anywhere near as hard as price and neither does Haye. Chisora has taken a lot of shots from those 2 as well as vitali so i think he is ripe for an early stoppage to throw the big fellas name back into the mix.

I think Haye hits as hard but the rest, I agree with ( across both posts )

Price is very much a confidence man. I can imagine the rounds Price and Chisora sparred in the England camp will give him plenty of confidence for this one. It certainly did in the Sexton fight. I also think that's why he would be confident against Fury.

I think this one is over within 5 rounds. Chisora has looked punchy ever since the Haye fight. Hope he is getting well paid for this.

If Chisora gets into good shape and takes the fight seriously he wins this. Price will lose to anyone that can fight a bit, if of course he does not blast them out early. His size and power is a danger to most, it keeps him relevant, but his punch resistence will never be up to the job IMO. He's an accident waiting to happen.

Am I correct in thinking that Price already openly ducked Chisora in the past and vacated his British title to avoid him?

He said he wasn't mentally ready for a fight with Chisora at that time.

I'm not really sure what has changed for Price? All he has done recently is look ordinary vs journeymen like Costa Jnr who he took into the second half of the fight (a washed up Boystov stopped Costa Jnr inside 2 the following month).

The questions about Price's Chin, heart & stamina all still remain IMO ...

Strongly disagree. Haye is a very hard punching cruiserweight.

Price hasn't stopped anyone to suggest he has more power than Haye. He may well do but I can't agree he has more power than Haye just yet. Thompson got up.

He's got more than enough to blast a shopworn Del Boy out in double quick fashion though. It's a good fight for Price. Fury beat him only recently and Tyson's old man started talking about Chisora being one of the 3 best heavyweight on the planet afterwards. Proud fathers can exaggerate a little!
If Price does a job on him then it puts his name back in the discussion

Adam Booth said in an interview that Price hits harder than anyone he had taken on the pads which obviously includes Haye (and possibly Wilder).
The difference is that Haye had blistering hand speed and excellent shot selection, in the end that is what stopped Del.
Price has the power to hurt him, it's a matter of whether or not he can land a bomb before Del gets inside and roughs him up.

Chisora is on the decline so its a great step for Price and he should get a lot of confidence stood in front of someone who had the potential to fight. So it will be a good step for Price in confidence terms, I expect Price to stop Chisora inside 4 rounds.

The interesting thing about this is that it would make a good match for joshua after Price has stopped him. It would make a decent match to see if josh could stop Chisora any quicker.

Chisora was looking good since the Haye loss, picked up the European, KO'd Scott etc but he wasn't going rounds,he had about 3 fights all stopped before the 5th,roughly

Fury toyed with him in the rematch and Dereck was never in it,by the halfway stage, he was ready to go,I see Price hitting him with more hurtful, harder shots than Tyson was letting go

It's the perfect "welcome back to Britain" fight for David Price. Pricey really needs to up his game, he's coming 32 here in a couple of months and times running out for him to get in to big meaningful fights.

Pricey's longtime rival, Tyson Fury has completely outshone him, AJ looks the new kid on the block and The Hayemaker's return (Haye has said that he wants 2 fights before the end of the year) means that there isn't much room in the British Heavyweight market.)

If Price wins this, he should really be looking at recapturing that British title, or having a look at the Commonwealth title.

I'm pretty sure that did happen actually, remember Price on Bunce's show saying he wasn't ready to face Chisora so soon after the Thompson losses & needed to re-build slowly.

I think that we are talking about different time periods.

Mr Maxsplit highlighted Price vacating the British title - I remember Pricey repeatedly calling out Tyson Fury & in ring-side interviews Price has always seems very open at the prospect of fighting Chisora. So that would have been around 2012ish.

You are talking about after his losses to Thompson, which would have been around Autumn 2013, when he wasn't the British Champ anymore.

Because Mr Maxsplit brought up Price's British Title, I think that he means before the Thompson fights when he was still the British Champ, and not after the Thompson fights when he never had the belt anymore.

So when & why did Price drop the British title? Must admit I can't remember, I assumed it was after the Thompson losses?

This is a really good match up.

I have said before that Chisora looks a shadow of his former self and I doubt whether he has the same punch resistance he used to have. However I still have big question marks over David Price.

I am a big Del Boy fan and I think that he will relish going to Liverpool and ruining the 'homecoming' if it is being billed as that.

A defeat for Chisora means he will probably hang them up, a defeat for Price will mean if he wants to continue it will be at domestic/European level.

For the same reason that everyone vacates the British title - he wanted to move on to bigger and better things. He thought it was time to step up, so he signed to fight a world-class opponent in Thompson.

People tend to forget this but Thompson was ranked in the top 10 in the division when Pricey fought him - currently, Thomspon is still in the top 10 (ranked 7th).

The situation is comparable to when Tyson Fury vacated the Irish tile to fight Kevin Johnson (who was also in the top ten at that time) in an fight that I was at.

If Price wins this then he should look at getting Hammer in the ring straight after and knock him out. Chase Fury, make it blatantly obvious too

It's off-topic here, but even if Chisora loses, it's not the end of the world for him. Chisora could still beat most of the British fighters out there knocking around the Heavyweight division.

If Haye, Fury, AJ & Pricey all move up to European-level honours and are in the top 10 of the division, Chisora could still have a pretty decent reign as the British Champion after they have all moved up. The only problem with that is that he won't be a headliner any longer, and he would probably be relegated to being a penultimate fight man, but it could still be a tidy earner for him.
