Frampton/McGuigan paradox
Frampton/McGuigan paradox
What do people think about the relationship and general workings of these two guys? Frampton is my favourite fighter and I think he is the complete package. He has a great team around him and his relationship with McGuigan obviously works. I could listen to Frampton talk all day. Being from the West of Scotland his attitude and stance on the Protestant/Catholic thing really refreshes my outlook and kind of restores my faith again! However I think Barry hogs the limelight a little too much where Carl is concerned. Maybe he is just excited and can't help himself? Who knows?

Well here's my take on it:Stuarty30 wrote:However I think Barry hogs the limelight a little too much where Carl is concerned. Maybe he is just excited and can't help himself? Who knows?
I think that first off, it's important to remember that Barry has been there with Carl since the day he turned professional, and even way back then Barry was quite vocal about Carl being World Champion one day. He's had absolute belief in his young prodigy and helped keep Carl heading in the right direction. (Though it's debatable if Carl needs it)
Barry knows the "dirty" side of boxing and that fundamentally it's a selfish sport where everyone is out to make and much money as they can. When you look and listen to Eddie hearn, he sows himself at the ultimate capitalist making money off the backs of his fighters - and he's unashamedly honest about that.
(check out this video for proof: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RkRPaR0MAq0)
The truth is Hearn is interested in getting involved with Frampton whilst Carl is going good and winning fights and making money... But if/when Carl is defeated, Hearn will lose interest in him and drop him like a bad habit. Whereas Barry would stay with him and stand by him. Barry had these sorts of problems (and more) back in his own fighting days when he was with Barney Eastwood. In my view, Barry is definitely a great man to have on board with Carl and the team.
People have often commented about Barry's (maybe) overzealous celebrations dafter Carl's victories, but I don't mind it. It's clear that they're friends and get on well. Personally, if one of my mates ever became a World Champion, I'd be ecstatic for him.

Good post mate
It clear Barry actually cares about Frampton's welfare as opposed to just wanting to make money off him.

I think that's a great post mate and how I feel about them, I remember Barry on Ringside with Quigg and Munroe taking about Frampton...its obvious he has total faith in him and a genuine careCrease wrote:Well here's my take on it:Stuarty30 wrote:However I think Barry hogs the limelight a little too much where Carl is concerned. Re: Frampton/McGuigan paradox
Does anyone knows what if Framptons position in Cyclone promotions? Does he own the part of it?
Re: Frampton/McGuigan paradox
Barry's 100% shareholder, but Shane, his wife, Frampton and his other two sons Blain and Jake are all directors with him.Tarkus wrote:Does anyone knows what if Framptons position in Cyclone promotions? Does he own the part of it?

McGuigan has always been an excitable character, its clear he's passionate about the sport and Frampton,it seems to work for them
I remember Carl saying sometimes before a fight he has to ask Shane to tell his dad to leave the dressing room as he's too pumped up while Carl's trying to relax listening to Sam Cooke

I'm told he always charges for a photo or autograph. Apparently if he was any tighter, he'd be a payday loan lender.handsofstone wrote:Really? He has always been happy to sell his soul for a pieces of silver, think of all of the tomato cans she has talked up to sell sky shows.handsofstone wrote:He's never came across anything other than a great guy who cares about the sport and has time for anybody
He was even willing to train Flintoff!

To be honest after 27 years as a serious boxing fan, I only learned today, through a link on Boxrec that his name is really Finbar!
Im still a little surprised.....
Re: Frampton/McGuigan paradox
Frampton has developed into a real great little fighter. McGuigan has played a huge part in Frampton's rise and Frampton will be making great money every time he fights, as he has done so for the past 18 months. He is now huge box office in the north of Ireland.
McGuigan's experience and knowledge is invaluable to Frampton, and i know that McGuigan's presence gives Frampton big confidence.
McGuigan has positioned Frampton and himself very well in terms of maximising profits whilst retaining the control to make decisions. Masterstroke moving away from Matchroom and even better getting on primetime ITV. I cant see McGuigan short changing Frampton in any way or taking too big a slice of the cake, McGuigan would never jeopardise his reputation which is pretty high in Britain and even higher on the island of Ireland.

Re: Frampton/McGuigan paradox
The relationship appears to work, however Barry I'm not too keen on as it just feels like it's Barry second coming..
A quarter of century and he's found a golden ticket you would think they are father and son which I feel for his son the trainer... .. A bit harsh I know but I do struggle with Barry. ..

Re: Frampton/McGuigan paradox
The main thing is that Frampton has done really well with Barry (and vice versa) and I don't think Frampton would be where he is now were it not for Barry and Shane. Another plus point in my eyes is that they've brought big-time boxing back to Belfast and that's working really well too.
Granted Barry is an unusual character but I think he's good for the sport and good for his fighters. He's always had the best interests of fighters at heart, look at the PBA for example. I don't think he steals the limelight from Carl either, if he was one of those ego merchants he could do that but I don't think he does. When he's talking about Carl I've hardly ever heard him refer to his own career, it's all about Carl.

People must have forgot what Barry achieved. I was only a kid but it was a lot bigger than Frampton is now. Last time I saw Frampton live, it was in a six rounder in Huddersfield! Barry hasn't done a bad job. Of course he gets excited, he's had him from a kid, and obviously wants to earn a few bob.

Re: Frampton/McGuigan paradox
Barry obviously loves the game etc, but lets not get carried away, he isn't involved for the love of it. He wants his dough out of it and whats wrong with that?
I like Barry, he comes across well but I also know a bit about him away from the sport ( ex-business partners with a local civil engineer who I know in my area ) and when it comes to a pound note, he is all business. Why would this be any different in Boxing?
Those who see this as a blisfully happy marriage based on the love of the sport and "crossing the divide" are off their head. It's ALL about the dough, and again, what is wrong with that? Nothing at all.
I've been assured that Barry was ten times more popular back in his heyday than what Frampton is now. I was too young to know. The world was a smaller place back then and the fights you watched were the ones you were given. Now you can watch almost any fight you like and follow fighters from places like Kazakhstan with little trouble. Frampton isn't talented enough to crack the real big time ( he isn't Hatton, Lewis, Calzaghe, Naz etc )
I just hope he and Quigg, and Bary and even effing Eddie all make a decent wedge out of a fight a lot of us want to see ( I'm not actually all that fussed about it )

You honestly think its ALL about the dough? I'm pretty sure he has some feelings for the lad and genuinely wants to see him do well after seeing him rise and rise in the game and being a big part of it. Don't get me wrong, I'm not blind and yes I can see that he will make some money as well along the way, I just think there is more to it than that..lillywhite14 wrote:Barry obviously loves the game etc, but lets not get carried away, he isn't involved for the love of it. Also...how do you class cracking the big time?? he's already up there with the best in the division and could probably sell out arenas in Belfast whenever he feels like it while being brilliant to watch along the way! I'd say he verging on big time already???
Re: Frampton/McGuigan paradox
Does he charge for his photo? Is that a recent thing?
