PBF v Hatton
PBF v Hatton
It could fall through, but if it happens, it would be huge. Gotta give Ricky a chance though, as much as anyone else anyway especially since Castillo gave PBF a beating and he is not dissimilar to Hatton.
From BBC
Floyd Mayweather's trainer says a fight with Ricky Hatton is likely to take place in New York some time in 2006.
Mayweather was set for a super-fight with Zab Judah in April before the latter lost his undisputed welterweight crown to Carlos Baldomir on Saturday.
Roger Mayweather told BBC Sport: "The fact Floyd's fight against Judah is off means a fight against Hatton is much bigger now and much easier to make.
"Floyd wants it, but he isn't going to fight in front of Hatton's home crowd."
Floyd Mayweather is a former three-weight world champion and regarded by many as the best pound-for-pound fighter in boxing.
He was set to make $6m (£3.4m) from the fight against Judah and he may want to push through a fight with Hatton, the IBF and WBA light welterweight champion, to recoup his losses.
Hatton's going to be a punch bag because he's got no defence
Roger Mayweather
"They're the best in their division so it adds up," added Roger Mayweather, Floyd's uncle. "And people are trying to make it happen."
Hatton's camp recently stated they would like two tune-up fights in America before facing Mayweather, so any match is likely to take place in the winter.
Roger Mayweather said his charge may mark time with a fight against WBC welterweight titlist Baldomir.
And he said his fighter would not be losing any sleep over a showdown with Manchester's Hatton.
"I'm confident Floyd will beat anyone in the world. Hatton's going to be a punch bag because he's got no defence.
"He's a tough guy and takes risks. But against Floyd, those risks are going to cost him."

Just been watching the first Floyd-Castillo - Floyd won 5 of the first 5 rounds imo, round 6 was a biggish round for Castillo, 7 was Castillos but closer, I'll watch the rest later, Mayweather took Castillos shots and prove his chin in R6-R7, I'll watch the rest later. I doubt its the robbery people make it out to be - Floyd only needs 2 more rounds on my card to be a clearer winner.
Also watched the supposedly controversal Augustus fight - no controversy whatsoever - very 1 sided - but Augustus was hard working, skilled and tough as nails.
Castillo at no time gave him a beating, Hatton will give Floyd more offensive problems than Castillo - hes faster - But Floyd is usually better than that. Castillo also has a better defense than Hattons. Also I think Floyds offensive work has improved since that fight. So floyd will be able to more easily discourage Hatton.
Hatton for his part has never ever fought a slick boxer who could give him angles so he should take a fight with Mitchell/Witter/Corley could be good preparation but are unlikely to happen because they're dangerous. Even Maussas defense gave him problems at times but that was a poor version of Ricky just as the Castillo fight showed a poor version of Mayweather.
So if Ricky is telling the truth and really wants this fight he can get it easily now, maybe the Judah loss could be good for boxing afterall.

how do ya! new poster here im afraid.
read a bit on here though over the past couple of weeks... nice to see some Anglo-US banter from both sides of the Hatton-PBF debate.
sorry to add to it as its no doubt getting tedious, but a small point.. whats to say that ricky will get ko'd by PBF when he "rushes in like crazy"afterall he has proven his chin of late. is it not conceivable that rick might be able to walk through Floyds speedy fists and get to the inside where he can hurt PBF big??
(getting cut in the process may be a different matter but if we work on the assumption that cuts will definitely play a part then we may as well not bother fighting!!)
anyway, ill say no more on the matter as im bored of it already! :) (until the fights on anyway!!

Trouble is though, Floyd isn't a once punch artist like Tszyu, who tried to nail Ricky with the bif right and take him down. He will be drilling Hatton on the way in with several crisp shots.taaf wrote:how do ya! new poster here im afraid.

Whilst Hatton might be able to take a few without being hurt, nobody can take combination after combination wihtout at least becoming discouraged.
My guess is that Floyd might well put Hatton on the back foot and take him apart.
However. A lot would depend on referee. Floyd will NEVER fight Ricky in Manchester, he knows that the ref would allow Hatton away with murder.
A strict ref who doesn't allow holding, pushing, shoving and bullrushing your opponent would be very bad news for Hatton, as he would have to try and find proper openings.
All this bollocks about Castillo giving Floyd a beating is nonsese.

If Hatton does what he did with Tszyu then Floyd won't have enough distance to do much with his shots. Gatti should of kept Floyd on the ropes more as Floyd wouldn't fight there and just slipped out of the way instead, Hatton should do that as he is a pressure fighter.
All I see in FLoyd is good handspeed and would rather fights guys who won't do much so he can talk to the commentators instead about whats their favourite football team.
Even when Sharmba did manage a few punches could see Floyd didn't like them, imagine what Hatton's constant pressure would do.
BBC said Floyd suggested he would only fight Ricky in Manchester for 20 mill!
Plus how will Floyd keep Hatton off him like that? Maussa and Tszyu couldn't!

The way I see the fight going.
Hatton takes a couple of early rounds as he comes out at a frantic pace and Mayweather sits back to see what Hatton has to offer. At about the 3rd Mayweather starts to take over and starts to work out Hattons style. Mayweather will dominate a large portion of the fight from here and seem to be able to hit Hatton at will. Around the middle rounds Hatton will resort to roughing up tactics and probably receive a couple of warnings and succeed in taking Mayweather out of his gameplan for at least a couple of rounds. All through the fight when Hatton manages to get in range he will be slipping in body shots to slow Mayweather down and around the 9th Hatton will start to be able to back a tired Mayweather up into the ropes and it will become more of a toe to toe affair. Both men will hear the final bell and Mayweather will take a very close UD.

Mayweather cannot under any circumtsances sit back and see what Hatton has to offer - If he does that, he will get knocked out.
If there is one person capable of roughing Mayweather and getting inside to break him down it's Hatton - I think Mayweather has to move, move and then move some more. If he resorts to standing toe to toe or lying on the ropes (which he likes to do) then he will get beaten.
Overall I fancy Mayweather, he's so slick when he wants to be, but he will need his A game that's for sure.

Totally different, Tszyu was standing there feet planted waiting for Ricky to charge in thinking he could take him out with one big shot, the gameplan would have to be different for Floyd who would be moving backwards whilst throwing crisp combinations with very underated power. I agree with James if Floyd can stop Hatton from coming foward applying educated pressure, not just charging in but actually bobbing and weaving, then he wins the fight. If Hatton can force Mayweather to the ropes without taking too many shots in the process then I feel he may wear Floyd down late.If Hatton does what he did with Tszyu then Floyd won't have enough distance to do much with his shots
Facinating fight to which I think Mayweather has the edge
For a hefty portion at he end of teh fight Tszyu's feet were planted because he was utterly knackered. hatton's opportunity comes with pressure. I don't see Hatton being stopped, unless on cuts, and I think it's unlikely that Mayweather won't hear the final bell, in which case it'll be down to whether the judges go for the volume of Hatton over the crisper work of Mayweather.
I can see this being a slightly better version of Wright - Soliman.
I can see this being a slightly better version of Wright - Soliman.
Yes - Hatton beating PBF would probably be the best ever win by a British fighter. When was the last time a British fighter beat the then undoubted P4P number one - I would never knock Turpin or Honeygan's wonderful achievements but were SRR and Curry the P4P No. 1's at the time?
Still think PBF has too much speed but Hatton is in with a real chance if it turns out PBF can't take the pressure at 140
IT is the best potential match-up in the whole sport right now.

Can Floyd keep moving for 3 minutes a round for 12 whole rounds keeping a guy like Hatton back! Hatton just keeps moving!Lenny Albert wrote:Totally different, Tszyu was standing there feet planted waiting for Ricky to charge in thinking he could take him out with one big shot, the gameplan would have to be different for Floyd who would be moving backwards whilst throwing crisp combinations with very underated power. Don't think Floyd will be able to keep moving for 12 rounds without getting tired so he might even decide to trade.
Underated power? I think Sharmba was hurt by that body shot in the 6th, it wasn't enough to knock him down.
Best opponents Floyd has fought is Castillo and Corrales and they were at Super Feather and Lightweight! Plus Corrales has no chin.
Its no easy task trying to figure out how this fight will go. Mayweather has never fought anyone as big, powerfull and relentless as Hatton. But Hatton has never fought anyone as slick as Mayeather.
Hattons going to get hit, thats for sure. I dont doubt Hattons chin, but he was definate'ly hurt twice by Magee and realised the potential danger that lay ahead, he then elected to stand off and box, if he tries that with Floyd he's done. No matter what, Hatton must keep comming forward and pressuring Mayweather, he must take everything Mayweather dishes out in order to get his own shots off. Thats it in a nutshell for Hatton, constant constant pressure.

id just lilke to add if mayweather puisses about like he did against corley when he was visibly hurt Hatotn wont let him off the hook like that and if corley can hurt him then you know hatton can.
one of PBF's biggest probelms is he belives his own press yes he is an excellent fighter but how many excellent fighters have been un done by thuier arrogant complacency. (naz being a case in point)
this is one place that hatton has a massive advantage. And theres nothing that floyd can do about it other than make sure he concentrates on his fighting not his mouth and Im not so sure he knows how to do that anymore.
we are all talking aobut the physical side of it this fight will be won mentally as much as anyhting else.

Mayweather spars 15 rounds routinely and trains like a demon, I believe he spars 4 minute rounds as well. Those who have seen him train (staff at maxboxing) said they have never seen anyone train as hard), so I think it's fair to say that if he has to, Floyd can hack the pace.
How well will Hatton cope with being drilled with combinations on the way in, he doesn't have much head movement and Floyds hands are a lot quicker.
The comparison was made by Billy Graham of Duran v Leonard, but Duran's inside fighting was vastly superior to Hatton's as was his defence. Duran was very hard to tag with a clean shot, and he worked his way inside using the jab and movement of shoulders and head, something Hatton doesn't do much.
Yes, Hatton's pressure will be a problem for Floyd, but unlike many people Hatton has fought it won't be one way traffic. Anyone who thinks Floyd is going to just backpedal furiously and fire nothing back is deluded.
I am not saying Hatton cannot win, but he will need to fight a different fight to the Tszyu win and a more focussed performance than he has produced to date. His best performance for me so far was against Tackie, but Tackie was a durable guy with limited skills and no plan B, Floyd is a different animal altogether.

You do realise Mayweather spars 15miniute rounds? But he'll probably take a round off here and there - his defense and Hattons lack of 1 punch KO power (no he isn't landing a leaping left hook that he landed on Maussa on PBF in a million years) will let him get away with that. If he exchanges he may come off better - he'll beat Hatton to the punch and his shots hurt. His power is pretty close to Hattons imo.Max Molyneux wrote:Can Floyd keep moving for 3 minutes a round for 12 whole rounds keeping a guy like Hatton back! Hattons chance in this fight is continually going to the body with attack after attack while closing the gap and cutting off the corners. PBFs wants to keep the fight on the outside Hatton wants to keep it inside - its a battle of the feet.

What proof is there that he spars 15 minute rounds? What Sparring partner would want to take him for 15 minutes a round.
No way can he take rounds off like with Brusseles Hatton would make him pay for it.
Mayweathers shots are really fast but trading with Hatton will be hard as Hatton's the naturally stronger fighter and Floyd doesn't have one punch Ko power either.
Plus I didn't say he'd do that leaping punch on Maussa who was really tall for Hatton so no wonder he did that.
Floyd's feet will tire eventually trying to constantly keep Hatton on the outside as Hatton won't stop.
Plus this will be Floyd's step up at Light welter or welter.

Ricky would have to be at his absolute roughest to beat Mayweather, and I still don't think he score with enough clean shots to take a decision.
Still you've really got to respect Hatton. I mean, the lad was never going to be the next Sugar Ray, so what's the next best thing he can do? Only become the most relentless motherfucker on the planet that's what. He pours it on with a ferocity that no other fighter can match, to do that and maintain a sound technique takes something truly special. Hats off to him.

I KNOW floyd spars 15 four minute rounds, because Doug Fischer has been to his training camp and watched him there and reported on it, whether you want to believe it or not, Mayweather trainss extremely hard.
Floyd has already fought sharmba Mitchell at Welterweight....
I don't think there is much difference in their punch power personally, Hatton's best work has always been to the body, his power with head shots really is nothing special. Yes he will be physically stronger, but that counts for little if he cannot get close to Mayweather.
It will be just as draining for Hatton to chase after mayweather getting hit in return for 12 rounds as it will Mayweather moving around peppering him.
Mayweather dealt with Castillo (who is really a light welterweight) for 12 rounds twice without coming close to getting stopped, and I think Castillo punches harder than Hatton too.

I only didn't believe it because he said Floyd spars for 15 minutes a round. Hatton wll be tired as well but lets see how FLoyds stamina is when he finally steps up in these divisions and the fact that you would look great against Gatti, Mitchell and Brusseles now that their past it.
Hell because it's FLoyd he can talk to the commentators while still beating on them.
