If FW had the sky contract/money would the big domestic fights be getting made?
This is not meant to be a let's bash Hearn thread necessarily - just wanted to get the general consensus from the guys on here.
I'm talking about right now- not what lead us to the current position with Eddie as he's done a great job with Brook and Froch for example. I mean if matchroom packed boxing in today and handed all he contracts to sky who then called in FW and told him to pick up the batton...
So basically where talking about
Frampton - Quigg
Degale V Groves IBF title (let's say Dirrell withdraw)
Khan - Brook
I would say that Frank would get the business done with the first two fights but wouldn't able able to get khan/ Brook signed because of Al
Haymon etc...opinions?

I think that Wazza put a load of dross on originally when he had the Sky platform (admitedly some good bills but far from all of them) & he is only now putting better fights on because he is behind Hearn in the biggest promoter stakes & trying to get back to where he was.
Re: If FW had the sky contract/money would the big domestic fights be getting made?
Not so sure tbh. When Warren has a talent he is pretty cautious how he matches them. Brook was in danger of going stale under his guidance. To his credit he matched DeGale and Groves early in their careers and he has matched BJS pretty tough.
Re: If FW had the sky contract/money would the big domestic fights be getting made?
I imagine that it takes a pretty canny businessman to be a successful boxing promoter and if any of the men making a living promoting shows were gifted a monopoly position on a big platform they'd milk it for every cent and view it as an act of God windfall.
Re: If FW had the sky contract/money would the big domestic fights be getting made?
There is no track record to support he would do anything different to Hearn, in fact in the days when he DID have the money the big domestic fights were not getting made.
In addition, why do we assume he does not have the money now. Yes, allegedly is not as big a platform, but he has access to pretty much an unlimited network (e.g. not competing with other sports etc) and he is backed by a millionaire backer. Who knows how much financial support Mr Rahman Steel is giving to make allegedly nation work.... it might be feeble but it could also be more than Hearn.
Whilst I am no advocate of PPV, I do feel Eddie has had a bit of a tough time in terms of his domestic bouts on this forum. Had Gethin vs Coyle been on allegedly promoted by Queensbury people would have been praising a 50:50 match up.... instead it was arguably one of the most criticised cards of the year on this forum.
I do think Warren has changed his model in recent months/years and I applaud him for that. A few years ago there is no way Eubank vs Saunders would have been made.... but in saying that I don't think domestically Eddie's cards are THAT much behind them.... just the PPV angle I do not like.

Re: If FW had the sky contract/money would the big domestic fights be getting made?
I think it would be pretty similar to be honest. Agree with the previous post though, it's Matchroom trying to get everything on PPV that annoys me. I'm not sure we had this many 'stacked' cards on PPV with Frank - but he did have his frustrations with gimme matchmaking.
Re: If FW had the sky contract/money would the big domestic fights be getting made?
The PPV thing is not a minor issue for me to be honest and these stacked cards are just a bit too much for me, I used to be pretty fanatical about the sport and would have sat for 5 or 6 hours but I'm happy now with 2 or 3 well matched bouts on a show - many of the other bouts shown are not worthy of being on television . With the PPV situation I feel a bit cheated, the bouts ought to have been on a normal SKY Sports show -paying twice isn't the done thing and I feel there is some emotional manipulation as well, with Eddie saying that the boxers are pocketing life changing money from PPV.
Re: If FW had the sky contract/money would the big domestic fights be getting made?
Agree on the PPV. I think the "stacked" cards being a problem is more to do with the Sky production. There are loads of fights on allegedly that are worse or not TV worthy really - but its not the constant hype before every fight and the commercial between rounds. You get a lot more boxing for 4 hours on allegedly than Sky.palooka wrote:The PPV thing is not a minor issue for me to be honest and these stacked cards are just a bit too much for me, I used to be pretty fanatical about the sport and would have sat for 5 or 6 hours but I'm happy now with 2 or 3 well matched bouts on a show - many of the other bouts shown are not worthy of being on television . What annoys me most about the PPV, almost as much as the paying, is the contradictions Eddie makes. He publically says that Clev vs Bellew 2 did not work as a PPV and he should reconsider his PPV model. Then about 6 months later, first really decent British card - back as a PPV.
I think the Sky hype is also impacting on viewers perceptions. Coyle vs Campbell is a decent fight.... if it would have got the allegedly treatment it is comparable to Flanagan vs Ormond (which was very well received in anticipation). However, its being hyped till heaven and back and it seems like Eddie/Sky are making more of it than what it is...... which is off putting to the fans.

u seriously believe he'd be prepared to take his man off sky sports.Manchester Hitman wrote:I would say that Frank would get the business done with the first two fights but wouldn't able able to get khan/ Brook signed because of Al

he was worse than hearn in that respect.
no way would he take quigg over to itv.
i don't think hearn will either (unless team frampton can really deliver financially).
but least he's more open to it than warren ever would have been.

When are people going to realise all Promoters piss in the same pot.
Wazza would handle business no different to Eddie - as much as Eddie would handle business exactly the same as Wazza if he was no2 with no Sky deal.

Re: If FW had the sky contract/money would the big domestic fights be getting made?
Some great feedback on the thread but I think a few maybe not clear totally what I was getting at.
forget BN and PPV etc and what's happened in the past when Frank was on sky etc.
The scenario is this - Matchroom quit the boxing game tomorow..Adam smith/sky hand over the reins to Warren with the remit of making the big fights I mentioned previously this year-would Warren be able to do what Hearn hasn't managed and get the fights agreed?

Re: If FW had the sky contract/money would the big domestic fights be getting made?
No and that is based on the past. The only one is a maybe would be Groves vs Degale - and that is based on Groves being promoted by promoters who also work with Sky..... However, I'm confident Eddie will deliver Groves vs Degale post Dirrell.
Warren has always struggled in delivering the fantastic cross promoted big fights.... hell he even did not deliver on a natural big fight that he was in charge of the two fighters - Hatton vs Witter.
Yes, he has worked well with Henessey and that's thanks to his allegedly platform - but to do it on Sky might be very different. Would sky want to work with Hennessey again?
In saying that, McGuigan and Warren are close friends so perhaps their friendship would make an interesting business deal - but in your example Manchester Hitman I think the important thing is not just the promoter but the TV network. If Sky gave Warren the same contract as Eddie Hearn then it might be very difficult to work with other promoters.

I'm no eddie hearn fan but i would rather he had the exclusive sky deal than warren.
