Jimmy Carter: Why he's not in the IBHF???

Post by elmersalsa »

Why this 3-time lightweight world champion is not in the hall of fame???

I see his record and he fought and beat a lot of good quality people.

He's the first lightweight in history to be champion 3 times in that weight class.

Some comments about him are welcome.

Records can be deceiving. Why? Just look at John Ruiz record. Seventy-five years from now people will be asking the same question. WBA heavy weight champion and he defeated the great Holyfield, and decent fighters like Rahman and, Golota, but we all know the reality. In regards to Carter I don’t know too much about him.

I'm more interested to know why Rodrigo Valdez isn't in the IBHOF, when you have guys like Randolph Turpin in there.

Jimmy Carter was inducted into the IBHOF in 2000.
I've seen some film on Carter. Wheter or not he was just a hot & cold fighter or actually looked bad on purpose in some fights, I don't know. But I have seen him look very solid in some fights, especially in the Paddy DeMarco rematch.
There's no doubt he was a good fighter when he wanted to be and is probably worthy of his HOF status, but I still say that no other fighter should be incuted until they give Holman Williams, Lloyd Marshall and Cocoa Kid their due.

Technically are Italians Latin?

If so the above honour belongs to Primo Carnera.

I think it's more of a case that John Ruiz is just bad to watch and not just a bad figther.
I'm not saying he is a good heavyweight, but he is better than he is made out to be. Looking at his record, he has more wins against top 10 fighters than, say, Vitali Klitchko. Per achievements, John Ruiz is a better fighter than Vitali. History books will reflect that fact 50-100 years from now.
