??????????????? Did you only start watching froch around the groves fight???ClivePatrickLyons wrote:Froch would be a great wicket keeper in the local cricket team he'd catch plenty![]()

Re: Froch upsets Nigel Benn
I love Benn, he's one of my favourite fighters, but I can't see him beating Froch. I don't know why but I see Froch toughing out the first six, extending a lead and taking a decision.

Re: Froch upsets Nigel Benn
Benn's balance and timing looked off after the McClellan fight, part of it perhaps age, but I think that fight took a lot out of Benn, he took a terrific shelling early on, and more of the same mid rounds - it was a brutal fight - and Benn really took a lot of shots, from an extremely heavy handed opponent.manno wrote:I went to quite a few of Benns fights and in particular was lucky enough to be at the G man fight. After that fight I thought it should have been poo or bust for nigel...states v either jones or toney then retire. Nigel Benn owes nobody anything reguarding the payin public but some of his peformances post G man were very poor. Froch stops a staggering, still on his feet benn Iin 8rounds but not until nige has whistled some boomin right hands over to have him swayin like a tree in the wind. Terrific matchup.

hmm. Froch has to be perfect for four or five rounds - such was Eubank in his first fight with Nigel. I don't see Froch not making a clumsy mistake or two. If he gets hit by Benn early - such as he did versus Groves, I think Benn finishes him - Granite chin an' all!

Re: Froch upsets Nigel Benn
Could he throw one like Groves? Most of his wins at top level were an accumulation of punches.
Re: Froch upsets Nigel Benn
If he could get Iran Barkley out in the first round he could do the same to Froch, Iran had shown a serious beard v Hearns and Benn didn't give him a second.

3 knockdown rule won that fight. Barkley looked sturdier with each knockdown!palooka wrote:If he could get Iran Barkley out in the first round he could do the same to Froch, Iran had shown a serious beard v Hearns and Benn didn't give him a second.
Re: Froch upsets Nigel Benn
He did have a bit of luck and he went out and steamed him, I think I remember reading that he did it because he was scared of Barkley.

Not sure. It was the ghost of Barkley. Wasn't he half blind? A very different proposition to a froch firing on all cylinders.palooka wrote:If he could get Iran Barkley out in the first round he could do the same to Froch, Iran had shown a serious beard v Hearns and Benn didn't give him a second.
Re: Froch upsets Nigel Benn
Iran weren't in the best of shape but after losing to Benn he smashed Van Horn and beat Hearns again, I'd think Froch would beat Van Horn but don't think he'd beat Tommy.
Re: Froch upsets Nigel Benn
First off I'd pick froch over benn mid/late rd ko BUT Benn's best chance would be 1st rd attack early stoppage ,froch isn't in the hagler league chin wise Taylor dropped him groves had him out and Kessler hurt froch I wouldn't be completely shocked if benn won in the first froch is hardly hard to hitstevieb_8006 wrote:Not sure. Froch isn't a huge punching destroyer. The prime Benn, the smart one, could box and paced himself a bit better. Not exactly out of the question that this one goes the distance.

True. Good points. I have to say if that's benns best chance it would be a long night for him.stevedoc wrote:First off I'd pick froch over benn mid/late rd ko BUT Benn's best chance would be 1st rd attack early stoppage ,froch isn't in the hagler league chin wise Taylor dropped him groves had him out and Kessler hurt froch I wouldn't be completely shocked if benn won in the first froch is hardly hard to hitstevieb_8006 wrote:Not sure. Froch's stride forward, feed-me-punches while I try clobber you style would be a disaster versus Nigel Benn. I'd pick Benn by KO in the first half.

If you are using a "prime Benn" then you must also use a "prime Froch".lillywhite14 wrote:Froch isn't a huge punching destroyer. The prime Benn, the smart one, could box and paced himself a bit better. Not exactly out of the question that this one goes the distance.
Either way, I can't make my mind up !

different promoters.Eddy wrote:We're never going to know who would've won but to me, Nigel Benn is more of a boxing hero then Froch will ever be. As for Benn not fighting RJJ and Toney, I always got the feeling it was them that didn't want to know. The exicitement Eubank & Benn brought to British boxing in the 90's has not been reached since IMO. Froch/Degale/Groves, might have talent but they're not characters!
different networks.
particularly in roy jones case.
benn was warren/king/showtime.
jones was arum/HBO.
toney boxed on HBO.
calzaghe had similar problems.
warren/showtime vs jones/hopkins/HBO.

Despite this intellectual meeting of the minds, most boxing fans would concede Tommy Hearns was still a dangerous, world class light heavy when Iran Barkley beat him a second time.

Re: Froch upsets Nigel Benn
Have you guys seen Benn on the pads recently with Hatton?
He's looking very strong/fast for a 51 year old. Good to see a retired champ looking after himself...hell, could be forgiven for thinking he was planning a comeback lol
