It has been proven that people with skin that happens to be white are usually forgiven for incidents like these whereas when people who happen to have darker skin are usually chastised their entire career for any minor infraction.
There will be a turning of the cheek on this one, no huge outcry like when Floyd went on his racist tirade about Manny, this will be swept under the rug and no one will ever bring it up against Kovalev again.
stevedoc wrote:I don't get it what has a chimps head got to do with Stevenson being Canadian...
Ok here is the deal: Stevenson is black (not an American) but his skin color is black and racist white people invented the derogatory term of calling black people "monkeys".
Do you get it now??
There isn't any monkeys it's a chimps head as a science teacher I thought you would of know that
I call people monkeys all the time. Mainly people from northern England. And, let's be honest, most Northerners are monkeyish. In their looks and behaviour.
Saying someone looks like a certain animal isn't racist.

He's Welsh, which I think is near Africa. Not sure.
There was a woman at the gym today who looked like a horse. She probably thought I have a rat like face. We were both guilty of racism.

So now you are going to use Science to justify someone being a racist a--hole? Sure that explains it, the difference between one being a monkey and one being a chimpanzee.....if he said Primate, would that have made you happier?

Humans did not evolve from monkeys and nor did they evolve from apes. Humans only share a remote common ancestor with modern apes.
It’s unreasonable for you to attempt to justify the use of racial stereotypes using an ignorant misconception that bears no relevance to reality!
..I'm not a science teacher still will be thankful if you explain the difference between evolving from...and sharing a common ancestor?

Why don't you go to work tomorrow and throw a "monkey" jibe towards a black individual, who could either be a client or one of your colleagues that you don't know very well... and then try to justify your "harmless banter" by articulating your own ignorant theory about human evolution?
What do you think would happen?
...why not just answer my question first?...btw, in my culture we call someone a "monkey" irrespective of race, of course as I pointed out above Kovalev should be much more careful living in a free world ...
If I'm sitting with two Northern mates - one white & one black - having a beer, and I call them a 'couple of Northern monkeys' am I being racist, half racist or Northernerist?
I'm from the same taxonomic family of primates (called Hominidae) as chimpanzees, orangutans and gorillas. We're a branch of Old World tailless anthropoid catarrhine primates.
I wouldn't want to be called a monkey though. I may be wrong, but I feel we apes are a step higher on the evolutionary ladder than monkeys.

We are much further down from any one else.
Humans are the biggest pest of all. We should be eradicated
Taansend wrote:Are monkeys and chimpanzees not the same thing then?
Technically they are. Humans are apes along with chimps, gorillas and so on. Apes are type of monkeys or simian primates as they call it scientifically. So it is wrong to say humans are descending from apes as they are apes. Human closest relatives are chimps with whom they share a common ancestor that lived around 10 million years ago.

I think they're probably both racist, but to what extent it's hard to say without knowing them better.
As for the shirt, there are certainly people who resemble apes (and if humans are apes then I mean non-human apes) more than most others and I'd consider Adonis one of them; there are many white people who this applies to as well, including a Canadian politician whose picture is below. However, Kovalev has a history of making questionable comments going back to at least 2013, which leads me to believe that he's racist regardless of what he meant by the tweet mentioned in the first post. These comments were made in Russian and of course certain words have different meanings in different languages and cultures, with a cursory search indicating that some terms which are considered racist in the US don't carry the same racist connotations in Russia, so what I say about Kovalev is largely based on his general tone when making those comments.
Couple of morons. Russia sounds like a place with a lot of nasty, racist thickos. Been told that and I've been watching that Reggie Yates programme on the bbc.

...do not always listen to what the others tell you, be it your buddies or local tv stations, make a trip there and judge for yourself...

Or all three?
And what they call you? A Southern fairy?
YES!!! And make jokes about me putting lemonade in my beer. I don't, I hasten to add.
