Floyd v Pacquiao referee
Floyd v Pacquiao referee
Just heard that Kenny Bayliss will be the 3rd man in the ring
Re: Floyd v Pacquiao referee
Poor choice if you ask me.
He's the wrong fit for this one, and has pro-Mayweather and anti-Pacquiao history too (bad calls he has made in fights)

i agree, but i think it was always going to be him. Team Pac seemingly have given up everything at the table for this fight. I guess we all knew he would have to in order to make this fight happen.
Whats your view on the judges that have been announced?

Better than Joe "Remember - I'm unfair & I'm Infirm" Cortez.
He of the, "You're not allowed to punch Floyd Mayweather!"
Can anyone refresh me on Kenny Bayliss? When I think of the crop of Vegas referees they all seem tools designed to mangle boxing contests. The days of Mills Lane and Mitch Halpern are long gone. Richard Steele was a pioneer in many ways.

I was hoping for Tony Weekes, but Bayliss is a very good ref imo.
Smoger would have been fun tho

Also he called that blatant push by Mosely a knockdown against Pacquiao in their fight towards the last few rounds. He was 4 ft away and missed what the entire audience could easily see. Thankfully 2 of the judges still scored the round to Pacman and obviously ignored him.
He's by no means a mean-spirited, bald bastard like Cortez, but he has a few of the same traits for gimmicky sayings and getting involved.
"Obey what I say ! "

Bayliss is the ref that stopped Khan in the Garcia fight while wearing a camera on his head.Tuan_Jim wrote: Can anyone refresh me on Kenny Bayliss? Makes you wonder whether they are extremely confident in winning or are desperate for the cash after Manny's trouble with the US taxman95gerog wrote:G0mez wrote:Poor choice if you ask me.

Although Kenny Bayliss is a very good referee, he lives in Vegas, 2 of the judges live in Vegas, the 3rd lives in the state of Nevada, how can this be trully impartial when one of the boxers lives in Vegas and the other is from the Philippines!
I am not saying any corruption is involved, but seen as this is the richest fight in history, should the governing bodies not asked for impartial officials?

With the world watching, boxing has once again contrived to arrange a fight with floor-to-ceiling corruption.
Is there a bet you can place simply for "huge controversy"?

As the fight is held in the state of Nevada, then the judges are drawn from the roster of Nevada referee's - this is the same for other jurisdictions. There's nothing irregular or unusual about this.Floatlikeabutterfly wrote:Although Kenny Bayliss is a very good referee, he lives in Vegas, 2 of the judges live in Vegas, the 3rd lives in the state of Nevada, how can this be trully impartial when one of the boxers lives in Vegas and the other is from the Philippines!

It's not like Manny has never won a fight staged in Vegas is it?
I think it is rather silly to insinuate that the referee's who will have judged countless world title fights in Vegas, are going to be naturally pro Floyd.

I think you are missing what I wrote. This is a mega fight, that the general public, not just nessessary boxing fans will be taking great interest in. If there is any controversial decision boxing will shoot itself in the foot, and people will say that boxing is corrupt.
We had a fight in our country last year between 2 british fighters, Froch - Groves with a neurtral referee! We havine many world title fights in the BBBofC's jurisdiction were we have non BBBofC referees taking charge. Why in Nevada are they allowed to say that you must be registered with the Nevada state athletic commission, to referee in Vegas!

By other jurisdictions, I meant other athletic commissions in the U.S - unlike the U.K - in the U.S, I believe the referee's must be registered with the Nevada state athletic commission - I believe this still to be the case. I'm not aware of any precedent where they've selected judges not from Nevada state.Floatlikeabutterfly wrote:jamesmcdonnell wrote:As the fight is held in the state of Nevada, then the judges are drawn from the roster of Nevada referee's - this is the same for other jurisdictions. The UK has a single governing body, the U.S does not. You are not comparing like for like.

There are far more insinuations of corruption than there are instances. They are very few and far between.
The only reason vegas gets highlighted, is that they stage the highest profile fights.

I'd argue we get more dodgy decisions in the UK than I've seen in Vegas (certainly in recent years) and Germany is even worse than us.Tuan_Jim wrote:I didn't realise you were new to boxing, James.jamesmcdonnell wrote: I think it is rather silly to insinuate that the referee's who will have judged countless world title fights in Vegas, are going to be naturally pro Floyd.

If I was an 'away' fighter, which Manny is for this one, I'd be confident of getting a fair crack in Vegas.

I agree, to most intents and purposes, I'd consider Vegas a neutral venue for these two fighters, Vegas is kind of like the Wembley Stadium of boxing - although it is American, it's not really any fighters house so to speak - it's a big fight town, and both are big time fighters.Happy Slapper wrote:I'd argue we get more dodgy decisions in the UK than I've seen in Vegas (certainly in recent years) and Germany is even worse than us.Tuan_Jim wrote:I didn't realise you were new to boxing, James.jamesmcdonnell wrote: I think it is rather silly to insinuate that the referee's who will have judged countless world title fights in Vegas, are going to be naturally pro Floyd.

If anything, Vegas judges tend to favour the more aggressive fighter, so I'd say Pacquaio has a very good chance of causing the upset if he's competitive throughout.
Also, for the conspiracy theorists, if Mayweather is the favourite, then the bookmakers could well do with him losing, - if the fix was going to go any way, I'd say it would be away from Mayweather.
Re: Floyd v Pacquiao referee
Personally i think any corruption would more likely fall in Pacquiao's favour.
If Mayweather wins convincingly on the cards then people wouldnt be interested in a rematch...
If Mayweather wins a dodgy decision then Mayweather may not be interested in a rematch...
If Pacquiao wins a dodgy decision then he would most likely give Floyd the rematch and all the money rolls in again.
Money makes people more corrupt than anything else and the money involved here is ridiculous. The greedy guys pulling the strings would love a second payday of this scale.
Would I be surprised to see Mayweather win a dodgy decision... Yes

Yep agreed - a the only thing against that, is that the gambling community in SE asia is vast, and a pacman win could lost the bookmakers a lot of money - I'm not sure what the odds are currently, but they will shorten considerably as the fight approachesEmmseegee wrote:Personally i think any corruption would more likely fall in Pacquiao's favour.

Re: Floyd v Pacquiao referee
Maybe the corruption goes the other way (if it exists) - and Pacquiao is the benefactor.
The powers within the sport of boxing, do not like fighters leaving with their record intact, they like the 'torch' to be passed to the next young star, so their business can continue as usual.
Pacquiao could afford them another few years of service, before someone else is primed to send him into retirement.
Strategists are already putting plans together for Al Haymon in readiness for Floyd's retirement.
