Well I suppose he's more chance of capturing this "world title" than winning the British title.

I would have thought he has a better chance against most British boxers than against Wlad Klitschko.ShadrachSimmo wrote:Well I suppose he's more chance of capturing this "world title" than winning the British title.

How so? He hasn't fought anyone with a pulse yet. Gilmour must have had his meds mixed up again!leejonesjnr wrote:I would have thought he has a better chance against most British boxers than against Wlad Klitschko.ShadrachSimmo wrote:Well I suppose he's more chance of capturing this "world title" than winning the British title.

You need that explaining?Stuarty30 wrote:How so? He hasn't fought anyone with a pulse yet. Okay if I must - Wlad Klitschko is certainly much better than most British boxers, hence more difficult to beat.

agree with your point lee.
I wonder though if they are counting on Wlad vacating if Cornish becomes mandatory as it might be seen as too small a fight, or maybe paid step aside money

Sorry Lee I read your post wrong. No I don't need that explaining. I personally think he is a bit of a lump of wood but good luck to him.

Re: Cornish to be world champion within a year....
I was thinking that myself. Wlad has had that particular title for nearly ten years though and I'm not sure how many of the number one contenders he's fought have went through the IBO route? Cornish has to step it up before Gilmour starts making these noises. He was pencilled in to fight Sexton then Lewinson after Sexton withdrew to be fair but none of them happened. These are the type of guys he has to be fighting so we can see where he's at. I know he didn't have much on an amateur background so maybe that's why they are taking their time?Looking On wrote:agree with your point lee.

Re: Cornish to be world champion within a year....
If he can get a home crowd in to watch him beat up Csala (I fully expect him to beat the Hungarian), why not? Csala is a step up from his other opponents, and if defending the IBO International means a mandatory shot at a recognised belt (and as long as WK carries the IBO Heavyweight belt into the ring, it is a respected title), good on him.
Will mention that the IBO International title has never been fought for before in heavyweight. Seems it goes International --> Intercontinental --> World.

I don't think he belongs at world level either but I wish any boxer the best of luck getting what they can with the tools they have.

Yeah likewise. I have really only seen the guy a couple of times to be honest but it was awful to watch. Maybe he has improved a bit?leejonesjnr wrote:No worries.Stuarty30 wrote:You need that explaining?

I doubt it is something that anyone will have to worry about anytime soon, but as we know Wlad doesn't vacate.Looking On wrote:agree with your point lee.

I can't see that fight ever coming off and in the time it could take Wlad likely retires and the IBO would be the least fought over title that he leaves behind so perhaps he will get to box for the vacant title?
Re: Cornish to be world champion within a year....
I imagine that the IBO, who are a bit lacking when it comes to respectable champions (GGG and Hekkie Budler apart), are just happy for Wladimir to be carrying the belt in and won't rock the boat by making him fight mandatories in his already packed schedule. Their Intercontinental Champion is Ustinov who wouldn't make a satisfactory opponent for Wlad.leejonesjnr wrote:I doubt it is something that anyone will have to worry about anytime soon, but as we know Wlad doesn't vacate.Looking On wrote:agree with your point lee.

According to the article, Cornish is fighting the hungarian lad for the IBO international title, then hopes to fight for the Intercontinental belt.Gnome wrote:I imagine that the IBO, who are a bit lacking when it comes to respectable champions (GGG and Hekkie Budler apart), are just happy for Wladimir to be carrying the belt in and won't rock the boat by making him fight mandatories in his already packed schedule. Wouldn't mind seeing him in with Ustinov.

Good luck to him but i don't think he can climb much higher than british contender.
Re: Cornish to be world champion within a year....
I don't think he'd even beat someone like Ian Lewison.

they need to build his name off some over the hill guys first eg. Sprott, Skelton, Toney, Gavern, Fraudley etc...
Re: Cornish to be world champion within a year....
And tommy oosthiezen and golovkin also own one.leejonesjnr wrote:Well..... laugh it up all you want, Wlad holds the IBO.
Boxers seem to appreciate the IBO a lot more than fans do
