Mayweather vs Pacquiao predictions

Post by ALI »

With less than a week to fight night its time to put your stake in the ground.

Who wins, Mayweather or Pacquiao, and how do you see the fight playing out?

I'm sorry, Ali - I didn't see your thread before I started the other one, if the powers that be would like to merge the threads the forum won't get clogged, apologies :salut:

No worries mate, it happens from time to time. A merge would be a good idea.

My prediction is as below:
Pacquiao to take 2 of the first 4 rounds
Mayweather to dominate from then onwards and win reasonably wide on the cards
Here comes my bold statement...
Mayweather to drop Pacquiao at some stage. (Not heavy, maybe off balance and dropped with a good clean counter)

Mayweather, points, quite easy and certainly comfortably by the end. For a supposed superfight he will be pretty dull as Floyd shuts him out

Anythings possible, but Mayweather rarely knocks anyone down anymore. Excluding the Ortiz fiasco, Marquez would be the last oponent he knocked down, and my dodgy memory tells me that one may have been more to do with Marquez being off balance than anything else.

Mayweather did not come close to stopping Maidana, with that form line, i cant see how he stops or drops Pacquiao.

I think Pacquiao will look to start fast as he knows Mayweather doesn't set a pace,I'm not sure he'll land much clean on Floyd but Maidana showed yo can win rounds by simply being busy,I've always believed if Mayweather was to lose a fight he'd be outworked rather than outboxed or KO'd,after a few rounds I expect Floyd to start trying to lead off more and more, his jab to the body won't be as effective with Manny obviously being a southpaw so I think the lead right is gonna be key along with the check left hook counters

I'm expecting a pretty drab fight if I'm honest but it'll be tenderhooks all the way through,Mayweather isn't gonna break tradition and take unnecessary chances,it'll just be his cleaner, sharper work that will win him this in the end,Floyd has to box at a higher pace than usual though to beat Manny because he won't get away with pot shoting against a busy fighter like Pacquiao

Mayweather by close deserved decision

Mayweather decking Pacquiao with a left hook counter as Manny comes steaming in sending him crashing forward wouldn't surprise me,if it were to hurt Pacquiao then that would shock me

I can see Pacquiao's relentless combinations and workrate getting him a points win, i can also envisage a Mayweather shutout. A close decision win for either guy is also a strong possibility IMO. I could easily sit on the fence for this fight.

If i had to put money on it i would play safe and say Pacquiao will have his moments, but Mayweather will pull away on the cards as the fight progresses. Mayweather wins on points 116 - 112.

Not wanting to spoil a good debate with hearsay, but I heard it said somewhere the powers that be would like Pacquiao to win a close decision as they would then get to cash in all over again with a rematch. With this fight generating in the region of 500 million dollars or more, could the possibilty to double that figure with a rematch tempt some high up brass to pull a few strings here and there, influence a judge maybe and get close rounds scored for Pacquiao? Who the fcuk knows, but with so much money at stake in an eventual rematch i'm not ruling out anything.

I share some of your cynicism, Ali and they could get a rematch without giving Floyd a loss - Maidana did well and put up a good scrap and got a rematch.

I'm expecting mayweather to win a clear decision but with one judge scoring it a draw, or possibly to Paquiao, as in the Canelo fight.

Seems to happen that way in a lot of big fights at the moment.

I think it will be wide for PBF but 1 judge will give it to PAC to make sure there is the big money rematch

I want Manny to win, but I've got a feeling he could get careless and walk on to a big shot. Floyd wins by KO in the 7th hope I'm wrong though.

This fight has a draw all over it. The Las Vegas economy and the tv companies want to milk the punters dry and they'll get this in may and again in september

I am with the above poster and have backed the draw, if they cannot instigate a draw they will make sure if it goes to the cards that there is some controversy, some reason to do it again I really feel that. They cannot of course do that if there is a knockout or a very one sided beatdown but I dont really see either of those things happening.

I don't think there will be any funny business but I do think Pac will just outwork Floyd without landing much clean in a scrappy fight. Floyd doesn't really throw punches any more. He won't be able to keep up with Pac's workrate IMO.

tend to agree wih this. im hoping that pac can get some sustained success and maybe force a stoppage late on.

Pacman will come out bobbing and bouncing, fists flying from funny angles, while a nervous Mayweather spends all night covering up and tossing the odd lead right back.

By the time Floyd goes for it the 12 rounds are up and Manny wins a workmanlike decision scored closer than it should be.

Pac's aggression sees him getting countered all night long for a comfortable Mayweather points decision

I'm favouring Pacquiao in this one.

I can see Floyd getting pushed back on the ropes and Manny scoring with regular flurries, especially from the off. Constant pressure from Manny is the key. Floyd will be tucking up with the shoulder-roll but getting caught by the southpaw style and the 'good-looking' flurries.

It's going the distance this one and both will have good moments but the crowd and Manny's flurries will catch the eye. I know it's a cliché, but Mayweather might look old late on in this fight.

It's a hard fight to bet on though because even if Manny wins clear, Mayweather's pull and the sheer money involved in a rematch may sway the judges. My fear is that no judge can be totally impartial to an event of this magnitude - meaning, if it goes to the cards, it's crazy-town IMO.

Jones jnr v Tarver 1 with Mayweather winning a close one that is disputed enough for a rematch
