Matthysse/Provodnikov FOTY so far?
Still very early in the year but what do you guys think?
The fight didnt turn out to be the all out brawl we all expected cuz one fighter was more skilled and used that to win in a more comfortable fashion. But thus far its still the top candidate for FOTY honors imo.
The fight still had that drama with Provodnikov constantly coming forward and always one punch away from changing the fight. Lucas was at his all time best as far as boxing and he had to be in order to stay away from danger yet exchanged beautifully when needed in becoming the first man to beat Provodnikov without controversy.

Re: Matthysse/Provodnikov FOTY so far?
IMO it was very good fight, nonstop action, but there was no dramatic moments like in Provo/Bradley fight

I thought there was some especially in the 11th when provo had his biggest rd.Cent0089 wrote:IMO it was very good fight, nonstop action, but there was no dramatic moments like in Provo/Bradley fight
But also drama in the possiblity that both huge punchers could have ended it at any moment.
Re: Matthysse/Provodnikov FOTY so far?
It was a decent fight and a good performance from Matthysse but it wasn't that great. There were no real fireworks, no real drama, you could argue it was a bit of a disappointment given what many were expecting.
If at the end of 2015 this is fight of the year it will have been a pretty poor year entertainment wise.

Re: Matthysse/Provodnikov FOTY so far?
It was far too one sided to be a real FOTY contender.
Provodnikov was pretty rubbish.

True fight was a bit more one sided than expected but still carried some suspense cuz of who the fighters are.Horse wrote:It was far too one sided to be a real FOTY contender.

I'd vote for both Kovalev v Pascal and Quillen v Lee over Matthysse v Provoglodyte, and that is just based on the fights I was able to catch up on this weekend. I saw none of them live.

Are you kidding me let me guess your Irish.
Only a fan of posing would call that FOTY.
Sorry cant ever take you serious if you really think Quillen v lee was better.
Wow!!!

Quillin vs Lee was better because it was competitive.kidbazooka1 wrote: Quillen v lee hahahahahaha

Provodnikov fought like a journeyman against Matthysse. He was pathetic. It was a big let down.
Re: Matthysse/Provodnikov FOTY so far?
Matthysse clearly won, but the fight became competitive in later rounds, and the outcome was unclear till very end, as Provo was pretty close to stopping Lucas.

That fight was horrible
Or maybe it wasn't a good for uou folks cuz the European guy lost.
If you take a poll of which fight was better(not here cuz we all know this is a euro board)I guarantee most will say lucas v Provodnikov easly.
My god talk about being bias.
Unbelievable.

I don't think he was.ikorolev wrote:as Provo was pretty close to stopping Lucas.
If he had thrown combinations he might have had a chance. Provodnikov fought like a bum.

Matthysse dominating a tough journeyman is not FOTY material.kidbazooka1 wrote:Wow

Like scared amateurs nothing happened in that fuucking fight.
How anyone can think that fight was better is just plain ridiculous or straight up bias.
You must be a fan of fighters only not a fan of boxing.
Simple as that.

Re: Matthysse/Provodnikov FOTY so far?
Ok so a fight that most ppl had 50/50 a guy who could very well have gotten the decision in his 3 close losses against Bradley, Algieri and Herrera and is universally thought of as the most dangerous man in his division is now just a journeyman in your opinion.Horse wrote:Matthysse dominating a tough journeyman is not FOTY material.kidbazooka1 wrote:Wow

Again Wow
Well if Provodnikov is a "journeyman" then Andy lee must be the the biggest joke in boxing history.
Re: Matthysse/Provodnikov FOTY so far?
Couldn't care less whether you take me seriously or not. I didn't call any of the fights FOTY. What I said is that I would vote for Quillin v Lee and Kovalev v Pascal over Matthysse v Provoglodyte. Matthysse fought adequately against a dude whose only defense is hoping people get tired pounding his face. Honestly, The Provoglodyte's act has worn thin. I appreciate his chin and heart but he is only regressing, and no matter how ridiculously granite like his chin is he will be suffering severe consequences for his method of defense before long.kidbazooka1 wrote:Quillen v lee hahahahahahaTanzio wrote:I'd vote for both Kovalev v Pascal and Quillen v Lee over Matthysse v Provoglodyte, and that is just based on the fights I was able to catch up on this weekend. I find it hard to understand boxing enthusiasts who do not appreciate Andy Lee at this point. No doubt, he is limited, but he has improved with age, optimized his skills and gifts, and his heart is unquestionable. Anyone who thinks that a person has to be Irish to appreciate what Lee has accomplished is weak in more ways than Andy could ever be.

Lee is still the same fighter that got ktfo by spoiled lil chavez jr.
Beating cans and getting a gift draw is something we all should celebrate?
Gtfo Lee is as basic and simple as they come yet your glorifying what hes done and downplaying what Matthysse did against the most dangerous guy at 140 who like i mentioned could very well have been undefeated prior to there fight.
Seriously your either one of the most delusional and bias posters here or to quote Roger mayweather you just don't know shiit about boxing.
Re: Matthysse/Provodnikov FOTY so far?
I simply did not see the drama in Matthysse v The Provoglodyte. If he didn't have the power to put away Ramming Speed and Algieri, he wasn't going to stop Matthysse, period. I like and respect The Provoglodyte, but he simply has found his level and is now regressing. He is certainly NOT the most dangerous man at 140. He is the least likely to get KTFO, but he is not the most dangerous.kidbazooka1 wrote:mTanzio wrote:Couldn't care less whether you take me seriously or not. I didn't call any of the fights FOTY. Lee v Quillin was in question the entire 12 rounds. Either fighter, limited as they are, could take out the other at any moment. The way Andy Lee got up from that first KD, clearly on queer street, managed to survive the round, then another (questionable) KD, then set Quillin up and nearly stop him was beautiful to watch.
I'm sure you would be entertained by watching The Provoglodyte beat himself with a bat for 12 rounds. No thank you.

Some peoples children. Smh
And what exactly did Lee and quiillin do after lee got dropped?
Shiit nothing just posed for 10 fuucking rds staring at each other afraid to let there hands go.
For Christ sakes any unbiased individual will tell you that fight was a straight dud.
I guess you would enjoy watching Lee change his underwear and socks if it was up to you.
Seriously go back and read what your typing and tell me you dont sound biased as fuuck saying lee v Quillen was better than Lucas v Provodnikov.
If you cant then there's really no helping you champ.
Your gonna believe what you want no matter how wrong you are.
And it may also just come down to you being such a fan of lee(for god knows what reason being the guy is a bum). And no matter what kinda fight Lee is in to you it will look like the most exciting shiit ever.
Which goes back to what i said.
Straight delusional.

You prefer watching someone absorb every punch thrown his way to the head for 12 rounds, non stop. I prefer to watch two boxers try to take each others' heads off while avoiding unnecessary punishment.kidbazooka1 wrote:Some peoples children. Smh

Difference of opinion. The big difference being that while I think that Quillin v Lee was the better fight, I respect both The Provoglodyte and Matthysse, though I believe both have seen their best days.

Well you do realize lee and Quillen just tried to avoid each other period.
No one in that fight looked to take any ones head off both guys were afraid which if you've been around boxing long enough should know that its the worst way s fighter can perform during a fight.
Lucas had to box perfectly for 12 rds in order to win in the fashion he did. While Provodnikov was always letting his hooks go coming forward looking for the ko.
But something tells me had that been Lee in that fight you would have called it the greatest performance ever.

You need to swat those little somethings in your head. Quillin nearly decapitated Lee, and Lee returned the favor. Both Matthysse and The Provoglodyte have fought stiffer competition overall than Quillin and Lee have. Mathysse has been one of my favorite fighters for years, with The Provoglodyte not far behind him. I have given Matthysse credit for doing what he had to do, which is never easy against The Provoglodyte. Ramming Speed fought foolishly v The Provoglodyte or it would not have been close. Algieri fought gallantly after being floored, not unlike Lee v Quillin (only without the pop), and Provo could not finish. That is not a knock on the Russian. He has accomplished amazing things coming from where he grew up.
You, otoh, refuse to give any credit to either Lee or Quillin. Yes, they were both wary following being knocked loopy by their opponent, but I saw no fear in either man's eyes. Where you interpret fear, I see respect. Quillin thought that he had the advantage on the cards and searched for the finishing blow while protecting his lead, mistakenly. Lee stood in and looked for the counters, while picking up not quite adequate points for the win in the later rounds.
Both Quillin and Lee were humble and respectful after the fight.
I don't think either fight was bad. I just think one was better than the other. You have shown zero respect for two of the four professional pugilists involved in the two fights we are discussing.
