Lightweights: Edwin "Chapo" Rosario vs Ray "Boom Boom" Mancini

This would have been a heck of a fight in the 80s. Why this fight never happened? I could see a great slugfest here. Who wins?

Really good match up. I'm surprised this hasn't been pondered before.

I think El Chapo has the skills to come out on top with a close decision. I think that their respective outcomes against Livingstone Bramble points to this, plus Rosario's strong showing against Camacho.

On the other hand, you could argue that Mancini was burned out by the time he fought Bramble, and he gave Arguello all he could handle. When Rosario went in against that level of competition he got beaten to a pulp.

Alot of variables to consider here, but I'm a huge fan of Rosario so I won't claim to be objective. But I see an exciting, toe to toe fight until half way, with Rosario pulling away in the last 4-5 rounds as he starts to time A slowing Mancini.

Witherspoon, this is a classic example of why this forum is like being out on the front porch having a conversation, and in the southern U.S. maybe chewin' on some straw. lol.

For every reason you gave, I see it just the opposite.

Not sure I'd put money on this match, partly because it's going to have passionate fans on both sides spewing out why their guy is going to win.

And I might be lured into putting too much of my wallet at risk.

But one thing's for sure....it's going to be a good fight.

I do think the oddsmakers would favor Rosario....but I don't think they'd be happy with the outcome.

It depends very much which Edwin turned up, the one who wrecked Bramble would just hit too hard for Ray, the one who turned his back on Ramirez and got churned by Chavez would get stopped late.

Prime-per-Prime, Ray would take it to Edwin, and though Edwin had power, I don't think he would be able to deter Ray.If Rosario had developed like he should've, it would be a late round stoppage win for him, but Mancini beats the championship version of Rosario by a close unanimous decision.

I like Ray here, but two very similar guys in a great matchup.

On the fence with this one. Would have been an entertaining fight from around 1982-1984. The lightweight division was pretty interesting during the early-mid 1980s. A lot of fairly even guys. Some fights materialized, some did not.

Always wondered if Mancini would have retired if he had got the decision in the 2nd Bramble fight.

Mancini was another throwback fighter.Trained hard and fought hard.He cut and swelled.He could be hurt.
But I think his strength tenacity heart and consistency would make a decisive win.
Rameriz beat Rosario. Mancini was as strong or stronger and consistent. Though just because fighter A beat B doesn't insure he will beat fighter C,Mancini did beat Rameriz.
I think Mancini would get low and pound away.
Maybe kind of like Chavez/Rosario.
I think Mancini wins.
