Thought I'd share this article I read. Good little piece and sad in parts. Ken was my dads hero as a boy and I got brought up with drunken stories of Ken Buchanan fights lol. My dad was lucky enough to meet his hero on a site where he was working as a joiner hanging doors a good few years back. Good luck to him. A true legend of Scottish and British boxing.

Re: Ken Buchanan
John Duddy is a strange choice to portray Buchanan in film.
He'll prob still have a better Scottish accent than Sean Connery though.

Good piece that I wish him all the best
Its funny, someone told me the story about Ali in the dressing room just a few weeks ago, the guy who told me's dad is a trainer who knows Buchanan and Ken had told him the story, apparently Ali kept jumping over to Ken's side of the room and saying "sorry Scotsman"

Re: Ken Buchanan
in Britain we dont appreciate how good Kenny was. one of the very best from these shores. good luck laddy
Re: Ken Buchanan
Got to say I was one of the ones who was saying that Ricky Burns could of been Scotland's greatest ever fighter. I totally overlooked Ken and that's a shame. He is one of the best boxers that The UK has ever produced yet he doesn't get the same recognition as others. I have went back read up about him and watched some of his fights he was a very skilful boxer with a huge heart. Scotland's Greatest ever boxer by a mile. I don't think we will ever get someone like that again. I hope he can beat his demon and enjoy the rest of his life.

I found the short audio recording pretty moving. Poor old Ken, he sounds like he is in a bad place.

Re: Ken Buchanan
I think Duddy looks like a young Buchanan slightly, hope he nails the accent, apparently it was John himself who made them put the low blow in the film as the director was just gonna ignore that and make it a legit KO
Re: Ken Buchanan
Looks reasonably similar and he was a boxer, so the fight scenes will be well done, accent might be a bit of a problem but I'm sure he can do a decent Scottish accent.handsofstone wrote:I think Duddy looks like a young Buchanan slightly, hope he nails the accent, apparently it was John himself who made them put the low blow in the film as the director was just gonna ignore that and make it a legit KO

Re: Ken Buchanan
I doubt a prime Kenny Buchanan would even hire Arthur or Burns as sparring partners.
I still laugh at the memory of Sky using a title statistics graphic to show how Ricky Burns was Scotland's 'greatest ever champion' - because of all the WBO defences he had accumulated. Jim Watt was polite enough to play along.

Did he manage The Church Elm pub in Dagenham Heathway years ago?
