Calzaghe says he walks around with 14st!

Post by Max Molyneux »

Man! The divisions under HW have to burn tons off!

Read that Lacy only walks around with 182 at the most so Boxing Monthly says in an interview, so he walks around with more than Lacy!

Says on the frontpage on the Video interview.

So maybe Harrison walks around with Middleweight weight before he makes Feather?

Either most of them go fat or drain nearly every fluid out of their body.

can well imagine it, on one of the maxboxing videos Hatton said he had to drop something like 44lb for Tszyu. over 3 f*cking stone!

Think James Toney did something like 4 stone for the Roy Jones fight.

Harrison also looks huge he must have to drop a ton, Cotto is another bad one. To be honest though it must only be (physical) freaks like Bernard Hopkins who walk around like 1lb over their fighting weight!

Hopkins looks like he lives off just plants, yet I read people saying he can bench 300lbs which don't look like on his build!

Joe does look thinner than 14 st but he is tall though.

The long awaited return of World Class big time boxing to ITV ( no, the DW Aud waltz didn't count ) but.....it's got a 2am start!

This will probably mean viewing figures are less than Sky prime time?

Needs a big buildup on ITV, with a Sunday AM lunchtime slot advertised heavily I think...

Bernard Hopkins stays in shape between fights, that's the difference. He is also a vegetarian, think maybe even vegan, much harder to put weight on when you ain't wolfing down burgers, kebabs etc.

I don't think he drinks either, unlike Calzaghe and Hatton.

Lacy is naturally much bigger built than Calzaghe, and if he only weighs 182, then one can only assume Calzaghe lets himself go between fights.

I walk around at 14 stone, I'm 6' 3" and medium build, and I know that if I was in shape I would be at least 7 lbs lighter.

Doesn't look like he lets himself go that much though like when they wore them judge suits.

Think most boxers burn about 2 stone off from the sound of things or is it exagerated how much they really do?

Think it was boxing monthly when talking to Arthur saying he walks with about 10 st 10lbs.

Right both have admitted to a love of drink. Also as we all know after a night out, drink encourages you to eat greasy unhealthy food at night.

On th eaverage night out Hatton probably condsumes 8 pints of Guinness at 400 calories per pint and a pie or too (2000 calories) - that's over 5,000 calories not including normal meals.

I think every extra 2000 calories above and beyond your daily requirement turns into 1lb of fat.

So, imagine how quick your going to balloon in weight if you consume 5000 extra calories a day.....

10lb a week, 40 lbs a month...

E - I reckon a pint of the black stuff has about 200 calories, but I agree with your generalk point: if you go on the lash when you are a boxer, you are making it difficult for yourself.

Funnily enough it was Duran who sprang to mind.

In the interview in Boxing Monthly Leonard said he'd heard after their first fight, that Duran was walking around at over 200 lbs....what a fat bastard!

Great fighter, but also a great big lardarse eater, drinker and womaniser....wasn't he partial to a bit of nosebag too?

The other problem with alchohol, is it slows the metabolic rate, and encourages fat deposit.

Oh yeah read that.

Says how he got Hagler to go with his plans too.

Big ego though says he has the rights to his fights so no one can see him lose.

Yes, he totally bolloxed hagler by making the fight 12 rounds in the biggest ring available. Hagler threw the fight away by trying to outbox Leonard just to prove a point for four rounds.

Over 15 rounds in a smaller ring he would have got to Leonard eventually and either dropped or stopped him.

More fool Hagler...played right into Leonard's hands.

Hagler was the better fighter at the weight, but Leonard was way smarter.

If Hagler was a good champion then why couldn't he have dropped him in 12 why need 15?

Someone on ESB says there was a rumour about Leonard fighting in unlicensed fights too before he fought Hagler.

has anyone see Micky Quinn on celebraty fit club?
He really shows what happens when you no longer train and can eat what you want, he's about 19st at the moment.

Good luck to him though, as i always like him when he was playing, he reminded me of a pub footballer, although he wasn't to bad in front of goal. 4 goals on his debut for Newcastle

Interesting Ghetto BHOPs doesn't come across as the veggie caring about animals sort.

Mayweather i another 1 in shape year round.

Mate unless your ripped at 14stone, you'd probably be fighting at around 147-154, I have abbs at 15stone but if I was boxing I'd look to get down to the 175 limit.

Lacy is very short, squat-like, and he will therefore look bigger than Calzaghe. Joe is tall, around 6'1, and it's well-known he struggles to make weight. I don't think it's all roses making weight for Jeff Lacy, either!

It's amazing how much weight one can put on, especially a fighter. Scott Harrison is massive for 126lbs. In his last fight, he put on an incredible 20lbs from the weigh-in to the fight - 146lbs come fight time.

I was wondering what the biggest weight gain ever is by a fighter from the weigh-in to the fight?

Anyone know?

I'm one of the those people who never puts on weight because of my weird metabolism. I've stayed consistently around the 10 stone mark for about the last 10 years.

What are you saying, Hagler WASN'T a good champion?

Leonard's style meant that it was hard to catch him in the early rounds. Hagler wasn't really a pressure fighter in the strictest sense, he was actually a big of a counterpuncher in many fights, and boxed behind the jab, advancing quite cautiously.

People think of Hagler as a brawler because of the Hearns fight, but that was because Hearns went hell for leather trying to knock the fornicate out of him, and Hagler was getting hit and early in the 1st hurt too.

Leonard was sparring consistently and training whilst retired, he had a lot of gym wars with top class fighters and stayed prepared knowing he would wait for the time when Hagler was slipping. He waited and waited until he saw Hagler's killer instict a bit dulled against Mugabi and then he called Marvin out.

Marvin is rumoured to have been a few years older than his stated age at the time too, some reckon he was 35 or even 37, he'd been professional since the age of 19, so was a pro for 14 years before fighting Leonard and had a lot more fights too. Rumour was that Hagler wasn't as hungry any more either, as he had made a lot of money by that time after the Hearns and Duran fights.

In his prime, only one guy went the distance with Hagler, that's some achievement if you ask me as a champion.

Hagler should have insisted on 15 rounds, but Leonard got to him with a mixture of greed and bloody mindedness. Hagler wanted not just to beat Leonard but to beat him on Leonard's own terms, which was a big mistake.

The ring was massive, wasn't it a 22 foot ring, or whatever the largest size is?

In a smaller ring, the fight would have been MUCH harder for Leonard to win and he well knew it.

Nah doubt it, when I went to the gym four times a week and quit alcohol I was still 13 stone 7. I weighed 13 stone by the time I was 16 and was pretty lean at that weight.

I'd be fighting at 168 or more, probably 175, at 14 stone 2 without much there's not much muscle packed on and not carrying too much excess weight. Working out regularly my weight would probably go down to 13 stone with really hard cardio training, so weight drained to make a limit I'd be about 12 Stone 7, and that would be a fornicating serious ask.

Anyway, this is all a moot point, I'm 34 and have no intention of doing any fighting, though I did consider doing that cityboxer stuff.

You should. KO Artist came down for a nosy today & Kilburn is promising to come over.

I reckon BHOPS is only veggie for the reason that it's the easiest way to cut the most fat out of your diet. Must be tough when your hearts not in it.

Funny coincidence. I was talking to the owner of Cityboxer about fat fighters. We were trying to guess which fighter, come retirement, would need to have a wall cut down and have to be lifted out of his home by crane first. Hatton or Toney.
By his own admission Toney checked into his training camp at 275 lbs.

That's just shy of 20 stone!

5'9, ex middleweight. The mind boggles. Can that really be true?
