Sad to hear. He was always a guy that interested me. He didn't have great talent; didn't have great hand speed, was not a hard hitter, not that hard to hit. Yet through sheer tenacity, he had a great career.

I'd disagree he wasn't naturally talented. He was naturally one of the strongest middles ever and was pretty fast and quick to boot. Also versatile, as he switched from his usual come forward/brawler style to a boxer-puncher vs Basilio: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MeIEaVP9c1s

Bennie. Fullmer beat SRR twice, lost once by kayo and drew with him even though Robinson was past his prime.
Anyways, RIP Champ, Fullmer was one of the toughest and strongest middleweight champions in history.

I was only thinking the other day what a tremendous feat it was of robinson to KO gene. the guy was so tough and durable and made the best use of whatever attributes he had. gene was one hell of a hard case :salut:

Sad to hear the news. It seems to me that he was going to live more than 83 years because of how he used to take care of himself. He was always in great shape, even after retiring from boxing.

One of the greatest middleweights ever. From 1 to 20, where does he belong in the middleweight all time ranks? I do not know. But he is definitely a top 20 middleweight of all time. I do not think he is a top 100 pound per pound all time great, but, he is close by.

RIP champ. You are the last of the great white fighters.
