Price out of Wach fight

Post by Old bones Ian »

Looks like Price has pulled out of his fight with Mariusz Wach, contracts were there to be signed.
I really don't know what's going on with Price, is it injury again? Lack of confidence? Or could it be a better offer or bigger fight coming up.

I don't think he's ever been a confident fighter, and the Thompson fights took away what little he had. I remember him commentating on a Wlad fight and saying "I'm nowhere near this level, yet" and someone in the studio picked up on it and said it was worrying. Fury at the time was saying Wlad was an easy fight for him!

I'm not surprised, Wach is too much of a gamble at this stage. Price's team need to develop him progressively, not fast track him to a title shot.

I disagree. He's not a novice. He should beat Wach, if he can't, then what's it all about? it would do him the world of good as well.

He may as well retire, Thompson exposed him twice and unless he is going to go into the really competitive 50/50 fights there is no point going on. What is the point to him knocking over Latvian bums now ?

Price isn't exactly a baby. He's not old in terms of heavyweight boxing but he's going to end up stagnating unless he steps it up again. He's arguably as fit or as good now as he's ever going to be. It's obvious it's a confidence issue with Price but he's not going to get over that unless he takes a chance.

Price needs to go out in style with a decent payday. If his heart isnt in it why not just fight AJ for a bow out and simply just do a Fraudley and sit on his arse asfter the first decent punch. Hes never going to be a world champion is he? If I was him id take a fight against someone that will generate money and bow out.

Good points, but its a confidence thing with Price. I agree he needs stepped up, but it should be gradual and steady, i think Wach is to big a jump at this time.

Anyway, i dont have much hope for Price getting much further than he is now. I dont believe he has the heart for it, full stop.

Price is coming up to 32 years of age.

He has been a full time boxer since he left school - probably a hundred amateur fights (medals at Commonwealth and Olympic games), 6 years as a pro with over 20 pro fights.

How much slower do you think his management team should go ? - if he isn't ready for this opponent now then I can't see him ever being ready.

Wach would flatten him and that would be that. He may as well beat a few more lower level guys, pad his record some more and then fight Joshua for fairly big money. To me now it's all about just manoevring him to the best payday before he gets found out again.

Not a bad analogy, but Price certainly wont see it that way, i doubt Suerland do either. Price does have potential, he is huge, can bang and has decent sill, but nobody can give him a solid chin or fighting heart, thats the problem. They can howerver try to improve his stamina and defence and work on building up his confidence by working him slowly up through the levels.

Anyway, i've wrote enough about Price here, i personally share your view point, Wach would have stopped him, he will get found out again soon, and he should look to cash in while he can.

I don't think Price will be a genuine world champion, but it is more important that they keep him winning untill Klit retires, they can keep him in the mix with easier opponents

If Price isn't good enough to beat Wach he might as well retire now and find a different career more suited to his talents.

I think most contenders will avoid fighting Wach unless they have to. The blokes got an iron-clad chin and a decent whack. However, Price is not a contender at present and needs to defeat someone with a decent ranking.

Who's it gonna be?

Really, price needs to believe in himself, no trainer can install such confidence

Fury is just a gobshite, Wlad isn't an easy fight for anyone. Price was being realistic, he knows Wlad is a class above him. Yes his confidence level has gone down after the Thompson fights which isn't surprising but he isn't a bombastic fighter like Fury is. TBH I don't think Fury or Price will beat Wlad. The only man I see winning against Wlad at the moment is Wilder. Joshua is Britains best bet but in a couple of years from now.

At this point, Fury will fight anybody on this planet born from a womans womb !

To be fair, Price is gunshy after a couple of losses - I reckon that if Fury ever loses then he will completely implode and never box again.

Brendan Ingle would have fed Price to the wolves, like he did Pele Reid.

"Can't beat Julius Francis canya sonny? How about this Tyson-shaped top 10 ranked fella Orlin Norris then? Ah it'll be a breeze it will be!"
