Your quite active in marketing for prospect shows and will have better ideas of how things work in your local area Dundee is a different beast to any major city in Scotland. I used to run the Sales and Marketing team of a large promotions company based in Dundee and most of our bigger money works was in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen. Boxing in Aberdeen and Glasgow have a big following its a new thing in Dundee. People don't spend big money on nights out they look for value for money. 90% of boxing shows are not value for money and we all know the reasons for that. What you need to build is hype. You need good high quality fights with the risk of the home fighter losing. People like going to fights that they don't know the outcome before they show up. Get the crowd involved if you have a title national anthems. I know Dundee has got huge potential. There is ways to get media partners without any outlays. I had a deal running with Radio Tay in Dundee which was a full advertising package presenter announcements for a small percentage of ticket sales commission. Jamie is right something like 10% off if you are a season ticket holder with Dundee FC or Dundee Utd.. The clubs would love that kind of advertising and would work with the promoter. Between both clubs there is around 10,000 fans. 10% taking up that offer is 1000 more fans to the fight. The biggest one I think is getting local pubs on board to sell tickets. Busy shops have outlets for the average Joe to get tickets not just the fighters. Who really cares how many tickets Ronnie, Mikey or Jamie sell if the venue is full.. Also one more thing people in Dundee are fly will make you think like they are doing you a favour but making a massive profit themselves always get quotes from different companies. Use local because that's how you boost the showAlba wrote:So negative Jamie, the week in the run up to the show you were spouting off about opponents it actually read like you were trying to putt folk off, maybe your not aware of how it reads but that is how it came across.JamieM wrote:You have overheads on the tables too, but Jimmy marr would have supplied the bar and done a great deal along with sponsoring the show, they would have defintly made a profit though, all about learning really and making it better. Saltire should have been asking for feedback, I like colin bellshaw and Iain wilsons plans for scottish boxing, just think made a bit of a hash of it and didn't live to the expectation I had, caird hall is such a nice venue, tue staff are superb and all you ask of a venue, the bar was very good and decent service just believe we should be filling it more, either start of the month or end of the month as in this day not to many on weekly wages, promotion is key, tie in with tay fm, involve the two football clubs, for say offer a reduction in ticket prices for football club season tickets, (ice hockey team does this to huge success) any kind of use of filling a seat is better than an empty seat. Gotta involve the media, possibly interviews and articles such as 20 questions and findin out about out fighters and the promotors. Set up a ring in the shopping centre and try and inspire youngsters who in truth all will be attracted to the ring. So many ideas and not all costly, the shopping centres would jump at the chance for this and saltire have big names like simpson , harrison who could be brought in to boost it, dundee can be a great area but we need new promotion techniques, I hope these guys can provide it :)
Now your slating Colin and Iain about the show, like most things, these take time and im sure they are aware of how it went ££££ wise and will know what to do next time... and if i lived in Dundee i would be grateful there are promoters who are interested in putting a show on ... of course i dont expect you to agree with me, and no doubt you will say "You tell it like it is" which your entitled to, but i just you are very negative.
Sorry mate, while i will give Dundee credit for being a Yes City
