What are Burns and McDonnells chances?
tough fights for them both next anyone see them having a chance?
Re: What are Burns and McDonnells chances?
To me Kameda-McDonnell seems close to a 50/50 fight, maybe with an edge to Kameda. While I generally haven't been impressed by Fig I think Ricky is at the end of the line and I'll be surprised if Fig doesn't win.

For me the Brits are clear under dogs.
I suspect some are basing their view of Kameda on his last performance, where he didn't look great, but I can't recall when Mcdonnell last looked good. Kameda with a wide decision win.
Burns is shot and Fig is a nasty puncher. Can't see how Burns takes this one.

McDonnell and Burns both need to turn the clock back a couple years, as its been a while since either has shown any decent form.
Both fights have the potential to be entertaining though.

Re: What are Burns and McDonnells chances?
Burns has had the FW court battle looming over him - I'm pretty sure this has affected him over the last couple of years
Whether this has been put to bed now in his mind may be key
A victory puts him back in the money

It's a tough one I'm surprised Hearn is putting burns in this fight so early after signing him. I'm finding it hard to judge, burns fought Beltran with a badly broken jaw and got outclassed by Crawford but Crawford is leagues above fig from what I've seen, albeit heavy handed.

Probably knows he's done his money and doesn't want to prolong the agony. Him and Morrison have ruined Burns.Finn wrote:It's a tough one I'm surprised Hearn is putting burns in this fight so early after signing him. Re: What are Burns and McDonnells chances?
It's hard to see just how Burns is going to compete here. He had a hard night against Beltran and the mental scars of that night were evident in his last few fights. With Figueroa being the home fighter Burns can't afford to fight too cautiously because he'll end up a mile behind on the cards. I'd love to see him get a result But just can't see it unfortunately. I think McDonnell has the harder task of the two. Wide points win for Kameda. Would be a real boost for British boxing if the two of them pulled it off though!

Burns looks soft at 140lbs and hasn't turned in a great performance in some time.
I hope he wins but can't see past him copping a beating from Figeroa. I hope he's getting paid well.

Both less than 50/50 for me.

Sorry to say it, but I can't see anything other than a major beating for Burns, expect him to lose either by very wide decision or a late stoppage.
Prove me wrong, Ricky

Not to sure why people are not impressed with Figueroa, he's early 20s and already a world champion, he would beat any British fighter 135 or 140 and I wouldn't be surprised if he stopped burns.

To be fair, Burns has proved a lot of people wrong before, i really think they can do it...the pair of them.Boxerbeetle wrote:Sorry to say it, but I can't see anything other than a major beating for Burns, expect him to lose either by very wide decision or a late stoppage.

Re: What are Burns and McDonnells chances?
Has this Burns fight always been at 140lbs? I distinctly remember Burns saying after his disappointing performance in the Lepelley fight at 140lbs that he would be looking to move back down in weight?
Re: What are Burns and McDonnells chances?
Perhaps because he is a straight ahead brawler with little variety and will struggle against anyone with brain. I think Kevin Mitchell has a good chance of beating him. Almost anyone with strong promotional backing can become a world champion these days. Just look what kind of trash he beat for that title. That said, Burns looked finished recently.rio wrote:Not to sure why people are not impressed with Figueroa, he's early 20s and already a world champion, he would beat any British fighter 135 or 140 and I wouldn't be surprised if he stopped burns.
Re: What are Burns and McDonnells chances?
Not overly convinced he would beat Mitchell or Flanagan if Campbell has a defence he would beat him.rio wrote:Not to sure why people are not impressed with Figueroa, he's early 20s and already a world champion, he would beat any British fighter 135 or 140 and I wouldn't be surprised if he stopped burns.
That's not saying I don't think he is good I reckon he gives Ricky a beat down which I don't want to see
Re: What are Burns and McDonnells chances?
I rate Kameda highly think he is an outstanding prospect anything less that a career best performance from Jamie is good enough and he looked shocking last time out.

Feel for Burns genuinely believe hes gonna be on the end of a rough beating. Hope hes getting paid well because Matchroom have obviously just fed him to the wolves now ready to wash their hands with him.
Re: What are Burns and McDonnells chances?
Seems as good a place as any to ask this...
As the PBC is an afternoon show in the US does that mean that the Burns and McDonnell fights will be being shown as part of Sky's Fight Night show on Saturday?

Re: What are Burns and McDonnells chances?
Yeah they are, I suspect thats why the Brum card is so poor and the fact that any decent fight Hearn has is going to the Pay Per View show.nfc90210 wrote:Seems as good a place as any to ask this...

Re: What are Burns and McDonnells chances?
I think people rate Mitchell too highly on here every chance he's had to shine he's got flattened. Katsidis was well past his best and burns was a light punching weak champion and they both knocked him out. Not sure why people think Figueroa wouldn't do the same.Naandrew wrote:Not overly convinced he would beat Mitchell or Flanagan if Campbell has a defence he would beat him.rio wrote:Not to sure why people are not impressed with Figueroa, he's early 20s and already a world champion, he would beat any British fighter 135 or 140 and I wouldn't be surprised if he stopped burns.

I agree. Always tend to hear that he had problems or an off-night etc. Just so happens that these happen for him in the build up to his biggest fights.rio wrote:I think people rate Mitchell too highly on here every chance he's had to shine he's got flattened.
