We are responsible
We all knew it was going to be a dull affair but no one dare tell our 'mates', 'colleagues', 'family' or Facebook 'friends'. Why not? We've been embarrassed tonight and it was so obvious that it was going to happen. I told anyone who would listen personally not to spend £20 on this but my Facebook is besieged my fans criticising the sport.
This fight should have happened at least 6 years ago. We need to stake a stand going forward. I'm ashamed tonight because I went against my better judgement to support something I never believed in.
We need to grow a pair.

Re: We are responsible
Personally I don`t give a flying fu*k about casual fans or non boxing fans who may have been disappointed by the fight.
What is this desire for boxing fans to have non boxing fans enjoying or approving of boxing? It makes no difference to me, none at all.
If they want to watch great, if not, so what.

I enjoyed the ease of Mayweather winning, won a little money on the Lomochenko ( ko ) and Mayweather ( points ) double, so I'm happy

Steady on you facebook wanker. Can you explain to me why "we" need casual fans to be absorbed in the sport? Are you some needy little Cu*t who lacks the self esteem to enjoy a sport without your facebook bumboys showing their approval.Brian Moore wrote:But we need casual fans to be absorbed in the sport you dumb fxxk. A great example of pure boxing. If people were expecting a toe-to-toe war then they were daft.
This was fantastic. Great build up, pomp, ceremony, glamour and a clear winner!

Build up was pure hyperbole. As for the occasion - was there anyone in attendance? I heard no atmosphere whatsoever from the TV. The fight was fairly dull and entirely predictable.
You're easily pleased mate.

Were knowledgeable boxing fans expecting a great battle? I wanted to see the fight and was excited when it was made, but not because I expected a great fight.
Re: We are responsible
Try looking harder or getting your eyes checked if you need to ask that.Ian1973 wrote:freddydoesdallas wrote:A great example of pure boxing. If people were expecting a toe-to-toe war then they were daft.

There was no atmosphere whatsoever. For a "fight of the century". The place was hardly rocking was it?
Re: We are responsible
No, the atmosphere didn't seem great.

No PPV fight ever really lives up to its hype, and of all fights Pac vs May had set itself an impossible standard. in time this will be seen as a classic performance from an ATG, i mean was this tat much worse to watch than Barrera vs Hamed?

At least barrera slammed naz's head into the ringpost and called him a bitch. Manny couldn't get going and never really troubled moneyYes We Can wrote:No PPV fight ever really lives up to its hype, and of all fights Pac vs May had set itself an impossible standard. in time this will be seen as a classic performance from an ATG, i mean was this tat much worse to watch than Barrera vs Hamed?

Re: We are responsible
The atmosphere in the arena was never going to be electric due to the ticket situation. The occasion was a spectacle and ill leave it to the guys who post on here that have gone out to the fight to comment on the atmosphere on the strip.Ian1973 wrote:freddydoesdallas wrote:A great example of pure boxing. You honestly thought the way mayweather controlled the fight with perfect skill, footwork and timing was boring? What were you expecting?
Re: We are responsible
Didn't think it was dull for a second. Was a little disappointed in Pacquiao though, both his performance and his post-fight interview. Thought he had more class.

I spent as long as I can remember telling my lay friends & family that this was never going to be a superfight & it was 6 years too late, blah, blah blah & that it was all OTT hype.
I bored them rigid about the genuine superfights of the past, that would have dwarfed this has they taken place now, like Tyson/Spinks; Frazier/Ali 1; Ali/Foreman; Leonard/Duran 2; Louis Schmeling 2; Johson/Jefferies etc.
I did my bit, so don't include me!
Re: We are responsible
I blame George Groves!
Re: We are responsible
People's memory's are a bit tinted. I noticed that there were a few references to it "not being Wembley" - after the fight. They were not referring to the atmosphere etc, but in terms of the excitement of the fight etc.
People seemed to forget that Froch vs Groves 2 - knockout aside, was a dull match with neither not looking at commiting a great deal.
It was not Froch who made the comparison but Nick Halling.
I enjoyed this fight, and I can only hope that quite a few people on here remember what they said about this fight before the opening bell..... comparison with Leonard vs Duran 3. There was more action in the opening 3 rounds of this fight with the 12 that night.
No it was not one of the best fights of all time, but being realistic I don't think anyone who has followed these two would have sensibly predicted it would have. Stylistically they were never going to match Hagler vs Hearns. The best I think we could have hoped for was something similar to DLH vs Mayweather..... no, it wasn't as good as that fight - but it was among Mayweather's more exiting fights and certainly right up there among his best performances.
We can call Pacquiao shot all we want..... I did not see the weighin but heard that Manny has bulked up in his legs..... when I saw him walk to the ring I was concerned for him because I thought he'd put on way too much muscle there and that would slow down his leg speed to cut off the ring. Even if we conceed it was not a peak Pacquiao - he is (or was up untill a few hours ago) in the top 5 P4P based on ring accomplishments recently (Tim Bradley is a heck of a boxer) and Mayweather, yet again, made another classy opperator - albeit not as good as he once was - look like a league below.

Re: We are responsible
I disagree, we do need casual fans to watch boxing. There would not be enough money available for big fights to happen if it was left to only the hardcore fans to buy tickets and PPVs.forcefraser wrote:Personally I don`t give a flying fu*k about casua. fans or non boxing fans who may have been disappointed by the fight.

Just look at last night for example, for every hardcore fan buying the PPV there was half a dozen casuals buying it, it's the same when Froch or Haye fight on PPV.
The only way to make huge fights is to guarantee a shed load of dosh for the fighters, and the only way to do that is to sell tickets and/or PPVs to the casuals.

Re: We are responsible
We are responsible for the horrible undercard as well, 4 of bouts from the undercard shown on Sky and the lasting memory of them was-
Jesse Hart looks good but should have looked better given his huge physical advantages
Chris Pearson is a cure for insomnia and very lucky he has the connections he does
Lomachenko looks like a sensation, would like to see the killer instinct come a bit earlier but absolute master
Santa Cruz has regressed so much it's not even funny
