Thoughts on who won?
Thoughts on who won?
I had Mayweather winning by a few rounds, because he slipped and did land a few jabs.
I watched it with 10 'just sports' fans who thought Manny won, because he atleast tried to fight a little bit (a little bit is a stretch as he didn't really go after it either).
At the end, we all felt we loss, but those two are counting their dollar bills as the combined winners.

I personally deduct points for stalling.
I'm scoring it a draw.

Re: Thoughts on who won?
Mayweather 8-4, and I was kind to Manny, could certainly see it wider.
After years(what feels more like decades) of arguing with people, often on these boards about how Mayweather would beat Pacquiao when/if they ever fought, I let myself get carried away by the fact that I like Pacquiao better, and the whole David vs. Goliath thing and all that and actually started getting a gut feeling he might pull out a split decision type affair.
So yeah, my gut is stupid. I mean, my brain is stupid too, but my gut is stupider.

The fighters along with the networks and the casino are who won. Everyone that paid to watch lost.
Re: Thoughts on who won?
That fight could have gone either way, the scorecards were ridiculous, wouldn't care if either one won by a round or 2 either way but 10 and then 8 twice is disgraceful, what a joke, 95% of the fight was made by pacquaio, both had ring generalship at different stages, most of floyds punches scored by computer box were just range jabs not even intended to land, lots of punches were parried, quite an even fight spoilt by ridiculous scorecards

I had it even
Re: Thoughts on who won?
I had it 117-111 Floyd, but I have no problem with any of the cards. Floyd made it his fight and Manny didn't have the output to trouble him much apart from the 4th and the 6th, though I did think that some of the rounds were closer than the commentary suggested.

116-112 Floyd.
The commentary, at least on Sky, was atrocious. Manny did little after the 6th.

Re: Thoughts on who won?
I though 115-113 or 116-112 range for Floyd. Boring fight that should have happened 4 or 5 years ago.

You mean to tell me Watt and Froch shouldn't have started the church of Floyd Mayweather?Boxing Prospect wrote:116-112 Floyd.

I was worried that Froch was going to mention he could taste feces at one point....

118-110 is a pure joke, fight ended just as I expected it very close and Mayweather would get the decision, Mayweather did not dominate most of the rounds were very close couple punches difference, 148 punches for mayweather and only 81 for Manny I'm starting to doubt copubox nunbers

Do yourself a huge favour. Watch Kirkland vs Angulo round 1 and count the punches, then compare your count to compubox.vovazilvova wrote:118-110 is a pure joke, fight ended just as I expected it very close and Mayweather would get the decision, Mayweather did not dominate most of the rounds were very close couple punches difference, 148 punches for mayweather and only 81 for Manny I'm starting to doubt copubox nunbers

Tonight was a real black eye for boxing.
And sadly enough most dont even realize it yet.

Thank you. So many people pull out numbers as if a boxing match were a mathematical equation, and not an event that's subjectively judged round by round.Boxing Prospect wrote:Do yourself a huge favour. As I said on another thread, I saw the fight. What some guy who watches and pushes a button as if this were amateur boxing sees is of little interest to me.

I always use that round as an example as it's one of the most fun and one where the count is HILARIOUSLY bad.Bobbyptsd wrote:Thank you. Compubox really is a steaming pile of crap and should never be done "live". Imo puncher numbers should be done the following day with slow motion used and they released with a live count shown.

Here we go. Now the reports that Pac wasn't 100%. Here comes the rematch. I pledge not to watch it live.

Just like many people write on different treads about this fight, fans are the once who lost, i felt very disappointed, disappointed that many lost, and disappointed that floyd barley won, if there was one clear dominant winner that would make everything less disappointing

Anyone who didn't think mayweather won doesn't have a clue about boxing

Re: Thoughts on who won?
I had it 117 - 111 for Mayweather. I didn't think it was close in any way. I struggle to see how anyone can objectively score it a close fight.
Was rooting for Manny tonight but I was so disappointed in his performance. But I suppose this also reflects Mayweather's ability in being able to nullify Manny''s attack. At times, Mayweather was class to watch.

Re: Thoughts on who won?
I had Mayweather winning about 8-4 in rounds. After six I had it 3-3. Pacquiao did pretty good the first half but could not close the distance in the 2nd half. Did not think the fight was great by any standard I knew going in what to expect another Mayweather win.
Re: Thoughts on who won?
Floyd won the fight convincingly, anyone who gave Pacquiao more than 4 rounds are complete knobs and you really had to be generous to give Pacquiao 4 rounds. Floyd controlled the fight pretty much every second of the fight, threw more punches, landed more, controlled the range, the pace of the fight. Floyd won and didn't even have to go outta second gear in this fight.

I agree to a degree but all this talk of "second gear" etc is nonsense in the fact that people like this often appear to be cruising but then when they need to find the extra gear it's not there. It looks so easy due to style but then when asked to move up a gear that gear is hardly ever there.
It's a case of the eye deceiving the mind mainly.
Re: Thoughts on who won?
I agreed with the cards, and though the ringside judges did a fair job.
Watching Floyds ability to use holding as a standard ploy, rather than a last ditch resort was expected, but fascinating nonetheless, especially the way he made eye contact with the ref and worked the ref. Think what may have changed it would have been if the ref had been stronger, but what an unenviable prospect having to dish out point deductions in biggest fight. Also, expected, but interesting to watch was Floyds characteristic pushing down on the opponent.
Again there were YouTube guides to this strategy before the fight, but the ref didn't seem to have watched it.
I can understand Bob Arum's complaints post fights, as they carry a little water, but I was happy with the result.
Not yet watched full show as set alarm for big fight and missed ring walks, will re-watch if Sky PPV replay, which I am sure they will.
