I Think Khan is the Only One

Post by Taansend »

At 147 who can beat Floyd.

I know he's not popular and this view will leave me open for criticism but the current version of Amir is faster than Floyd and learning crafty tricks from Virgy.

I doubt he'll get the September slot but if he does I think he will win.

Maybe.

I agree with you mate. Khan has the height, the reach, the jab, the speed, the workrate, the varirty of punches and the class to give Mayweather nightmares. For sure he'll put up a far better show than Pacquiao did, he was way too small for Floyd. Floyd had something like a six inch reach advantage for gods sake. No-one is going to beat Mayweather going in there with such physical disadvantages as Manny did.

I think Khan would have to go through Pacquiao first. I don't see Mayweather taking a fight with Khan unless he's absolutely compelled to do so.
Khan will have to beat Paquiao at least as convincingly as Floyd did, or something equal to that against another top name.

I agree that he will be a tougher opponent for Mayweather than Paquiao.

And I believe a Khan-Pacquiao fight would be highly entertaining and unpredictable.

Khan hasn't got the ring nous to beat Mayweather. How would khan adapt when Khan nullifies his plan a like he has done to 48 opponents so far?

It won't be khan anyway, i don't think he has anything to offer Floyd

I wouldn't be surprised if he goes for Cotto at a catch weight, providing Cotto gets past Geale. I do think Khan would give Mayweather problems. Wether he can do it for 12 rounds is another thing! I think PAC underestimated Mayweathers power and I think Khan would be full of ambition until Mayweather connected.

Genuine question. Who has Khan beat that shows he is capable of beating mayweather?

Regarding September, those dates have been in place for a couple of years so has nothing to do with being 'scared' of khan. Especially as he has continually faced opposition of a higher quality than Khan

I'm not sure that's the way to look at it.

He doesn't have to have beaten anyone to be able to beat another fighter, people are looking at Khan's speed and Floyd's lack of one shot knockout power and thinking it's a decent recipe, they might have a point given Floyd's advancing years but what they forget is timing negates speed and Floyd will have Khan sown up after two or three rounds and will most likely stop him late on, or beat him with a wide decision.

I think Khan would do better than Manny did and might win a few rounds and land a few quick punches but I can't see him beating Floyd.

Floyd's timing and skill would see him landing cleaner and point scoring punches where Khan's fast flurries would mainly land on gloves. Would be a good fight though and probably the most entertaining opponent for Floyd. The build up in the UK would be massive, Khan would be unbearable (IMO) talking sh!te about how he's gonna win and be no.1 p4p etc and loads of people would be backing Khan to win.

I'm totally ignorant on the Ramadam thing. How long does it last? Does it definitely rule out Khan for September?

Nobody. He's been treading water against b level fighters whilst waiting for the big payday! If it comes off then fair play to him but if it doesn't then he's wasted a good portion of his career. If he doesn't get the Mayweather fight he should go after Garcia and try and rectify that loss.

He definitely won't get the September slot & that's because he refuses to fight in September for religious reasons.

I think Khan is going to be really gutted if Mayweather quits after September, for will have missed out on his biggest payday by far & the chance to face a living legend.

Ramadan has been around a while right? And Khan has managed to fight close to it on many occasions and during it

In 2005 Ramadan finished on November 3rd and he fought on November 5th.
In 2006 Ramadan finished on 22nd October and he fought December 12th
In 2007 Ramadan finished on 12th October and he fought on 6th October which is while Ramadan was happening!!!!!
In 2008 Ramadan started on 1st September and he fought on 6th September which again is while Ramadan was happening.
In 2009 he fought 2.5 months after Ramadan in a world title fight.

In 2015 Ramadan finishes on 17th July

So why can he not fight in September???? He has fought DURING Ramadan. He has fought days after Ramadan. What has changed?

Maybe he's taken his religion more seriously as he's got older/been advised otherwise.

Khan is very good, but Floyd is better in ALL areas.

Timing, footwork, defence, chin, power, accuracy, experience - the list is endless.

He's got one stoppage in the last 5 years, which was the weird one over flaky Zab who claimed it was low and left the arena.

Malignaggi was the last proper stoppage he's got on his record.

Just to address the Ramadan issue. I don't think it's a question of Khan taking his religion more seriously now than he did on those occasion's where he fought on or close to Ramadan.
Its more likely that he takes his career more seriously now than he did then.

That said, I know that there are certain circumstances that excuse an individual from fasting during Ramadan. While I don't know what they are exactly, it seems like common sense to me that a Muslim role-model who is a top name in his profession, and in a position to influence general perception of Muslims, might be expected to forego Ramadan on the grounds that he would be serving the wider community.

In short, devout Muslim or not, Khan would be a fool to let Ramadan hold his career back at this point.

Remember when Pacquiao paid lip service to Khan when they first trained together under Roach? Back then, Pacquiao would've blasted Khan through the saloon doors, across the street, and into the barber's chair.

But now, it might actually be a winnable fight for Khan. Pacquiao's not sparking heads like he did Hatton without his go-go juice, but he still wallops hard enough to worry Khan. He'd start as the favourite.

Re: May-Khan, for both height and reach, they're within an inch of one another. Khan gives the impression of a height advantage due to his slim build.

Khans the only fighter with half a chance, I think he will give floyd nightmares for a good 4 or 5 rounds but I think floyd will end up winning one he manages to time him.

I actually think this is a fight that is no lose for Khan and providing mayweather wins its a fight that would benefit his legacy greatly. He needs his last fight to be remembered for being exciting by the general public imo.

Khans not well liked and under rated in the UK by many but giving floyd a good fight would increase his stock 10 fold over here.

Basically you have to apply to the Muslim council to get permission to forego the fasting and other obligations during Ramadan.

Or something along those lines, I assume Khan has done this in the past. He may well do it again within reason.
