Simple-Minded Idiots Made Mayweather Rich

Post by diddy »

Let's be real here. Every time someone watches a Mayweather fight they end the fight saying the same thing, "man that dude ran, man he's boring, man he dont wanna fight". Then Floyd throws some $100 bills around in between fights, talks some BS, his team talks some BS, and the same idiots who paid to see his last fight and were bored to tears......get in line to pay to be bored to tears again. Over...and over...and over.

I can proudly say that I have not spent $1 on a Floyd Mayweather fight in my LIFE. I know how to use the perks of the internet and get stuff for free that others shell out their hard-earned $ for. It's really not hard to figure out how to plug an HDMI to HDMI wire into a TV. For the same money people wasted on this 1 Floyd fight I went down to the local Kohl's and bought 4-5 shirts. Something tangible.

My real question is....why are people so f*cking dumb? WHO WOULD PAY to see the same crap over and over again....when they can easily just watch it for free?! WHY would you support a guy who wants to dance and not fight. Look, I appreciate his insane skills/athleticism. He's THE BEST of his era. A master of his craft. But he's not an all-time great. He's borderline top 20-25 all time. Definitely not TBE. Definitely not top 10 either. His era wasnt filled with enough good fighters to make him the Goat. He's also not a "fighter". He's a supreme, pristine risk-adverse tactician. The all-time great list is filled with guys who werent content just to coast. You have to look to finish the job SOMETIMES or at least OCCASIONALLY in my book to be TBE. He never did that, ever. And for that he takes a backseat. His bank account, however, took a backseat to no one in the history of the game, and maybe the future history of the game...because people are too simple-minded to see through his in-between fights verbal BS, and also dont know how to operate the internet properly.

The simple minded masses NEVER GAVE HIM a reason to change his style or become fan friendly. You are just reinforcing to him that it's OK to fight in this manner. The only way to get true enjoyment out of the guy would've been to not blindly shell out for his fights, force him to FIGHT, and in turn make more money. I'm dissapointed in my fellow boxing fans. They should all know better, but sadly, the majority of fight fans arent the brightest crayons in the box from a social class perspective, and thats unfortunate.

Yes, you can't fault Floyd for taking what the market is offering him.

The real problem isn't with Floyd, but with the rules, which reward negative fighters.

In the fifties and sixties, referees were warning fighters to fight, or get disqualified.
You couldn't systematically hold and run like so many do nowadays.

It's a whole different sport today.

Muhammad Ali used to hold a lot. In fairness, he stood his ground and traded punches when he had to. Since then, we've had plenty of boxers who know how to hold and spoil and who aren't prepared to take risks. I know the huge sums of money involved and cautious promoters are a major influence, but it would be nice to have more exciting boxers to follow.

I will happily part with $50 any time Floyd fights. He is a master of his profession and showed it again yesterday. He does what is required to beat his opponents and whilst it may not be to everyone's like, it should be respected.

Wait, so you're saying Floyd loses ATG points for not engaging but you still think it's ok for Andre Ward to fight in a similar boring way?

Did I say Ward was an all time great?

Biggest disparity between Ward and Floyd? Ward doesn't go around parading himself as TBE. Huge difference. So he's not held to same standard of critique. Were he making 150M for one fight it's safe to assume we would expect more from
him inside the ring.

Ward and Floyd are the same guy in the ring. Floyd gets paid mega millions because simple minded dopes get bamboozled by his trash talk/antics/controversy outside of the ring. Ward is a God fearing bible bumper. Praising Jesus doesn't sell to boxing fans. So Ward doesn't get paid. Inside the ring tho, Floyd and Ward are basically the same guy. Clearly the 2 best boxers of today. And I'm only talking about Ward here because you asked.

I'm not afraid to admit to buying the PPV for $100. I usually don't buy PPV's, but basically every boxing fan had anticipated this fight for several years. I wanted to see it in high def with no interruptions.

Time is money (sh*t, it's more than money IMO) and I know OP has wasted way more than $100 of his time and energy talking/typing about this fight over the years, but he's too cheap to shell out a little dough when it actually happens.

I don't support Floyd because he's black, I support him as a boxer because what he does in the ring and I've been a fan of his since the Golden Gloves and the Olympic days.

With the state of Ali nowadays can you really blame Mayweather for using a more defensive style? Ali's condition may or may not have been caused by boxing, but those heavy shots he took especially later in his career when he slowed down could hardly have helped.

Floyd is a defensive fighter, that's what he does but saying he's not one of the greatest boxerswho's ever stepped in the ring is laughable. 48 fights undefeated and many of his wins are over great fighters, hardly the "bum of the month" opponents which so many of the great fighters padded their careers against.

The fact that you don't appreciate his style or find him exciting has no bearing on whether he's a great boxer.

I don't think it is as cut and dry as that. Mayweather boxed to a plan against Pacquiao, and it worked beautifully. Skills wise, I thought it was awesome, and not boring at all. Whether you love him or loath him, Money May is an unbelievable boxer.

You can praise a boxer for the skill and control it takes to simply jab or throw 1-2's. He never sways away from the plan, he knows what to do, and he executes it. Many boxers will get drawn into a battle, but he sticks to his guns.

Except, was that really a plan ? His father was clearly unhappy about how Floyd was executing.

boxing fans are overall very stupid? 100 % yes. who watches wlad and mayweather fights more than once, paying for it. i mean i was at a wlad fight live once, but never again, you can fool me once, but not twice.

most people who watch a lot of tv are just bored lazy and lame. they do nothing exciting in life and watch anything to get them a bit excited. also, they are so stupid to buy into the 24/7 episode which are 10 times more entertaining than a floyd fight. and than there are those who just wanna see him lose, but if you do not like somebodys fighting style and you just wanna see him lose, why pay ppv money for it, why not just stream it.
