They have both fought reasonable opposition, they have both rarely lost a round. At this weight there are questions over PBF's punch power, there are questions over Ricky's defense. all in all it would be a huge win for the boxing fans (and hopefully many others) if this fight were to happen.

Personally I have a gut feeling that Ricky is just that bit hungrier and can dig deeper, plus he is so down to earth that if he thinks he can win (like he did against Tszyu when Tszyu wasstill the P4P top man) it is less likely to be hype and hot air. I can see PBF getting demoralised when he realises how hard the fight is and Ricky taking advantage of that.

Also, I know it was at a lower rate but Mayweather has fought a few fighters with similar styles to Hatton (Chavez, Castillo). I know Hatton is more than likely going to be stronger than these fighters.

The most similar opponent Hatton has fought to Mayweather is probably Joe Hutchinson.

Am starting to get less and less confident

Floyd ain't no unbeatable fighter at the moment either and I ain't seen this Augustus fight and it won't be like Mayweather and Corrales, Hatton has a hell of a better chin than Diego and doesn't fight like him.

He does move around alot Floyd and he does have a cover up style as when they do try to hit him he covers or blocks with his elbow, so Hatton's constant pressure could keep making him cover up and hardly do much except for trading maybe.

Tszyu ain't just no puncher either and no one was saying how washed he is before the fight, everyone was saying how easy he would KO Hatton!

I don't doubt Floyd's speed but he doesn't like fighting on the ropes or pressure fighting just that Gatti was a statue and Mitchell looked like he took a dive from that 6th round body shot.
Floyd's punch is over-rated. They talk about this in almost all of his fights. People who fought him all say its much harder than it looks. Also, Floyd can fight off the ropes and he does it beautifully.

I'm sure everyone knows that Tszyu was past his prime versus Hatton.

So you're saying that when Mayweather "covers up" he won't be counter punching? That's probably his best attribute. Completely relaxed and alert at the same time while counter-punching.

It's not a question of his chin because Mayweather won't go for the KO if it isn't there. He fights smart until his opponent is there for the taking. Hatton will be cut to shreds when Mayweather is done with him. Literally. If anything, on paper Chico has a better chance at beating than Hatton, with the reach and the KO punch, and look at how that turned out.

If you insist that Hatton will beat Mayweather I obviously can't change your mind. I'm just trying to soften the blow when he gets completely humilated and made look amateurish a la Gatti. But if you want to take the brunt of the shock on fight night, go ahead.
Why did he slip out of the way when Gatti was getting him near the ropes then? He covers up them jumps out of the way to counter.
Why would he allow himself to be pinned on the ropes on purpose? Because Ali did it? Come on. If anything it is testament to his ring generalship that he knows better than to be pinned on the ropes and will rarely be caught there

Are you even insinuating that the perofrmance versus Gatti wasn't good enough for you? LOL. Think about what you're trying to say with this. Or atleast how it comes out.
Hatton won't be made to look like Gatti thats exagerated even if Floyd does win.
Ok, maybe not as bad as that since Hatton does have better endurance and no Buddy McGirt to give him a terrible gameplan of trying to box with Floyd. But it will have shades of that fight. And shades of the Corrales fight.
Tszyu maybe past it but no one was saying that before the fight.
But was he in his prime? No. We all know that, it goes without saying.

didn't say he allowed just that you think he's good at fighting there but he just slips out of the way rather than fight there.

I liked hs fight with Gatti but Gatti is just a brawler most but getting him to box FLoyd was not a good idea.

Hatton's chin is 10 times better than Corrales.

No one was saying how much Tszyu was past it before the fight so it didn't go without saying before it.[/quote]

f Tszyu was past his prime then why dd he finish a younger Mitchell in 3 (knocking him down 4 times) and it took PBF 6 rounds? Bearing in mind that Tszyu was then stopped by Hatton in his next fight.

Simple. Tszyu is a bigger puncher than Mayweather.

You know what, Max, this is what you're saying:

Floyd cannot fight off the ropes because he has the ring generalship to avoid being pinned. (The best example of him fighting off the ropes is probably the Augustus fight)

Gatti is a "brawler" therefore Floyd's performance against him was not a virtuoso performance. (I'd like to see what Hatton-Gatti would look like)

Hatton chin is "10x" better than Corrales' (which was why he had to hold on for his life to an aging Tszyu for the first 4-5 round of their fight)

Tszyu's prime was in 2005 (versus Hatton :o )

The fight isn't going to be won on having a better chin than Corrales. I think it'll be like the Castillo fight but I feel Mayweathers better than that now, Rickys faster and works harder than Castillo, Castillo has a better tighter defense. 1 of the reasons Castillo did so well (yet still lost) was his defense. How good can Rickys defense be? Can Ricky keep closing the gap to keep pressuring inside - despite Mayweather moving/slipping and throwing combination counters? I make Mayweather a 65-35 favourate but seeing it going the distance.

First of all, no one said Chico has a better chin than Hatton. And "mate", according to that same criteria, Floyd Mayweather has a better chin than Corrales. So please.

Facts:

Floyd is a much better technical boxer than Hatton.
Floyd is faster and better defensively than Hatton.
Floyd has fought a better level of competition than Hatton.
Floyd is the best boxer, overall, in the world today.

BUT:

Hatton will hit Floyd more than any other fighter has in the past.
Hatton is the biggest, strongest guy Floyd will have ever faced.
Hatton will also punish Floyd to the body, which few other fighters have done.
Hatton has the chin to take Floyd's punches and keep him under pressure for the whole 12 rounds.

So, while on paper Mayweather is the favourite, there are still a lot of unknowns and unanswered questions that will be answered in this fight. It is by no means a foregone conclusion and, in my opinion, will be a fight of the year candidate should it come off.

Loynesy wrote:Yes - Hatton beating PBF would probably be the best ever win by a British fighter. When was the last time a British fighter beat the then undoubted P4P number one - I would never knock Turpin or Honeygan's wonderful achievements but were SRR and Curry the P4P No. 1's at the time?
Well I think SSR was certainly considered the best fighter in the world when he he fought Turpin 128-1-2 kind of dwarfs PBF achievements so far.

As far as Hatton PBF goes I can really only see one outcome, as a BritI would wish the best of luck to Hatton but, as stated, Floyd is different class.

Robinson the truth be told was never quite the fighter at middleweight that he was at welterweight.

He was a small middleweight, and consistently weighed in under the limit and had a long punishing career behind him.

He wasn't exactly on the skids when he met Turpin, but he had been engaing in some high living in the run up to the fight, and was doing his European tour.

Turpin was also a massive middlweight, who later fought at light heavy, and a very very awkward customer to boot.

I'd say Hatton's victory over Floyd would be near as impressive, because Floyd is right at the height of his powers right now.

If Floyd's so good at it then he could of fought that clubrawler Gatti well easy off the ropes.

Tszyu's a puncher and you know it and those shots wern't making him hold on for life it was alot on inside fighting and he didn't go down from shots on the chin.

Corrales falls whens a good shot is landed Hatton's chin is titanium compared to Corrales.

FLoyd needs to step it up to prove how good he is and not fight guys he can fight while also talking to the commentators about whats his favourite teams.

Didn't he say he'd give upthat belt rather than fight a Warren fighter though?

Some great posts here :TU:

Floyd is fast, but he looks fragile at times. If Hatton can approach him with his no nonsense style then he may be able to shake him.

But still I think PBF will be too smooth on the night and outclass him.

I like this post. Pretty much sums up my feelings on the fight.

A lot of variables in there that we won't know the answer to until fight night makes it very interesting.

If it happens in Vegas I'm going....

Fighting off the ropes versus Gatti... the outcome wouldn't have changed if Floyd were knitting a sweater while he was fighting Gatti! So you mean Floyd isn't good enough anymore unless there is a form self-imposed handicaps? They might as well put an obstacle course in the ring

You're right, it was bodyshot that dropped Hatton, not a chin shot. But anyway, how could Hatton have gone down from a shot to the chin? It's not likely to get hit early when you're holding and wrestling the way that he was for the first few rounds.

Max, by using the same criteria, Floyd Mayweather has a better chin than Corrales.

Floyd has been wanting to "step it up". It's unfortunate that Hatton and Mosley both declined to fight him in 2005. Maybe 2006 will be a better year for Floyd. But after the Judah loss, it's off to a bad start. Let's hope his luck changes

I am not being rude mate, but it might help your powers of persuasion if you tried to use a bit of basic boxing knowledge to back up your opinion rather than pure rhetoric.

This part of the site has some of the most knowledgable fight fans around, most think PBF will probably win, but there are technical reasons for this rather than a rant that looks like something from a WWF fanzine.
