The 19-year-old lightweight, who won Olympic silver in 2004, is up against Belarussian Vitali Martynov, 21.

"He's a tough kid from Eastern Europe who will be coming to win but I have encountered plenty of these lads during my time in the amateurs," said Khan.

"It's my first six-rounder so I'm not out to blast him straight away. I want to size him up and then finish him."

Willy Blain, stopped him in the second. I know Blain is a 10 stone fighter - but still, the guy is a powder puff puncher (excellent boxer BTW).

Yeah - but this looks an OK matchup for this stage. The guy has only had one loss and it is to good (if v light punching) opposition.

Having said that, 5 of Martynov's opposition has never had a fight before or since.

I'm fairly happy with the opponent, nice to see they are putting him in with someone with a decent record instead of a journey man thats lost or drawn more than they have won. Hopefully they are taking Khans career onwards & upwards.

Good opponent and Im glad he is shifting up to 6 rounds (will he be doing the same for Jeff tommas) How are Deans attempts to get him in the ring going??

He wont be fighting Jeff Thomas now. Jeff lost to Baz Carey and the fight would be pointless.

Blain would be a good opponent for Khan down the line a little bit. He's not a big puncher, but he's an excellent boxer who would pose Khan problems that he's never faced before.

This guy looks OK, although I was hoping for Anthony Maynard. Maybe they can make that fight for the February or March dates.

Blain is a very good boxer, would be surprised to see Khan in with him for anything less than the European title. This kid seems a decent fighter at this stage, let's hope he takes Khan near the 6 rounds limit i don't think it would do him any harm.

Is this anything less than a 99.9% dead cert for Khan.

7 stoppages from 9 wins, at first it looks a step in the right direction.

How deceiving.

Why are they so scared of giving him anything like a proper test.....public opinion is slowly thinking he is another Audley....and its all Fwanks doing

Audley was managing himself and should have jumped in at the deep end given his age. Amir has time on his side and I have faith in allegedly to give him the step up at the right time. I criticised Warren for not letting Hatton fight the best, but looking back it seems like made the step up at the right time.

Pretty bad match up, The guys that Khan beat in the amatures are better than the opposition he is fighting. Khan being a silver medalist should be fighting some far tougher comp by now. Its not like he needs 30 pro fights before stepping up.

Take a look at Mike Tyson's early career, he fought absolute PIGEONS for the first 19 bouts...

Sometimes with easten european fighters on boxrec fighters that show up 0-0-0 are actualy much more expereanced but on small shows which are not always registered. Its the same with the asian ones (I htink Manny Pacco used to have such a record.

I think Blain has his own ambitions, he is more than a bit decent - even despite his lack of power I think he has the makings of some world class skills.

I don't mind these mismatches at this stage of Khan's career, but pleaseeee don't say it's a good fight.

What we have here is another fighter who Khan will tower over, with evey single attribute a boxer can have being in Khan's favour - I can't see he's learning a great deal to be honest.

I feel some people are a bit too harsh on Khan. He's got time on his side and he's got only four pro fights.

This guy might've been stopped by Blain, but he's also the first opponent who has a similar height and reach as Khan. Not too many 4-0 boxers fight guys who are 10-1(regardless of the opposition)

Better to bring him along too slow than burn him out too quick. But I think it's a good matchup anyway.
