Amir Khan Vs. Chris Algieri UK broadcaster?

Post by chad »

Before his fight with Alexander, Khan signed a 3 fight deal with SKY. With Khan Vs. Algieri a little more than 3 weeks away, I've not heard or seen anything to suggest the fight is being shown on SKY.

I remember Steve Bunce saying a few weeks ago that Khan's Dad was upset with the way Eddie Hearn and Kell Brook have conducted themselves in recent weeks by calling out Khan in public. He feels they've been disrespectful and shown a lack of class, and allegedly suggested their behaviour means Khan might never take the fight. Has Khan, or his Dad, taken the hump and walked away from SKY? They did it before when the fight against McCloskey ended up on Primetime. Anyone know anything? Maybe SKY have been too busy pushing the Mayweather / Pacman PPV and haven't got round to announcing the Khan fight yet.

I guess they are waiting to see when its on. PBC haven't confirmed if its one of their afternoon or evening shows yet. If its an afternoon show over there (primetime over here) I think Khan would do very good viewing figures even against Algeiri.

I notice the Degale / Dirrell show is an afternoon show in the states so that'll be on at normalish time over here. :TU:

I think it's on that Spike TV channel in the States so I had assumed it would be shown on our version of that channel? Kinda hope not as I don't get that channel yet as a Virgin subscriber! I'll record it if it's on a channel I have but I won't lose too much sleep if I miss it.

I'm in the same boat can't get Spike yet.

To be honest I don't think Spike TV UK will get it, the Jack v Dirrell bill was on Spike in the states but Sky Sports over here. I do hope (once Virgin get it :DD ) that Spike TV UK do show some of the PBC cards but I'd expect it to be some of the lower key ones wihtout British interest otherwise SKY or B-allegedly will pick them up.

I've just checked and they've now confirmed Khan time is 9pm USA so it'll be early hours over here.

Interesting. So the broadcast would end somewhere between 4am and 5am here in the UK. With Eddies big PPV show starting around 14 hours later, will SKY want any of their boxing team (pundits, anchor, commentators) staying up until the wee hours of the morning ahead of a big show later the same day?

On Ringside they highlighted all the fights coming up on SKY Sports in May. They covered this weekends action, DeGales fight in a couple of weeks and the PPV at the end of the month. They also mentioned Smith Vs. Ward but no mention at all that they are showing the Khan fight.

I thought that was going to be either Ward Vs. Smith or Abraham Vs. Stieglitz IV. Probably will be the Khan fight

Amir Khan Vs. Chris Algieri has not been picked up by SKY. The fight will be shown live in the UK, on Freeview channel Spike TV, from 2:00am on Saturday the 30th May. Should be officially confirmed in the next 48 hours.

This was posted by a pretty reliable source over on Digital Spy.

Bollux! I don't get that channel on Virgin yet! I'll catch it online. I think we all know how it's gonna pan out anyway.

If it is shown by Spike TV here in the UK, you'll be able to watch the fight the next day on Demand 5 http://www.channel5.com/shows

If it is on Spike, he's really not going to be in a strong negotiating position if he does actually get the opportunity to fight Mayweather. I think this fight has possibly been the worst one he has ever picked. Nothing to gain if he wins, weakens his negotiating position, alienates fans and no real coverage.

Skysports news barely cover any major sports that don't appear on their channels so i can't see them giving much coverage to a fight on a new channel

Khan should have took the Brook fight at Wembley. Broner is now fighting Shawn Porter in Vegas on 20 June.
