Earnie Shavers vs Jimmy Young Rematch Question.

Post by KOJOE90 »

Anyone here see or know much about the November 1974 rematch between Earnie Shavers and Jimmy Young?

I heard that some felt Shavers was lucky to get a draw against the skilled Jimmy Young?

Any input would be great fight fans. :box:

On a related topic anyone see the Split Decision fight between Ken Norton and Jimmy Young? I never have. Love to hear accounts on that as well. I saw both of the Lyle fights. All of them were critical to Jimmy's Career to my way of thinking.

It was somewhat of a defensive fight. Not tremendously exciting.

I remember the fight to be pretty fun to watch. I saw it it live on prime time network TV (for you younger guys, yes that used to be normal).
I haven't seen the fight ever since, but I'm pretty sure it was entertaining. It was very close and could have gone either way.

Something I found on the web.....

A year and a half later Young (13-4-1) fought a rematch with Shavers (46-4). This time the fight went the scheduled 10 rounds. The fight was declared a draw and would later prove to be an omen for Young's career when it came to getting the call in close fights. I have only seen this fight on tape, but I scored it for Young. Over the years I've talked to more than a few fighters and trainers who were at the fight and saw it live. Everyone says the same thing. Young won it.

I realized that I wasn't being clear. I was referring to the Young-Norton fight here.

My fault, I probably should not have changed the subject, however Young's experience with the top tier boxers are all interlinked in my mind.
