With looks like those, you could certainly hire Cotto out to haunt a house!

Geale looks like the helpful neighbour from next door, and Cotto like a police identikit picture relative to the latest horrendous crime that's been committedBeltane wrote:With looks like those, you could certainly hire Cotto out to haunt a house!

Re: Cotto vs geale
This forum is starting to feel every bit like ESB.
Geale has a very good chance of walking away with a third world title here. He is a legit middleweight and hopefully the 157 catch weight doesnt effect him.
I think its pretty obvious that geale had a trial weight in for the 30 day test. Its not uncommon to have a practice weight in if u are trying to make a weight you havent done before or for a while. I have done it myself before fights. And i think that its equally obvious that cotto didn't bother with a trial weigh in because he has made 157 comfortably before. I also wouldnt be surprised if cotto had purposely drank extra water to seem heavier. Maybe to make geale think that cottos walk around weight is higher than it usually is and that geale wont be that much stronger? Just a thought.

To the fight itself. I believe Cotto, even though just a welter, will stop Geale. He is a class above Geale in talent and it will show, oh how it will show.

Re: Cotto vs geale
I wonder if my publican will put this fight on at out local, I know he was very disappointed with the Golovkin fight.
Here's hoping.
Will Geale be prepared to go toe to toe at any stage of the fight or will he try to pick apart a much smaller opponent?

I believe Geale will use his pitter patter volume style to try and beat Cotto on Points.

Geales to start strong and do a lot of moving and ducking, he will pitter patter for 5 or 6rds and frustrate Cotto but in the end I expect Cotto to catch up with him in rds 8 onwards......... Forced stoppage or KO to Miguel

Agree with this, Cotto will stop Geale within 5 rounds IMO, Geale's inability to take a punch and persevere when the going gets tough will be his downfall.Francis75 wrote:Mate keep your prejudices away from this site and just talk boxing.scottearley123456 wrote:This forum is starting to feel every bit like ESB.

Re: Cotto vs geale
I don't understand what you mean when you say inability to take a punch. It's only been GGG that he hasn't stood up to and no shame in that. You could be right but that can't be proven in 1 fight.

If Golovkin stopping you equates to an inability to take a punch there are 29 suffers of the dreaded condition already and no doubt more to followfox wrote:I don't understand what you mean when you say inability to take a punch. The reality of course is Geale has had 34 fights over 11 years and only been stopped once. By Golovkin, the guy who has stopped 29 of his 32 opponents and will no doubt keep stopping them.

Geale has been dropped many times in his career.fox wrote:I don't understand what you mean when you say inability to take a punch. It's only been GGG that he hasn't stood up to and no shame in that. You could be right but that can't be proven in 1 fight.
He won't recover from Cotto dropping him just like the GGG stoppage.
It's one thing taking a punch from featherfisted thai etc opponents at the Campbelltown Catholic Club when you are in your 20's but anther taking shots to the head against the elite in your mid 30's

Geale has fought professionally for 11 years, won world titles and only ever been stopped the once. His record speaks for itself.Kelandbeave wrote:Geale has been dropped many times in his career.fox wrote:I don't understand what you mean when you say inability to take a punch. The only guy who has ever stopped Geale is the biggest punching middleweight in the world and he stops nearly everybody.
Re: Cotto vs geale
Sure he's been dropped many times but it's only GGG that has kept him there. He has kept getting up so his chin can't be that bad. We all know Cotto is one of the elite, and he might stop him, but saying he can't take a punch after one stoppage loss is a bit harsh.Kelandbeave wrote:Geale has been dropped many times in his career.fox wrote:I don't understand what you mean when you say inability to take a punch. I never said he couldn't take a punch in general, i said he won't be able to take Cotto's punch being one of the elites just like he couldn't take GGG punchfox wrote:Sure he's been dropped many times but it's only GGG that has kept him there. Spot on. When Golovkin hits them they invariably stay hit. Cotto can punch. But he is a very different proposition to Golovkin.fox wrote:Sure he's been dropped many times but it's only GGG that has kept him there. He has kept getting up so his chin can't be that bad. Re: Cotto vs geale
Not sure you can compare Cotto and GGG in the power stakes, not at Middleweight anyway. Martinez was dropped several times early (round 1) by Cotto and managed to survive until round 10. Geale has a reasonable chin. Dont judge his chin by the GGG knock out. He showed his real determination and ability to take a whack by getting to his feet.

...then shaking his head and telling the ref he didn't want to continue.
If you want to talk about determination and ability to take a whack you will be hard pressed to find a worse example.
Re: Cotto vs geale
I believe it looks like he is shaking his head in being annoyed at being put on his ass.
nobody here knows what was said or whether geale could comprehend what exactly the ref said.
the fact the ref had to help him to stay on his feet, and his eyes were gone, tell me he was in queer land and did not quit.
some people just prefer to label him a quitter without really knowing.

I've read some posts here, and am kind of surprised so many Aussies think he can leave NY with a title on points. I mean I'm not saying it's impossible, but with a big fight against Alvarez in the works, can you imagine what a disaster it would be to many people if some Aussie comes along and wins the title?
I don't mean that as any kind of derision towards Geale (or Aussies, for that matter), but I believe it's worth thinking about, from a money(and power) point of view. A points decision, especially if it's in any way close? I wouldn't make any kind of bet on that.

Very fair assessment of the situation. Geale would have to put on a clinic and even then it's a 50/50 toss up with the judges given the importance of a possible Canelo v Cotto mega fight.
It has all the makings of ODLH V Sturm at middleweight so Oscar could fight BHOP for a mega event

Your point is well made. But Geale was able to leave Germany twice with different titles, and on both occassions on points.Bobbyptsd wrote:I've read some posts here, and am kind of surprised so many Aussies think he can leave NY with a title on points.
