Cotto vs Canelo at MW

Post by crusader »

There seems to be a high probability that this will be next if Cotto beats Geale.

Who wins, and what chance do you give them against GGG?

I think most people are prolly thinking that and I'd agree on the condition Cotto gets through Geale.

Lol Canelo is gonna knock Cotto the f*ck out. That's not even a debate.
Plus Cotto has Roach as a coach. lol
On top of that a 2 inch height advantage and a 3(1/2) inches reach advantage for Canelo.

BoxRec lists Alvarez at 5'9" but I thought he looked shorter than Mayweather. He should be the bigger man though.

Not good. He gets hit way too much and if he takes those shots against GGG it will be nighty night!

Canelo v Cotto would be a competitive fight for the first few rnds then Canelo would begin to impose his size and bust Cotto up for a late rd stoppage.

This fight would be a blast but we all know who Floyd's fighting in September and it's Cotto. Canelo and GGG will start negotiating and i think that we get a chance to see that fight within the next year as well.

Floyd only has one more fight left and he's obviously going to go with a boxer that will bring in the most money and thats Cotto. Khan is deserving but doesn't have the fan base.

Although I would pick Alvarez to beat Cotto, I wouldn't buy into this Kirkland KO too much lol. Cotto is on a totally different level than Kirkland, I mean not even in the same stratosphere as far as skill is concerned. Cotto/Alvarez is a pick'em fight, doesn't get much more competitive than that. 2 years ago I think I would have picked Cotto and I may go back to thinking Cotto beats Alvarez depending on how he handles Geale.

With Roach knowing Canelo is naturally bigger and has to cut weight, look for him to demand the fight at 154.5 or some crap like that. Very doubtful he will want it at the full 160. Roach is the catch weight coach.

I would favor Canelo slightly, but not by destruction like some are predicting.

Think the higher weight would suit Cotto equally as good. 157 would get the best out of both

Not for this thread? I started the thread and explicitly asked in the first post what people think of the Cotto-Canelo winner's chances against GGG.

Probably happens, since it's good money for both fighters. Alvarez probably wins, since IMO Cotto is pretty small and has an inflated rating at middleweight, IMO. Austin Trout beat the crap out of Cotto, so read into that what you will. I am not really convinced that the winner of this fight would then fight Golovkin, since Golovkin still doesn't offer a very desirable risk/reward ratio, and the winner of Alvarez - Cotto will be a ppv cash cow entitled to all of the most favorable opportunities. Alvarez doesn't need that loss this early in his career, so I only see him fighting Golovkin if he is figured to be a comfortable favorite, which he doesn't seem to be right now. If some time passes and Golovkin gets some more wins while aging, the risk/reward ratio could be just right in 2017 or 2018. If Cotto beat Alvarez, he might be willing to fight Golovkin, since Cotto has four losses, minimal left to lose, and generally has fairly bold matchmaking.

Sorry didn't read that thought it was a poll out of who would win between them at MW

I don't fancy Cotto's chances against Geale or any top 30 middleweight with two functioning arms and legs. That makes me doubt a fight between Alvarez and Cotto will take place. If it does, the Mexican knocks Cotto out after a few rounds.

Oscar De La Hoya has been quoted as saying he wants to wait a couple of years before Alvarez takes on GGG. If that fight does happen, GGG will slaughter him. It will just be a case of how much punishment can the younger man take before he hits the deck.

LOL, it's funny that people think because Canelo beat a basic journeyman in Kirkland that he will somehow be able to do the same to a HOFer in Cotto, Miguel has the skills to make Canelo look bad.

Cotto won't be waltzing in and swinging wide and telegraphed like Kirkland did, he is faster, has a tighter defense and a better chin too and he knows how to cut off the ring.

I would have picked Cotto a couple years back, now I'll go with Alvarez. I think he brings the strength and pressure, especially with the body work, that Cotto wouldn't be able to keep up with now.

I think they would both lose to Golovkin in a late-ish round stoppage after getting battered.

Think I read somewhere that HBO only agreed to Cotto-Geale as long as Cotto agreed to fight Canelo in September.

I don't expect Canelo to walk right through the experienced Cotto as he did with Kirkland.

The ring savvy Puerto Rican will probably try to emulate his performance in the Margarito rematch and carefully try to outbox Canelo. We all know that Alvarez has more problems solving boxers than he does sluggers.

Should be competitive for a while until the younger, fresher Canelo eventually cuts the distance and begins ripping to the body.

Cotto may survive and go the distance, but Canelo should steamroll him late and win a deserved decision.

Don't think there will be any bogus catchweight.
Cotto is obviously a small middleweight but Canelo is moving into the division for the first time. Both guys will probably weigh several pounds under the 160 limit on their own accord.

Cotto did get his ass handed to him by Trout, which made me go out on a limb to pick Cotto on the losing end of his next fight against Geale. I know it is a long shot, but just don't think Cotto is all that at this point in his career. A lot of people seem to think Cotto is a total different fighter with Roach, but I disagree. Canelo beats him in a very good fight, but it won't be controversial.
