so. this is boxing. the one who decides whether
there is a rematch has "money" as a nick name
and the loser got surgery one week after the bout.

i don't say i want to see a rematch, but it smells
like big cash, not as big as no1, but if they hate
each other enough in public, this could still be
the second biggest fight in history.

The boxing blockbuster event, Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao, shattered the previous record for total pay-per-view buys and now ranks as the highest-grossing pay-per-view of all time.

"Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquaio fight tickets eclipse $72M"
http://espn.go.com/boxing/story/_/id/12 ... ate-record

I don't know how accurate the article is, but Dan Rafael (ESPN) is reporting the same stats on his Twitter feed. :o

"And now this: #MayweatherPacquiao destroys all-time PPV record. HBO and Showtime announce it did 4.4 ppv buys in its initial report." :o

The numbers being quoted are based on "initial reports from distributors". :o

"Mayweather vs. Pacquiao drew enormous numbers on social media. For example, Facebook reported that 37 million unique people contributed more than 115 million interactions from the start of the event to 30 minutes following its completion, a new record for a boxing event."

As I said in another thread, 4.4 means the cable companies grossly underperformed.

They had reported 2.25M buys from ONLY the satellite guys last week.

That means the cable guys- usually responsible for 60% of buys- did less than 50% of them.

That is a huge drop off.

The only way a rematch gets anything remotely close to 2 mil is if people buy into the BS that Manny's shoulder prevented him from doing better.

According to David Mayo of MLive.com, Mayweather will take home between $209 and $210 million and Pacquiao will take home between $142 and $143 million.
:o

Astounding.

Even if the rematch does half of the first fight, it's well worth getting it on again. What other match up is going to come close?

I thought we've been through this already. But it seems to be the only option you have when going head to head with me....

My response was triggered by always reading your negative comments. You're such a downer, dude.

If Canelo beats Cotto, especially if he really beats Cotto, then Floyd/Alavrez II is on par with Floyd/Manny II in May 2016.

As I said in another thread, 4.4 means the cable companies grossly underperformed.

maybe the percentages are shifted because
of more than usual international interest.

I'd like to see what the overhead costs for this fight really are.

They just list revenue and the split and act like people just advertise the fight for free.

And to read that some stupid UFC cats like Chael Sonnen is saying "boxing is dead"!!

LOL, I bet the UFC couldn't do over 2 million with the following all on one card

Rousey vs Cyborg
McGregor vs Aldo
Silva vs Jones

It is going to be a mighty cold day when human cockfighting is more popular that the sweet science.

If any of the two is dying, it's MMA.

Can't see a chance in a hell a rematch would be the second highest selling fight in history. Big fight? Yes. Mega returns again? No.

don't know. if they wanted to make it big, they
could. just imagine they started shouting matches
now in public with verbal gloves coming off ...
manny screaming, i gave you fight with one hand!
… to which floyd replies: you are a drug cheat and
when the playing field was leveled you couldn't
even compete with TBE!
coward!
cheater!
wife beater!
hypocrite!

imagine something along these lines for four
weeks ...

The problem with that idea is Pacquiao probably won't be able to fight again for 9 to 12 months, according to his doctor.

No so sure about that when it comes to overly delayed sequels.
