Half point? Darleys Perez.

Post by Stuarty »

I just read Crolla was up against Perez for the vacant WBA title. I went on to check Perez record and there was a fight for the interim version last year where there were half points scored! Is this for real and if so what is the point?

its not the worst idea actually but would probably create/promote further confusion in scoring

some 'clear' rounds are 'worth' the same as some 'close' rounds, half points take care of that

Yeah fair point. I just didn't know they still used this system in some fights. I knew they done it in the 80s early 90s but it's a while since I've seen scoring like this.

A number of Latin American countries use it, check an Argentinian's record and you'll likely see 1/2's scattered about. I'm not saying it's good or bad, but I would like to see it trailed out in more countries, likewise I'd like to see more open scoring, the use of replays for calls and heavier gloves for fighters who miss weight...but I know many are opposed to even trialing these things.
