7ft Chinese Dong Returns
Sorry - couldnt resist the thread post. So Taishan Dong, a reputed 7ft heavyweight from China fought at the weekend and is lined up for 22 May return which will be televised by Fox.
Has anyone seen him fight? I hear he's a bit crude. Did he have an amateur career?
I'm assuming he's just a bit of a novelty; though it would be create to see him face the Chinese Olympic silver medallist... Forgot his name... Shilei???

He isn't half bad, and Zhang is a decent fighter - he will do well as a pro. He isn't a world champion but he is reasonable, should win the OPBF title and get into the top 20.
I am 6ft 2ins and 240lbs and I am not the biggest or tallest person in any place I have worked in China. They have no shortage of potential heavyweights here.

I heard the new generations are quite tall. Something in the water?!! Might explain Dong's size... (Although I think he may have a condition.)Fat Git wrote:He isn't half bad, and Zhang is a decent fighter - he will do well as a pro. I've watched him a couple of times and wasn't overly impressed but it's early days. His size alone is gonna be a difficult obstacle for most fighters! Pretty clumsy and slow. If it all goes tits up he could join the WWE or if everything is in proportion he could make a decent living from porn

And with a name like Dong I'm sure he'd be a smash hit...Stuarty30 wrote:I've watched him a couple of times and wasn't overly impressed but it's early days. Re: 7ft Chinese Dong Returns
Met this dude in China back in 2005. He is easily the biggest human being I have ever seen. His head alone was about two foot tall. I also think, looking at his age, he was about 16 and still growing...
I have followed his career with interest but to be honest he doesn't look much cop although I hope he does well.
Is he still training with Buddy McGirt?

He's seems to have a decent chin, but he's WAY to easy to hit, took some real clumps at the weekend:

Not the best opponent, but he can punch, all of his wins have coming by stoppage.

Re: 7ft Chinese Dong Returns
They just need another heavyweight called "Ding" then we can look forward to the build up.

Re: 7ft Chinese Dong Returns
Even at 7ft he won't go far,I've seen him 3 or 4 times now and have never been impressed, he has zero defence so won't be long before he's KO'd

It's all gone Dong! That could be his first movie title!reggaereggae wrote:Yes, he could be the Chinese Long Dong SilverStuarty30 wrote:I've watched him a couple of times and wasn't overly impressed but it's early days. Maybe he could fight Demetrius King, although promoters might need to get permission from the XXX industry to showcase the fight

Can't see him getting to the top, well to easy to hit, I'll say this though, he's in better shape than 90% of today HW's.

There's a certain Kiwi who just so happens to be the #1 OPBF contender and sounds like he wants that belt. Zhang and Dong would be best served to avoid said Kiwi as he's a sensational fighter.Fat Git wrote:He isn't half bad, and Zhang is a decent fighter - he will do well as a pro. I'd like to see Dong vs Junlong, the Dragon King breaks down the wall easily.
Re: 7ft Chinese Dong Returns
Dong is terrible.
Zhang is okay and while I think he was on the slide even as an amateur he's by far the better of the two.

Sensational? That's going a bit far regards hyperbole.Boxing Prospect wrote:

Besides, Zhang is still a novice pro.

I'd stand by Joseph Parker, the Kiwi, being sensational. Fantastic prospect who certainly needs some polishing but will be one of the top contenders.Fat Git wrote:Sensational? That's going a bit far regards hyperbole.Boxing Prospect wrote:

Re: 7ft Chinese Dong Returns
You can stand by it as much as you want, he is a heavyweight, meaning, he can be hit and he can be put away, he has yet to come through that test and until he does - proclaiming that he is going to be a 'top contender' is at best, premature.Boxing Prospect wrote:I'd stand by Joseph Parker, the Kiwi, being sensational. Re: 7ft Chinese Dong Returns
Is this the guy who had his debut on FNF some time last year, came in and sort of cuffed his opponent on the shoulder, and the guy went down and that was it?
Not sure why I'm asking, as there probably aren't myriad seven foot Chinese heavyweights.

That's 6'6" Zhang Zhilei, who won an Olympic silver and World Championships bronze.Bobbyptsd wrote:Is this the guy who had his debut on FNF some time last year, came in and sort of cuffed his opponent on the shoulder, and the guy went down and that was it?

Re: 7ft Chinese Dong Returns
Bo allegedly showed his fight on the Alvarez undercard, Looked quite chinny to me. A club fighter was giving him a few issues. I don't see much down for him as the quality of opponent improves.
Re: 7ft Chinese Dong Returns
If that Dong unloaded on your face you'd know about it.
