Kirkland Laing

Post by Eddy »

I remember watching a documentory about him with Buncey. Was a great fighter, who beat Duran. That footage was over 12 years ago, and at that time he was one step away of being homeless. Does anyone know how he's doing at present, and is he OK?

He has dementia and now lives in a nursing home in Yorkshire.

His former partner Paula Chan lives in Colwyn Bay, I met her last year when I repaired her laptop and she told how Kirk was keeping.

Kirk was a truly great fighter and could have been one of the best but sadly he lacked the application and under achieved massively really sad coz he was one of the most talented boxers that I ever saw

I remember seeing the documentary on Bunceys show years ago back in the setanta days and I hadn't heard of Laing so I asked my dad about him and he said he met him years before,Im sure there was some story but I can't remember, I assume it was in n England because my dad works all over UK but I'll have to ask him again

I do remember my dad saying he got Kirkland a bit of hash though

Hornsea is a bit north of Hull near Skipsea. Is he in a nursing home in hornsea?

I had the VHs tape with his fight with Buck smith, the tape snapped so couldnt convert it to dvd. That was a shock defeat as I believe that buck was ringing, not sure of the story behind Buck im sure someone will enlighten us however.

I'd heard/read somewhere that Kirk was in a nursing home in Yorkshire, I asked Paula this and she confirmed it but didn't specify where.

No, sorry. I know Parsons wanted to know a while back, don't know if he found out.

On a happier note Paula had some cracking training photos of Kirk in his prime, he was with Dennis Andries in a lot of them.

I dont think there is a specific dementia home in hornsea itsel, more likely closer to Bridlington or Hull.

It doesn't have to be specific. Most care homes are 50-50 now, elderly on one side, dementia on the other. It was definitely Hornsea.
