Best Weight Division in the UK 2015?

Post by danamba7 »

I did a poll in December 2013 which provided the below results;

Heavyweight - 2 votes (2%)
Super Middleweight - 43 votes (45%)
Middleweight - 19 votes (20%)
Welterweight - 2 votes (2%)
Lightweight - 23 votes (24%)
Super Bantamweight - 4 votes (4%)
Other - 2 votes (2%)

Be interesting to see if there's any change of opinion almost 18 months on.

We have some good fighters in each division but the depth of competition in the lightweight division here at the moment looks to be the better weight. The Super Middle and Middleweight divisions have diminished slightly with Frochs inactivity and possible retirement along with Barker hanging up the gloves and Macklin suffering a bad KO. Same with the Super Bantam division with Kid Galahads suspension kicking in. If MCDonnell were to jump up a weight and Galahad was still active you could make an arguement for that division with 4 world level guys all from Britain. We have decent heavyweights but they all seem to be at different stages at the moment. At Welter we really only have Brook and Khan who are legitimate contenders at the moment. Hopefully they two fight later in the year!

Lightweight seems the pick of the bunch and it's helped by the fact there depth across the board. A number of good world class guys, a number of interesting domestic guys and a few good prospect types.
