the fact the ref had to help him to stay on his feet, and his eyes were gone, tell me he was in queer land and did not quit.

some people just prefer to label him a quitter without really knowing.
The way I saw it was, Daniel is back on his feet at approx 4. The ref continues the count to 8, he then instructs Daniel " come to me ''. He repeats twice more " come to me ''. On the third request by the ref Daniel shakes his head. The Ref has no option fight over.
Was Daniel shaking his head in the universal sign of NO because he was pissed off, maybe.
I believe Daniel was concussed and had no idea what was going on. Glad the ref stopped it. It would have got ugly.

It's astonishing really, what if Mayweather did the same thing as Geale did in the GGG fight and shake his head and refs stops his fight against Mosley , i guarantee all these Aussie posters would be ridiculing Mayweather calling him a quitter etc.

Heaven forbid an Aussie Golden boy quits

A fighter who has just been smashed by a big puncher like GGG, struggles to his feet and is noticeably disoriented is a soft target for armchair experts. It was inconclusive what Geale was thinking and how many referees he was seeing during that 5 seconds or so the referee had to assess him and adjudicate the fight should be stopped.

The facts are that Golovkin dropped him with a solid shot. Geale gets to his feet. The referee checks on him and asked Geale if he can continue. Geale shakes his head NO. They are the facts.

Looks like Geale was not 158lbs a month out from the fight.... Francis was right and the so called experts wrong.

“I wish it was true,” Geale says with a laugh before putting the rumors to bed, “I was well over 158.”

1. If Geale has no intention of continuing the bout, he stays down, gets counted out, fight over.
2. Geale is up at 4. Instinct and pride kick in. Clear indication he wants to continue.
AT NO POINT did the ref ask if Geale wanted to continue. Geale was asked to come forward to the ref so the ref could assess his condition.
He was asked three times to come forward to the ref. On the third time he shakes his head, ref interprets this as either; I can't continue or
I don't understand whats happening, Ref has no option, fight over. Good stoppage.
We all know what would have happened if the ref continues the fight. Even Geale knew, he offered no protest at the stoppage.
Concussion reactions are different. From my experience you struggle to comprehend what exactly just happened.
I believe Geale was heavily concussed and cannot be judged by his immediate reactions.

Very factual statement there. The way I saw it was he got to his feet, was shaking his head in frustration or and the ref stopped the bout. Either way the end was inevitable but dont for one minute call Geale a quitter. A quitter stays down for the ten count.

The "so called experts" are Fight Network, the source of the information:

WBC middleweight Champion Miguel Cotto (39-4-0, 32 KOs) fights Daniel Geale (31-3, 16 KOs), on June 6 in Brooklyn, New York.

The Champion was 164.8 lbs, while the title contender was 158 lib. The limit of the division is 160lib.

http://fightnetwork.com/news/55940:cott ... -weigh-in/

Funny how one minute your attitude is:
"Every boxer lies so i don't take notice of pre-fight interviews from anyone regardless if i like them or not."

Yet next minute you are quoting and believing a fighter in Geale:
“I wish it was true,” Geale says with a laugh before putting the rumors to bed, “I was well over 158.”

Yep they should NEVER doubt what Francis says. :TU:

Of course 158 a month before the fight was complete nonsense and some believed it. Unbelieveable.

Geale needs to put a clinic on as people have stated, and is conceivable if he is honestly still relevant.

Here's my take on his last 5 or so fights, and why his dropped a SD, and rounds in his wins when he shouldn't have.

He's fighting still toe to toe, and not moving and setting and breaking the rhythm of his opponent when he's thrown his 5 or 6 punch combo, and catching them when he moves and they trying to leave a receipt, this is where he use to break fighters down.

He needs to fight all 12 rounds, his last 5 fights are indicative of the fact he's taken every 3 or so rounds off allowing his opponent a chance to not only get back into the fight, but allowing a case for judges to score the round against him, nothing left in the tank is exactly the approach he needs to take, if in fact others are right.

Forget Germany here, This is the US, where he has no wins there as of yet, I believe he beat Barker, or at least Barker didn't take the title from him, but hey, i'm not claiming insurance, however Geale has himself to blame for letting it get that close and for not closing the fight out in the 6th. I also said Barker would without doubt not live up to champion standard and loss in his first defence, I was right.

How he beats Cotto: Setup punch's 5 or 6 combo's, and move, loading up when Cotto try's to close in and offer a reciet, and move again, offer no chance for cotto to hit him more than 10 times a round, which he has the footwork to do, and frustrate him for 8 rounds solid. Do what you will there after but there can be no rounds taken off and output moderate to heavy, with Geale using size difference for distance, agility and effective aggression.

Tend to agree this gif(3rd version)shows Geale reeling backwards into the ropes. He was probably disorientated and didn't know there was only 20 odd seconds left in the round.
