Goodwin Bill this Saturday at York Hall ; 4 Southern Area Title Fights
Hi Chaps,
Just thought I’d bring to your attention the Goodwin Bill on Saturday that I’ll be attending with a few buddies, one of whom occasionally trains with Ian Bailey who fights against Jamie Speight for the Southern Area featherweight title. As I understand, Ian Bailey is one of those hard luck fighters whose often taken fights at 48 hours notice. He’s fought the who’s who of the British featherweight/superbantamweight scene including Lee Selby, Josh Warrington (twice), Kid Galahad, Carl Frampton and Samir Mouneimne. In any case he’s definitely better than his record would suggest and is coming off a career best win again the previously undefeated Ryan Doyle. A win here could put him in the mix for a British title shot. There are three other Southern Area title fights on the bill and all in all looks to be a cracking night of boxing with each of the title fights looking to be very well matched, 50/50 type fights on paper:

If anyone is already going or fancies coming along just give me a shout; it would be great to meet some fellow boxrecers.

Looks a really good card that proper Area title well matched local fights.
We've got a similar type show in the Midlands in a few weeks (Wolverhampton Civic Hall June 6th) that too has 4 area title fights on.
Thankfully as our major/tv promoters seem to be increasingly letting us down with mismatches the small hall scene seems to be going in the other direction

Nice; I'd consider heading up to Brum for that one but it's my best mate's birthday that day so out for that. It's not that hard to make well matched 50/50 fights and not that expensive either: but sadly certain TV promoters keep feeding us shite 90/10 matches (if we're lucky!).
Yeah it's a shame it's not on fight pass - I'll update after the event and let you know how the fights went.

Hey mate, I know I could look it up but as you are going and online I thought I'd ask, how much are the tickets for the balcony?black panther wrote:ste1983 wrote:Looks a really good card that proper Area title well matched local fights.

Ah nice mate. Tickets are £35.00 - unreserved so if we get there early we should be able to get to the balcony I think.
Ashamedly I've never been to the York Hall - been meaning to go many times but mates always pull out and didn't fancy going on my own.
Just drop me a message if you're up for it and I'll get you tickets direct from Ian so will save you a fiver or so for the booking fee online

Great show this,
Was at the weigh in yesterday, this type of show should be televised.
So much more evenly matched than last weeks matchroom card.
Anyone there like to give updates please.

I'm sure some of the Goodwin bills have been on allegedly before, I'm a fan of how the Goodwin's go about things, more power to them.

Just got back. Danny Cassius Connor got a win on cuts - would be nice to see put some wins together. Dingsdale boxed Devines head off had him hitting air all night - won comfortably. Johnny Coyle remains undefeated winning the Southern area light welterweight title. Was rocked in for first by a counter right hook from his fellow southpaw opponent but after that pulled away with his aggression, workrate and punches in bunches. Ian Bailey was robbed IMO losing 96-95 (referee card) to Jamie Speight. Bailey coming forward all night and landed some meaty right hands throughout the bout that had the crowd gasping. Speight covered a lot of ground and was popping his jab all night but was often falling short. Didn't land many clean punches on Bailey. Gutted for Ian but it is what it is. After the fight some people started throwing stuff into the ring after the decision was announced.
